Reading about the Bronze Age Collapse on wikipedia and it's wild to me to imagine living somewhere with as much widely known history as the Mediterranean or the Near East. I hope I live to see a version of the USA and Canada that care on an institutional level about the history of the natives and first nations. Why do white people here not care about the history of the land before we lived here (I know the answer is whiteness as a construct is built on not caring about that stuff but like. man.)
You already know the story. You will die. Everyone you love will also die. You will lose them forever. You will be sad and angry. You will weep. You will bargain. You will make demands. You will beg. You will pray. It will make no difference. Nothing you can do will bring them back. You know this, Your knowing changes nothing. This poem will make you understand this unfathomable truth again and again, as if for the very first time.
This episode is a genuinely moving and evocative character peice about the struggles of family and grief but some keeps splicing in a different episode about how its okay to appropriate other cultures if you have a good enough reason.
Lets get the lousy one out of the way. Garibaldi's friend is here to engage in some blood sport for purely selfish reasons.
And like, I think (hope) they're purposefully playing up how bigoted he, so the ending of this arc cam show growth. And like, I guess he stops call them slurs, and seems to respect their culture, but he still gets what he came for: fame and fortune through the exploitation of a foreign culture.
They don't want him there, but he forces his way in anyway.
Like, damn, even Garibaldi knows its fucked up.
Lmao, I know this is just pg "go fuck yourself" but this line kills me. Anyway he exploits a loophole to get let into the fight, and then we fill a quarter of the episode with
Its not fun, it makes me cringe, he gets everything he wanted. Its bad
It frankly even worse when you realize the show is gonna keep cutting back to it from its other plot: IVANOVA GREIVING HER DEAD FATHER
So, lets get this part out of the way: I am not jewish. I don't really know if this is a good portrayal or not, but it seems like its intentions are good. The constant explanation of the jewish traditions at play here make me feel like they were trying to be educational to the ignorant 90's american. And as an outsider, it still worked on me. It made me feel feelings. Those feelings would be immediately cut short when we go back to the super punch out story, lol, but this half of the episode worked.
Susan is running from her feelings. You can see it on her wheneveit comes up. She hides behind her duty. Doesn't tell anyone and hopes they fade away.
Its SAD. It makes me choke up a bit writing this up even.
I often find this sort of conflict forced. But idk, this one is entirely understandable. I would be mad too if someone aired out my troubles with my boss. AND I understand the desire to help someone inspite of themselves.
Eventually she cannot run anymore. The memories overtop their dam and she finally has to process them
My plan for today (now that I’ve finally gotten up) is to read and then go to the grocery store for things for a big dinner, and then cook and eat a big dinner. And then hopefully that will give me the strength to write this evening.

The whole metaverse can no longer be properly viewed without an account and I am definitely not making one just to see your contact info or opening hours.
Get a fucking WEBSITE. It can be just a static landing page with the relevant information. But get off the metaverse!
