Ron decides to "accidentally" run into Hermione upon hearing she's engaged to Draco

Ron: Hermione! Wow, imagine seeing you here of all places.

Hermione clearly at a business dinner with colleagues: Hello Ronald, how are you?

Ron: Good, good...so I hear you're taking the plunge. That's...great. I just wish you'd have chosen a better ma-

Hermione: Listen, now is not the time for this, I'm busy.

Ron: sure, sure but I mean why did you choose Draco over me?

Hermione stands dragging Ron to out of the restaurant and says silencio after being sure no one saw them walk into an alley: Ronald Weasley! I was in the middle of a very important business meeting! This was extremely disrespectful, and you know exactly why I "chose" Draco over you. Unlike you he knew my worth, he didn't assume I was his, he pursued me as a man should have done. Where you were a coward and a moron he was brave and brooding. I am marrying Draco, you had your chance years back when we were in hogwarts.

Ron: I'm so sorr-

Hermione: No Ronald, you listen to me, I am marrying this man. I love him, and he loves me. You don't get to just sweep in when you realize someone else noticed me. I am not your back up plan, second choice, or even your friend.

Someone to love part 6

“A ball?….” Hermione found herself nervous now, she had never been one to be involved in fancy gatherings, let alone ever attend a ball. What if she embarrassed him, or worse herself? “Well, I…I mean to say….uhm…” Draco watched Hermione for a moment, “it’s not as though the ball is the end all be all of your social existence. Trust me, just last year Viktor Krum and his lot attended one of the balls we hold for charity, Krum got rip roaringly drunk and tried fighting every male who looked at his date for even a half of a second. Who knew he would be so crazed over Lavender Brown.”

Hermione smiled for a moment as Draco had rushed put his poor excuse as to why she shouldn’t be nervous. It was sweet of him to try making her calm about it, but she was still terrified.

She thought for a moment more and then nodding to herself, “you know, I think I will accompany you. If for no other reason than to fave my fear, plus I get to have you by side for the night and dress up like a princess? Yes, please.”

Draco chuckled slightly, he found Hermione to be surprising and charming, and he knew without a doubt he was going to fall helplessly and hopelessly in love with Miss Granger, no matter if he fought it or not and he had no plans of fighting it.

Children. They were teaching children. 

Rowena, Godric, Salazar; they tended to forget that. They saw young minds, young acolytes - eyes that would look up to them. Not innocence. Not childish wonder.

Toughen them, said Godric.

Make them smart, said Rowena.

And ambitious, above all, said Salazar.

But war and the real world; that was not where children belonged. Aye, they would belong one day, but it was not their part to turn them cruel, make them hard, make their eyes dart sideways always looking for ways to twist the world to further their own ends. They were to protect them. Shield them from the worst so that some good, some kindness would find its way into an ever darkening world. To give them weapons and teach them how to use them, but never tell them that those weapons were their only hope.

She’d seen in all the battles she’d rode out to just how dark the world could be. Was it not their duty to bring light into this world? To fight darkness with light; not with more darkness - with divisiveness and strife and hatred?

I will take them all, she said. 

I will protect the ones you will not. I will save them. I will give them a home. They will be the last rays of all that is good in this world. I will teach them kindness. I will teach them loyalty. I will teach them selflessness.

I will teach them how to be the backbone, the heart of this world. I will teach them how to stand steadfast, when all hope is lost. 

I will teach them how to be human, to be more than just one single word.

No, she knew, theirs would not be an easy path, or a glorious one. They would have no songs. No great tales in books. No laurels. No consolation, no thanks.

But they would be the reason why, when the darkness finally came, all of them in all their different colours would stand shoulder to shoulder and draw their wands as brothers in arms.

Not for achievements. Not for trophies. Not for power.

For goodness. For hope.

And when the time came for them to choose the words that would forever guide the children that would come to them, Helga smiled and engraved, upon a bronze plaque, these words:

Draco dormiens nunquam titillandus.

(But her students remembered a very different set of words. Hogwarts will always be there to welcome you home.)

When Helga Hufflepuff said “I will take the rest”, she was NOT saying, “Ugh, fine, give me the little shits you don’t want and I’ll see what I can do with em.” She was saying that not every child is particularly brave or ambitious or perceptive, and that is not bad.

If you were 11 years old and had just gotten your letter to Hogwarts and you got there and saw what was to be your home for seven years and met your new brothers and sisters, only to be turned around for not having a specific personality trait, how would you feel?

Think of something you are good at in the real world, be it writing or drawing or telling jokes or sports or what have you. Now imagine you are told that you can never do that thing again just because you aren’t particularly brave, ambitious, or perceptive.

Helga Hufflepuff believed, as I too believe, that there is good and great potential in every single person on this world, and everyone, EVERYONE, deserves a chance to show what they can do and to be taken seriously.

Helga Hufflepuff was not begrudgingly taking “The Rest”, she was lovingly, joyfully, enthusiastically holding out her arms in support and encouragement to anyone and everyone willing to accept.

That is why I am a Hufflepuff. Because EVERYONE deserves a chance to live up to their potential.

But this is the depth I think @ohtheclevernessofme1972 put in Helga… And that is why I am always so excited to see what she’s giving us next. I want to know what she thinks of the relationships between Helga and the other founders are. Helga gives her heart to her students. In a team of people you need traits of all four houses not just those who are great enough to fight battles but those with the hearts to know when the battle is not worth the casualties. Hufflepuff is the house of the kind and all around good. I always saw this house as that one that offered a home for those who were too many things to just be brave, smart, or cunning, they were all three.

Oh my lordy I am crying. There are literal tears falling. This is the MOST BEAUTIFUL thing I have EVER read. EVER.  @lettersfromtunie I can’t process how honored and grateful and pleasantly surprised I am that you tagged me in this. You made my entire life. 

This is Helga. This is what it means to be a Hufflepuff. This is why I am so in love with Helga Hufflepuff. She takes things that are dark, and cold, and turns them ever so slightly to see light, hope, and goodness. She is a force to be reckoned with. I cannot even describe the feelings I have right now.

Hermione pulled the necklace out of the box, her eyes wide.  “Wow…this is…wow.”  It was a long silver chain with an ornate key on the end.    

Draco rubbed the back of his neck.  “I know you don’t normally wear necklaces, but this one—“  

“It’s lovely, Draco.”

“Listen…Granger…it’s—“

She slipped the chain over her neck, the key hung down awkwardly on the front of her shirt.  “Um…the chain’s a little long…”

“It’s a key to my flat, Granger.  So you can come in when I’m not there…”  He reached over to tuck the chain down the front of her shirt.  It promptly disappeared.  “It’s charmed to be invisible if you cover it…”  He shrugged. “I know you don’t like jewelry.”  

She smiled, reaching down into her shirt to look at it again. “I’d have worn it, you know…”  

“I know.  That’s why I figured I’d stop you before you started faking in earnest.  Daft bint, you are, Granger.”    

“Well.  You’re with me, what does that say about you?”

“So…so many things,” he teased, leaning over to kiss her lips.

Hermione: “Sorry Cormac, I really am late!”

Draco: “Ah, Hippogriffs, fascinating creatures. Bit hard of hearing though, you really have to shout. I’ll tell you, McLaggen, just stand up straight, look it in the eye and tell the beast who’s boss. That’s all there is to it.”

Cormac: “Right, sounds like you know a thing or two about Hippogriffs. Thanks, mate.”

Draco: “Anytime!”

Draco: *storms up, snatches butterbeer, throws straws, chugs entire drink, slams empty mug, wipes mouth on sleeve, stares Cormac dead in the eye and leaves without a word*

Hermione: “Malfoy! What the- You struck him!”

Draco: [struggling against Filch] “Right, um.. that was for.. my father?”

Cormac: [clutching his nose] “What the bloody hell have I ever done to your father??”
