Fuckkkkkkkk aloe lore. now.
Aloe’s main abilities stem from being around, near, or in, other dimensions. You’d understand this to be a lower narrative stack (Recommend reading: Narrative Stack, 2024). Due to sticking around them so often, her body accustomed to, and this a merely a shorthand, ‘magic’ and now she can do two things:
1) Portals. This is the main one she talks to people about. Aloe’s world shouldn’t have magic in it, but in areas with more… I guess, belief? Imagination?? It’s hard to actually describe without going too in-depth, but in areas that leak out with magic or have the possibility to do so, she can run her fingers along it and tear a portal through them. This, to her, feels similarly to running your finger across the top of a book and opening it perfectly to the exact page you wanted.
Aloe can only, and specifically only, open portals to places she remembers the spatial location of. It’s the same way you can close your eyes in your bedroom and not bump into anything, but can’t do the same in a random KFC despite knowing how the interior looks like from every angle. Due to this, there’s only a limited selection of places she can use this:
Her house (Often lands on top of her bed)
The Abyss (From Lavender’s HK, because it’s the only memorable place that isn’t densely populated by civilians)
Behind a PokeCenter in Hammerlocke (From Rose’s Galar, for health and checkup reasons)
The Void, which is a place I haven’t introduced yet. It’s the empty white landscape type of void. In a nutshell, it was an empty plot that her boss purchased so that everyone in the company could physically meet, which ended up becoming a pit stop and small business area for dimension travelers who work or are affiliated with that company. (There’s a giant fucking portal in the middle that’s too memorable to forget)
Another, different white void that Aloe’s renting a small area of so she can safely store her belongings and work items. It has no running water or electricity because it’s the fucking void, but she did install a giant bed, so that has to count for something. Aloe installed a glass box of snow in it so that if need be, she can fall a great distance into without dying. This has been more often used to trap annoying people into instead.
Her relative’s house in another country, so that she doesn’t have to buy plane tickets each time she wants to buy snacks. What, my country doesn’t that much variety or authentic asian snacks, okay?
It should also be said that Aloe would much rather use regular transport (e.g. Busses, Planes) than open a portal, because, in her words, it “funds the economy” and “is fun to go on”. Though, she has used her portals to get to school on days she slept though her alarms…
2) Illusions! Well, not entirely…? She calls it that, but it’s more along the lines of “Affecting senses based based on things that aren’t there”, so I guess it’s more accurate to say ‘Sensory Hallucinations’ instead…? Yeah. That sounds worse, actually. (Recommended viewing: Danny Phantom exe, 2025)
Aloe only really uses this the same way an illusionist would use their powers, so she sees no reason to call it anything other than that. Only difference is, she can manipulate (to some degree) all senses. Not that she’d good at all of them, or anything. Here’s a list:
Vision: The one she uses the most. Aloe actually has quite a few scars from the stupid things she’s done over the years, but doesn’t realize it because she only visualizes herself without them, and unknowingly uses a light amount illusion magic wherever there’s skin shown.
Smell: She doesn’t use this one because she doesn’t know where or how to start using this. If she tried she could do it but she doesn’t see a use for it at all
Touch: Second favourite, and the second most hated one. Good for, what she calls, ‘Ants’ (That feeling when you’re like 50% sure there’s an ant crawling up your leg and then you realize you were standing next to an ant nest, and now you’re panicking because you’re entirely sure all the ants are up your leg. Good for distracting people), and bad for ‘Ants 2.0’ (When you actually have an ant and you go ‘Fuckkkk I can feel ants all over my body now’ even though it was like one ant and you already got rid of it)
Taste: Also doesn’t use this one. Unfortunately makes her experience spiciness twice as long sometimes. (Her brain kind of goes ‘Hey remember what it felt like? When it was fucking spicy? What if we replayed that’)
Hearing: Specifically only good for if she spots someone across a room and wants to get their attention, or cheap telepathy.
Balance: She tried once, but it’s too hard to learn in a single day, and gave up since she has other methods (e.g. ‘Ants’)
She sometimes does this subconsciously, so she uses a small pendant (Modified as an earring) that limits and halts her capacity for magic. Yes yes ‘Oooh it’s a limiter’ or whatever, it’s more akin to one of those stim chew toys so she doesn’t do anything stupid. Using her magic continuously obviously “drains mana”, in gamer terms, so this also prevents her from being that and being freaking tired all the time.
She doesn’t tell people about this one often, because it makes her seem more mysterious or something. I think. One main drawback is that, because she ‘summons’ it by forcing herself (and select peoples within an area) that it ‘exists’, she too is actually susceptible to her own illusions. This is why her earring (that she keeps forgetting to wear, damnit) is so important - it helps her keep track of what she’s cast. She also limits her visual illusions to be purely visual, and not have any false weight (like you know, when you pick up a large box with a lot of strength, but it was actually empty and very light) in it or else she’d be so fucked.
Since Aloe typically uses (and ended up refining!!) these powers in her own world, you know, EARTH. where there’s not much magic abundance at all, she has become accustomed to this limitation and uses magic in the most simplistic form to cut down on ‘energy’ usage for it. In short, delete 80% of the software bloat, and is now usable in some of the most barren places. Have fun struggling on how to spark a fire as a pyromancer, I’m outta here, suckers.
You know what. I can elaborate on this. Magic in most worlds are like 99% style points, and schools that teach you a particular way usually have it made a certain way so it can be cast in a more legally distinct fashion. Aloe, who bullshitted this together on her own over the course of 2 years realised all you need for a portal are two things: Where you are, and where you want to go. who cares about what the portal looks like, just leave it blank unless you have the energy to waste and maintain it. I have more opinions like these but that will be another day.
Due to the fact that that she can only summon portals that she knows the exact place to,her only other way of accessing other dimensions are by naturally made portals (the thing that keeps her role going) and the company dimension gun (not called that) (it would has been scissors but their sister company stole it first).
This ‘dimension gun’ (actually a box) works by analyzing a user’s… I guess, DNA? Close enough wording, whatever. It analyses that and picks the exact dimension and AU the user is from, loads it with coordinates, and opens a portal above / next to it so the user can walk though and return home. What Aloe did, however, is copy down the coordinates of certain places, and coded a thing that injects the coordinates she’s pre-saved so she can go wherever she wants. Unfortunately, she’s a really good company asset and they can’t quite do anything about it.
And that’s my rambling session. Good luck reading all that motherfuckers
