Band Spotlight: ONE STEP AWAY

One Step Away is nominated for an international 2011 Independent Music Award for their Pop/Rock Album:  “For the Broken.”  Coming together in 2007, One Step Away started out competing in local battles of the bands, which they won regularly with their sunny, melodic rock.  They won the Boston Music Festival in 2008 and have appeared on dozens of TV and radio stations.  With passionate professionalism and studio-precision sound, One Step Away performances have a mesmerizing appeal as they mind-meld with their audiences. This past summer has found them on big stages far from their East Coast home including Universal Studios Hollywood and Whiskey A Go-Go in Los Angeles. One Step Away band members are also consummate song-writers.  They released their first EP of originals in late 2008, which sold out quickly to local audiences.  Their recently released full-length studio album, “For the Broken.” is jam-packed with radio-ready originals and gaining them rising national attention and awards. With songs currently on rotation on 125+ different radio stations across the country, “For the Broken” has already earned them a coveted spot in a recent edition of Alternative Press as an Unsigned Band of the Month and dozens of Featured Artist Spotlights, all categorizing One Step Away as the next Break Out Artist.

Band Spotlight: LIFE ON HOLD

Since February 2007, Life on Hold has caught the ear of kids and bookers alike with their catchy, genre-spanning sound and signature layered harmonies. Fusing pop melodies with aggressive rock music, this female-fronted band knows how to impress with their dead-on live performances and tireless work ethic. Having now played with a slew of national acts including We The Kings, Rookie of the Year and Permanent Me, a new EP in the works, and touring on a regular basis, Life on Hold is looking to spread their sound on a national basis.

Band Spotlight: THE MOTIVATED SEQUENCE

The Motivated Sequence wants to be the thunder in your heart and vibrations in your bones. Forming in late 2010, 6-piece indie pop band, TMS describes themselves sonically as the mid-point between Third Eye Blind and The Arcade Fire. Based primarily out of Boston, the group combines an energetic show with catchy tunes that connect with the audience on multiple levels. As the culmination of a variety of musical styles and influences, there is a little something in The Motivated Sequence for everyone.

Band Spotlight: SHINOBI NINJA

Last Saturday we played with Shinobi Ninja, an energetic group from Brooklyn whose music is a mash-up of hip hop, reggae, rock, and metal.  Their show was exciting and in your face, the six of them are truly experienced performers.  The band has their own app, a free video game fans can download right to their iPhone.  Currently, Shinobi Ninja is touring throughout the eastern U.S.

Band Spotlight: ANAMANAGUCHI

Last week we played with NYC chiptune band Anamanaguchi.  The 4 piece stands out among most bands we have performed with due to their unique sound using a Gameboy and Nintendo Entertainment System (NES).  The mix of 8-bit sounds and rock guitars created an energy the crowd loved. We started out the day with a FIERCE competition at Northeastern University's student center.  There were three rounds: 1. Danny vs. Damon (Table Tennis) 2. Eric & Tom vs. James & Pete (foosball) 3. Jay vs. Luke (Super Smash Bros. Brawl) There was some trash talking... ...actually there was a lot of trash talking.  And it didn't help that the NE Patriots were playing the NY Jets the very same day.  But unlike the Patriots, ATE accepts no defeat.

The show at T.T. The Bear's later that evening was unique and exciting.  We met a ton of new and interesting people.  Thanks to Anamanaguchi and everyone who came out and made it a sold out show!

ANOTHER YEAR GONE BY?

Recently, I've had a lot of time during recording to think over how far we've come in these two short years.  We've played about 25 shows over the fall season, each one memorable in its own way.  One of the best experiences we had was performing at CollegeFest 2010 at the Hynes Convention Center where we played with acts like Asher Roth and The Venetia Fair.  Here are a few photos from the event:

Boston is a great home for us, but we love traveling to places like Portland, Providence, Hartford, and New York City.  We're excited to continue exploring this region of the country and eventually move further out.
