An act of kindness is what you showed to me It caught me by surprise in this town of glass and ice
Christopher and Grace from The Last Hours by @cassandraclare
Shadowhunter Families: The Carstairs
If you have the soul of a warrior, you are a warrior. All those other things, they are the glass that contains the lamp, but you are the light inside.
- Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare

"You are never going to be able to drink casually. Alcohol will always mean something to you that it does not mean to other people. Getting rid of this stuff will make it easier. Why not have it be easier?"
Matthew hesitated a moment, and Thomas knew him well enough to read the look in his eyes: Because I do not deserve to have it be easy, because the suffering is part of the punishment.

STOPPPP IM NOT MENTALLY WELL ENOUGH FOR THIS
i don't know why, but charles calling christopher "little kit" is what finally broke me.
Grace & Christopherπ
There was Christopher Lightwood, of course. Not that he loved her; he barely knew her. But he had seemed legitimately interested in her, in her thoughts, her opinions, her feelings. If things had been different, he could have been her friend.
He smiled, that kind smile that lit up his unusually colored eyes. Christopher was not handsome in an ordinary way, and Grace knew perfectly well that there were plenty of people, her mother included, who would have thought him not attractive at all. But Grace had known handsome men in abundance, and she knew outward beauty did not ensure kindness, or cleverness, or any kind of a good heart.
Graceβs anxiety had quickly faded as soon as she saw the pages, covered in Christopherβs unreadable scrawl. Now she found she was smiling a bit, even.
Grace felt a smile spread over her face. Probably the first time sheβd really smiled sinceβwell, since the last time sheβd seen Christopher. βChristopher Lightwood,β she said, βthere is absolutely nothing I would like to do more.β
There was a feeling in Graceβs stomach that she didnβt recognize, a sort of fizziness like champagne itself. βYou are a very strange boy.β
βAm I?β said Christopher, sounding legitimately surprised.
βYou are,β said Grace. βYou turn out to be very sensitive, for a scientist.β
βChristopher,β she breathed.
He looked at her, worry plain on his face. βAre you all right?β
Itβs nothing, she wanted to say. She wanted to force a smile, not to burden him, for she knew men did not like to be burdened by women. Her mother had told her.
But she could not make the smile come. This was Christopher, with his blunt honesty and kind smile. Christopher would know she was lying.
Grace felt tears burn against the backs of her eyes. βHow are you so wise? Not about science, or magic, I mean. About people.β
At that, he did smile. βI am a Lightwood. We are a complicated family. Someday I shall tell you all about it.β He reached a hand through the bars, and Grace, relieved beyond measure that there might be a someday, took hold of his hand. It was gentle and warm in her own, scarred by acid and ichor, but perfect.
She lifted her hands, as if she could ward something off, something terrible and invisible. Christopher caught at her wrist as Jesseβs jacket slid to the floor. To Lucieβs surprise, his touch seemed to calm Grace. She leaned toward himβit seemed instinctive, unconsciousβand said, βShe ripped the power out of me. Not with her own hands. She had some kind of creature with her, some kind of demon.β
Grace was kneeling at the top of the steps, shivering, her arms wrapped around herself. Lucie thought that she was looking at Christopher, but she couldnβt be sure.
Grace knew he was trying to give her a moment to gather herself, but she could only scrub tiredly at her aching eyes: Jesse wasnβt the problem. The problem was Christopher. She needed Christopher.
βI thought,β she whispered, βghosts could only return if they had unfinished business. Are the fire-messages yours?β
βI think,β he said, βthat you are my unfinished business.β
βI knew you could do it.β She heard the smile in his voice. βAnd youβve invented ever-burning vellum. Splendid work, Grace.β
Something brushed against her temple, tucking her hair behind her ear. A ghostly touch, a goodbye. A moment later, she knew he was gone.
"If you are reading this, this is the first Fire-Message that has been sent with success. It has been written by Grace Blackthorn and invented by Christopher Lightwood."
Esme Hardcastle really said
Christopher Lightwood deserved better so in my family tree I am going to give him the life and legacy that was owed to himβ¦
We stan.
ββGrace felt a smile spread over her face. Probably the first time she really smiled since- well, since the last time sheβd seen Christopher. "Christopher Lightwood,β she said, βthere is absolutely nothing I would like to do more.βββ

ββDear Alastair, why are you so stupid and so frustrating, and why do I think about you all the time? Why do I have to think about you when I get up and when I go to sleep and when I brush my teeth and right now? Why did you kiss me in the Sanctuary if you didnβt want to be with me? Is it that you donβt want to tell anyone? Itβs very annoying. -Thomasββ
β -Chain of Thorns page 38
ββAlastair frowned at him. "That coat is huge on you,β he said. βYour neck must be absolutely freezing.β To Thomasβs surprise, Alastair drew off his own scarf and looped it around Thomasβs neck. βHere,β he said. βBorrow this. You can give it back to me the next time I see you.ββ
β - Chain of Thorns, page 129
""Alastair, I love youβbut you know thatβ"
[...]
"I didn't know itβI hoped, but I wasn't sureβ"
[...]
"Kheli asheghetam," Thomas whispered, and heard Alastair suck in his breath. "I love you. Let me love you.""
Best couple in this trilogy, I will take no criticism
ββBut James never walked away, no matter how sharp Matthewβs words had become. He could see, even now, the faint tremble in his hands, the hurt at the back of his eyes. More than anything he wanted to put his arms around Matthew, hug him tightly, tell him he was loved.ββ
β - James POV, Chain of Thorns, page 154
ββI thought if I was with Cordelia, I would not require the bottle. But it seems it was too late for that. The bottle requires me." "I require you more,β James said. βMath, let me help you.ββ
