The Spirit of Christmas.
This blog is about the need to somehow recapture the 'old' Christmas traditions that Britain used to follow.
Christmas for most ancient Britons was a Pagan affair. Druidic in ceremony and ritual. The Yule Log, Holly and Ivy etc were used in Pagan ceremonies and incorporated into the Christmas story so the two became intertwined.
Personally, i like the idea of both, for they both celebrate something special, the promise of man's at one-ness with nature and God (the gods etc).
They both celebrate a time of being with family and the giving of thanks for new life and the seasons to come but also sharing presents with family....a 'true' sharing, not the crass commercialism of today.
I like the idea of bringing nature into the home, of respecting it, because in the physical body, we are inextricably linked to it, until death of course, when we are released and the elements that made up our physical form return to the Earth from whence they came.
At this time, we owe a debt of gratitude to God for the coming of the Christ child, someone who will guide the way for us, show us a better model of communal living which involves community spirit, family, sharing, enjoying the simple pleasures of life, having compassion and love, tolerance and respect, being a supporter of equality and fairness in this often corrupt, harsh world.
I think today we have lost both the Paganistic and Christian elements of Christmas time and that is a shame for all future generations of people in the UK.
We've allowed the fictitious Coca Cola Santa (a corruption of Saint Nicholas) and rampant comercialism to blight our lives and turn what should be a relaxing time with family and friends into a mad, manic rush with the attendant pressures and instead of a joyful time, wives and mothers are stressed as are so many others because of Capitalism rulling Christmas.
It's time to take Christmas/Yuletime back and reclaim the preciousness it once had whereby we can look backwards over the year and reflect on it and at once look forward to the future year also with joyous anticipation.
Money Talks
I just watched a television programme on the rich and famous called 'Posh Life' which featured the prestigious magazine TATLER which has been chronicling the rich since 1901.
What is interesting, but sad, is the not so surprising attitude of the privileged classes. One can almost smell the air of insoucient superiority it's so evidently tangible in this programme.
This overweening mind funk that because one has money and land, one is somehow superior to other people...is a terrible indictment of man's tendency towards arrogance, conceit and pride.
Silver Spoon Superiority
The thing i found most disheartening, was the inculcated brainwashing of children who come through the boarding school system thinking that because they went to some fancy-schmancy public school they are in effect 'Homo Superior.'
One young girl, on going to her first Tatler ball/dance, remarked on the safety aspect of not having to meet the wrong sort of boy/person there, implying that there would only be her 'class' of people in attendence.
This attitude lingered on right throughout the programme as the Tatler-ites talked at length about how spiffingly good life was for them growing up with privilege. No worrying about crime, drugs, violence, or money problems for them, brought up in their little unreal bubble world.
What was patently evident was that seemingly above all else, they all had one thing in common...the worship of mammon! Everything was all about the right family, education, class, status and how much money you have....and they positively revel in it!
Barbarians at the Door...The Plebs Are Among Us!
One elderly gentleman toff remarked philosophically yet sadly that in the old days, the upper classes only rubbed shoulders with their own kind and nowadays...shock, horror...they have to contend with the nouveau riche and the self made man who presumably doesn't know a fish knife from a Bull's foot and who probably couldn't spell etiquette, but knows how to make a pile of money!
So nowadays, the top crust of the societal pie is an amalgam of old money and privileged classes, self made millionaires/billionaires, pop and film stars and wealthy industrialists.
The social demographic may have changed, but the goal of earning and amassing more and more of the green stuff never does.
Vulgar Ostentation
One Tatler-ite engaged in running of the magazine, commented on how some of her clients can just walk in off the street to some jewellery store and purchase the most expensive watches costing up to £100.000 plus!
How nice for them eh? Considering most people, not just in the UK, but around the globe are working in jobs that have them doing all the hours under the sun, have zero hour contracts and pay very little in return for their hard labour....I'm left with an extremely 'sour' taste in my mouth at these vain, shallow people who barely can be classed as 'human' beings. I think it's time for a class revolution again! Enjoy your cake Marie Antionette...it may just be your last!

Celebrities, Who Gives a Hoot?
I've just seen an article, like so many others of its ilk, on hyping up a singer, who...shock, horror...went on stage in her underwear because allegedly, her stage-clothes 'didn't turn up.'
Now pardon me for being somewhat dense, but surely the singer in question had other ordinary clothes for everyday wear? (I'm just pandering to this nonsense here for a moment).
WHO GIVES A HOOT....REALLY?
Do the Hollywood Hypesters really think people are so stupid they'll actually believe that? Who knows? Maybe some people DO! I suppose that's why women's gossip magazines do a roaring trade. They want to know what new nail/lip gloss some celeb is sporting or how a new hairdo and image will shock the fans of 'X' celebrity.
Personally, I don't give a hoot, nor do I give any creedence to these coffee-froth stories which only serve to show how vacuous some members of the public are who get their kicks vicariously through totally manufactured, boring celebs.
SEX STILL SELLS
Since the dawn of advertising, sex has been a great seller, everything from dishwashing liquid to fast cars, to fashion items ad nauseum! How many times do we see the slinky or curvacous models sensuously and slowly strutting across our screens every day?
CELEBRITY SELLS
Every day of every week of every month of every year and not just at Christmas, we see celebs advertising products that they probably or most definitely, never use. I mean let's face it....Peter Andre would never be seen dead in Iceland....let alone buy their cheap frozen produce. Take Myleene Klass, would she be a Littlewoods shopper? You're more likely to bump into these two in the more prestigious and expensive Harrods store.
Then there's every woman's heart throb, poor old George Clooney, who advertises Nespresso coffee but never actually gets to drink any of the frothy brown stuff. Do we really believe that he has a preference? I dunno, perhaps he does.
The Emperor's New Clothes
Which brings me rather nicely to my original point in question...do we really give a hoot about what these celebs are up to and do we really buy into the hype that surrounds them? I'll leave you to answer that. I for one am not commenting on the Emperor's new clothes!

THE iNVISIBLE MUSICIAN
For the DIY muso. ..getting ur music 'out there' is a tough slog. Marketers and promoters keep telling us we should use social media more often but contrary to what they say all you're still just flinging mud at the wall and hoping some of it sticks! The question is...how many social media sites do you join and how much time do you spend doing it? I personally feel its tough becoz it seems that everyone and their granny is on either fb or twitter and you can't seem to build up any proper relationships. ..Instead everyone (myself included) just goes on and does their own thing Its like standing in the middle of a concert with everybody screaming at the top of their voice. How can possibly hope to be heard among that kind of volume? This is where (I hate to admit) the publicity infrastructure of a record label comes in handy. The only other way that I can see is to do some 'saturation bombing' of media sites and radio stations as well as indy mags whereby your face and nusuc are always out there. Eventually somebody influential is bound to notice you then! Until then you are pretty much 'invisible'. Of course we all know there are really lots of things you can do such as plain old asking for favours from fans or followers or media pundits. The one thing the DIY muso cannot do is become complacent . So what are you waiting for. ..go for it.
Justin Duarte - The Destruction of an Innocent mind
So I did a short little song on my guitar today with my Line 6 Audio Interface. It’s all done with clean acoustic guitar settings. It’s interpretive so make whatever you want out of it and the title. I found that writing music is a decent way for me to vent. So there you go.
I literally took that picture 15 minutes ago and did a pretentious little black and white thing with upped contrast and a vignette.
Anyway I hope you all enjoy this.
Nice little musical doodle that plays around three then four central notes. I love the way it meanders like a stream and the ephemeral melody almost struggles to be born. I luv it!
