The Difference Engine Initiative was comprised of two six-week game jams for first-time women developers. The ripple effect of the DEI has been extraordinary, with participants pursuing careers in game development, creating new community initiatives, and making more games. While some of these successes can be considered under the rubric of “Women in Games,” more have been due to the talent and dedication of the participants, the excitement generated by their games, and their leadership skills. The women of the Difference Engine continue to make awesome things happen.

I first noticed the bird motif on the pro-ana sites. Girls described wanting to have bird bones, to be feather thin, ‘become frail’, to be light as air, be delicate, small, like a shimmering, (starving) sparrow.

Yes, I will certainly watch this. Absolutely.
Forget the pleasant grove that’s supposed to receive Euridice’s corpse in the first scene: This show opened on a desolate beach, with a parade of mourners that resembled a Sicilian funeral procession, moving in silhouette across a pale and flattened horizon. But saying what it looked like can’t convey the combined force of the scene, the solemn opening chorus, and the contrast between the contained enactment of ritual and Orfeo’s violent display of grief. The whole show was like that, each element reinforcing the others, prodding you to hear something in a new way or to understand what words and music were getting at all along. This is why we go to music theatre; this is why it exists.
