Hi Cassie! I've been a huge fan of your books since I was a kid🦭 Very excited for TWP and currently rereading Sword Catcher just to make sure I remember everything before I start the second book!

So I've been curious lately, you said that a character from The Mortal Instruments dies in TWP. I'm curious about how you were feeling when you assassinated them🥲? After all, it's a baby of yours, did you feel sad?

I often feel sad when a character dies but sad isn't the same as regretful: I can feel sad but know it's still the right thing for the story. All the characters are my babies to some extent or another, that's true. I almost always feel bad when they die — not in the case of Tatiana or Horace or the like, clearly. I feel worse, though, for the characters they leave behind.

I do like the word assassination though, which implies I shot them from a rocky knoll as part of a CIA conspiracy plot. Possibly to stop them from talking. YOU NEVER KNOW.

Hi, Cassie. Since Tessa's ability is shape-shifting, could she simply turn into Will to remember the exact colour of his eyes by looking in the mirror, or would it be too painful for her?

I just don't think she imagines there would be any point. Forgetting the precise color of Will's eyes isn't about the color. It is about forgetting Will. She doesn't just forget his eye color, she forgets his laugh, and as time passes, she knows she will forget more.

It's like Will turning around to talk to Jem and realizing he isn't there. Eventually he'll stop doing that, and that stopping is also a loss, because it's the acceptance that Jem is gone. Tessa turning into Jem wouldn't help Will, and her turning into Will wouldn't help her.

The eye color is just a symbol. It's not the loss itself. Tessa's power might be able to reproduce Will's appearance, but it can't restore what she's actually mourning: the experience of living in a world where he is still there.

Was making edits for my favourite TSC characters which are TID side ones like Sophideon, Gabrily and randomly came with a realization.

Now that I think about it, aren't they the ones to put a little blame on for this Grace/ Jesse situation? So like you have this weird ass relative, that crazy sister of yours that lives in that place where drunk dudes and heroin addicts would probably hang out in, wears one single dress with blood of her late husband on it and tries to kill local dogs.

So this person proceeds to adopt a child. And you know that she already got one, you saw that kid and he looked pretty much like a cholera victim. Your family's friends say they don't allow their kids to go anywhere near that place.

And you just go: "Okay yeah... some people live differently, that's how it goes. God bless those kids I guess, sorry to them 🕯️🥀" I mean, couldn't they contact Clave or sth, there were probably some ways to prove that those conditions were not children friendly? I remember they did sth but I'd love them to put a little more effort 🪦
