I’m convinced the cloak Merlin was wearing is one of Arthur’s old ceremonial ones. Arthur is the only knight who wears cloaks with a similar clasp, but only when not out on a mission. When out and about he wears the same cloak as the rest of the knights. The regular knights only have the one cloak design; even when at banquets their cloaks remain the same, Arthur’s is the only one that differs.
