I don’t usually post but I just wanted to say thank you to @danielhowell and @amazingphil for making this video. On the off chance they do read this, I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart for three main reasons:
First, politically, socially and culturally it has never been more precarious to come out in the last two decades. As Dan rightly pointed out that the fight has been so good that the world has skewed towards conservative and divisive politics. Right now, trans and queer people are facing so much violence and discrimination, systematically removed from the spaces we fought for. For facing this, and owning your truth, Dan and Phil, I am so grateful. What this means for queer people in entertainment but also beyond - I think we’ll only know with perspective. For now, I just want to say, thank you fighting the good fight, and being with us. For giving us courage and the hope that despite it all, we can still exist as we are.
Second, thanking for trusting us enough to share such an important and personal part of your lives. I grew up with you and watched you evolve into phenomenal entrepreneurs and entertainers. As I grew older I came to understand that I didn’t need to know everything and that the (parasocial) relationship we had built was more about comfort and shared community than anything else. I am so immensely proud that you were able to reach this point and reclaimed the very space that was taken from you. It took courage and I want you to know that we see that.
Third, and this follows from the two points above - your trust in us and the courage you have shown gives me hope. I am a queer POC and it’s difficult, so incredibly difficult to live by my truth everyday. I have to censor myself constantly…and I question my own authenticity because of it. But watching you grow to the point we are at today, marked by this video, has given me hope that I too could get there someday. I too could overcome the nightmares of being closeted, and being okay with the fact that coming out might not please everyone and there could be more questions than I am comfortable with, but it’s worth being yourself and loving the people who love you as you are.
In conclusion, thank you for being you and being with us all these years. We love you and are always, always rooting for you.
