And here's the obligatory Protest the Hero post. This band is pretty love/hate with a lot of people and I totally get it because I used to not be a fan either, but sometimes you just have to admit defeat. If you don't fuckin love the section starting at 1:25 you can go fall in a hole
"Genghis Khan is upon us, he slays his betrayers."
"DA DA DADA DA DA DA DADADA"
Red Hatchet by The Safety Fire.
I can never stop going back to this song, it's a lot to take in on the first listen or two but it's infinitely catchy once you're familiar with it. Saw these guys with Protest the Hero in Raleigh. I've become real fond of Protest lately but these guys were my favorite, their sound is clean and heavy, THEY'RE FUCKING PLAYING TELECASTERS?? Very cool. The heavy interlude with the clean guitar in the back starting around 3:10 is choice.
"Well if you don't believe in anything, believe in us."
Karnivool's latest album Asymmetry is the very definition of acquired taste, and that phrase has a negative connotation but I don't think it should be thought of in that way. I believe anything that is subtle enough to require attention to really understand is almost always more satisfying than that which reaches out at you on a first impression. This was a difficult album to understand, but once it clicks it's literally like seeing a new color. Almost all of the music we listen to is familiar in some aspect just because of our collective conscious and the beats and melodies we all share as a people, but this album could have been from a completely different planet from a completely different set of people, this album is truly coming from an angle I've never even imagined before. This song is one of my favorites from that album.
"Please try to understand there is no great plan, we have no idea what lies beyond our reach."
Gonna deck this shit out and start cranking out tunes for days~. Thought I'd start with a song that slightly changed my life a couple years back. I've never enjoyed the indie sound so much but this song hit me in the face with it. It's ethereal but human, out of this world but straight from the earth, it elevates and transcends but couldn't be more humble about it. A really great fucking song, one of my favorite songs. KILLER intro, beautifully catchy chorus while avoiding the 'HEY THIS IS THE CHORUS' feel, and what a cool video.
10/10
"In a word you were told that it'd fix your shaky home, and what got made was broken too."
Hey
