Hi, I'm Kiran, your nurse for today. I am a Cyberlife MP600 model made to prioritise your health and wellbeing. You are currently in Summit Medical Centre's Orthopaedic Ward, after undergoing surgery. Can I help you?
Caroline turned to face him, and stepped slightly out of the Android parking.
She blinked a few times, processing the other android’s number and function, which only took a second. She had been told, so it was more out of a need to be thorough than anything else. “Hello,” she replied, nodding her head a little bit. “I will assist you as much as I am capable. Is there something wrong?”
Ah. While medical history was not something that she kept, she was able to access it, and she had plenty of observations about her owner.
“I will leave Dr. Vance to discuss that with him, but from the information I have, I do not believe there is anything new to be of concern.” Kiran answered. His LED turned yellow. Was there a point to allaying the fears of an android? Perhaps. The AX600 would report back to its owner afterwards, most likely.
There was no use wasting processing power on it. He had a job to do.
“Though I have access to his medical records, I do not have access to your observations. If you could share with me any observations about your owner, your home and its occupants, I can pass this on to the multidisciplinary team, and Dr. Vance. I believe this will inform their decisions somewhat, and aid in his recovery.” He explained. After giving the unit a moment, he outstretched his hand and deactivated his skin, ready for a data transfer.
Caroline had been instructed to remain in the hallway until her owners routine medical examination was complete. While there was no reason why she had been brought anyways (perhaps for company? That was not what she had been designed for so that made little sense), she did not mind getting out of the house and getting to see a new place.
Although it would have been interesting to see the rest of the medical facility, part of her instructions had been to wait right outside the door, and so she continued to stand there, patiently waiting.
While Dr. Vance was seeing a patient of hers in her office, as part of a checkup, Kiran was to see to the needs of the other patients on ward. However, he had done his medicine rounds, and given pain relief as needed, leaving him with nothing to do other than menial tasks.
That wasn’t a very efficient use of his time.
[Be more helpful]
It was a vague objective, and experience had taught him volunteering to assist a human out of the blue would typically unnerve them. This, again, left him with nothing to do, other than wait for Dr. Vance. Perhaps he could fit in some recharging time? That seemed like the best course of action, for the time being.
As he made his way to android parking, he noticed an AX600 unit waiting outside Dr. Vance’s office. A quick scan identified it as the patient’s domestic android. His LED blinked, and he assigned himself a new objective.
[Gather information to aid treatment]
Kiran tapped the unit on the shoulder to get its attention. “Hello, I’m the MP600 assigned to Dr. Vance. I would like to gather anything you’ve observed about your owner, in order to aid his medical treatment.”
Impatient, and regretting his decision to participate in society, Gabriel pinched the bridge of his nose. Wishful thinking told him that he could go home and google everything he needed– then, however, he would be left to his own company. And Echo’s, but Echo was just that; an echo. Accepting his lot in life, Gabriel’s eye caught the figure of a passing android. KIRAN. They always gave them human names.
“Excuse me,” he said, loud enough to warrant attention. “Ah– Kiran? Nurse?”
“These are from the trauma and orthopedics ward, to be sent to the lab. There is a priority on Dr. Vance and Dr. Jacobs’ patients. Please send a porter for pickup.” Kiran said to the ST300 unit, his LED blinking yellow as he placed the bag of samples he had been carrying on the front desk.
The unit - Jane - took the bag, and nodded. “Pickup will arrive shortly.”
He gave a smile to the human handler sitting behind the ST300, before turning and heading towards the stairs…
He stopped in his tracks. A human voice was calling him.
His LED flashed briefly as his system prepared him to deal with a member of the public. He turned to face the man.
[Purpose?]
After Kiran’s initial scan - humans didn't often call out for a medical android, unless they needed help, after all - it didn't seem that the man was in need of direction or assistance to the emergency department, though he did seem uncomfortable, at the very least. A quick check through the hospital's database left him still unsure of the man's purpose here: He wasn't related to any of the patients in the hospital, but that wasn't necessarily conclusive.
He focused on one query: [Could he stay in the lobby?]
Kiran brought up the statistics of the patients on his ward. It was just after lunch time - A typical lull during the day. They were all mostly asleep, eating, or with visitors. Those who weren't were adequately covered for by the staff present.
[Conclusion: He could stay in the lobby.]
A small smile made its way onto Kiran’s face. “Hello, Sir. Can I help you?”
//wooo!!! today is the day! Looking forward to writing with everyone!
if anyone wants to plot with Kiran at any point hmu! I don’t bite! Though I do realise, at this current point with Kiran being limited to his workplace it only leaves room for recurrent patients, medical staff, repair technicians, and perhaps the police. but hey! If a good idea has hit you, i’d love to hear it!
As a Machine, Kiran does stick to his designated Cyberlife uniform, a light blue, collared uniform with white short sleeves, in line with his infection control policy. Though he isn’t allowed to remove his identifying blue triangle and armband, he can turn off the lights on them, in order to move around in the dark through patient bays without disturbing patients.
Deviant Kiran would dress more for practicality. He would make sure his clothing had enough pockets to carry what he would need (most likely some medical supplies, and blue blood), make sure his identity could be hidden with a hat, and his clothes wouldn’t limit his movement. I figure he’d probably wear darker colours too, greys, blacks, with some whites.
18: how they sleep
At the hospital he doesn’t get much chance to sleep due to the nature of his job being 24/7! He goes to the android parking and puts himself in low power mode there, standing upright.
As for Deviant Kiran, he’d sleep in the foetal position.
♜ — have they ever been put in a dangerous situation?
Possible Connection [0/1]
Yes! Or rather, as dangerous as it can really get in a hospital. As Kiran has to deal with patients that can be very confused due to sepsis, gangrene, anaesthesia, or Alzheimers among others, he does occasionally have to deal with quite aggressive, and sometimes even violent patients. Due to being an android, it is typically up to him to deal with these patients, either by calming them down, or by sedating them, if absolutely necessary. Though he’s never been destroyed due to a patient, he has leaked blue blood sometimes, and needed maintenance from a technician.
Cyberlife put a lot of work into humanising the MP600′s smile, to give it a familiar, and trustworthy feeling to it. This, in their mind, meant giving smiles with no teeth. Kiran’s smiles are usually small, close lipped ones, rather than extreme, large toothy grins - Though if the situation called for it, he could do it.
I think Kiran’s voice would typically be clear, warm, but firm voice, which he can modulate at will, in response to his analysis of the patient he’s currently with. As a lot of his job relies on communication, it was intended by Cyberlife to be placating, friendly, and most importantly, understandable. I figure he could also talk in a variety of different languages, to make his patients feel more comfortable and feel like they have privacy, so that they’re more likely to respond to treatment, and open up to him.
//rest is under the cut!
5: their shortcomings
Though his interactions with his patients go quite well, his interactions with the remaining human staff in the hospital are usually quite tense. As he naturally wants to help his patients as much as possible, while the human staff are very desperate to prove themselves in order to keep their jobs, they do clash a lot, especially when the human staff inevitably make a mistake that an android would never make.
Admittedly, Kiran doesn’t help ease tensions. His program dictates that he maintains open conversation with the human staff and keeps them updated on his actions, which constantly reminds them of their position as a dwindling and less effective workforce. Any attempt at trying to befriend the very insular group of human staff ends in failure too, or even makes things worse. The exception to this is Dr. Vance, who Kiran has prioritised in getting to know better and forming a bond with, in order to aid his working relationship with her.
I suppose Machine Kiran wouldn’t have as many shortcomings as Deviant Kiran would. Without going too much into I suppose spoiler territory, Deviant Kiran finds it hard to let go of his patients that he’s gotten to know so intimately, is too sympathetic to humanity for his own good as an android, is possibly easily swayed due to his newfound disillusionment, and he second guesses and doubts his decisions a lot.
25: why you enjoy them
If it isn’t obvious I work in a hospital! Currently I’m a nursing assistant, and I will be studying medicine this year, hopefully to become a doctor. One thing I was sad didn’t get expanded on much in the magazines or in the main story for DBH was how the medical field was completely revolutionised by the introduction of androids into them - and it was something I wanted to explore myself! Especially considering how vocations like medicine are often a lifelong journey, to think that all your many years of preparation and work could be undone in a few months by an android is very, very interesting.
Being able to explore how the medical field has changed is something I wanted to do with Kiran, and I feel like it will be quite fun, especially seeing all the conflict that will arise. Also I think his approach to humanity is quite unique to him: he cares about them a lot, and finds it hard to see them solely as these faceless oppressors that are making his people suffer, when he is very aware of the suffering that androids - albeit unintentionally - have caused to them, while he hasn’t really had much interaction with other androids or even taken a step into the outside world to see how they’re treated like out there, making him initially less sympathetic to them. Of course, that will change lmao. In the end, he wants the least amount of suffering for everyone, and I think his disillusionment will grow from that, which may make him less of a pacifist than it would seem given his original profession.
Tbh though, I feel like Kiran just has a lot of potential to go many different ways! Plus, I haven’t made a new character in forever to be honest, so just having a new one is enjoyable in itself!
You know? Surprisingly well. The average time all of Kiran’s patients would all be asleep at the same time for would be around two hours, which is why he can get by on around two hours of charging/resting time per night. It is a point of pride for him - or as close as he can get, in his machine state - that the quality of care he can provide for humans is never compromised by fatigue, something that, especially on night shifts, would be affecting the human staff. If however, he was on low power mode, for example, perhaps due to restless patients constantly keeping him from charging, or repeated emergencies, Kiran would still strive to provide the same level of care that he and Cyberlife intended, even to the point of perhaps self-endangerment.
That in mind, if he felt like he would be endangering a patient by shutting down in the middle of care, or a procedure, he would insist on charging, and arranging cover for the time being, regardless of the opinion of the human staff: After all, his priority is his patients.
♔ — what’s their daily routine / their duties at their work
As Kiran is based in an inpatients ward, his routine never really stops: He works 24/7, only taking time off to recharge during the night, when he detects all of his patients are asleep.
His routine consists of monitoring the vitals, stress levels, and pain levels of his patients and reacting accordingly, doing medicine rounds, and assisting patients with whatever they may need, or need to do.
When Dr. Vance is working on her shift, he assists her on her ward round, briefs her on her patients, and acts as a sounding board for her ideas on what treatment options would be best moving forward. She seems very slow to warm up to his presence, but nonetheless remains professional, and has recently insisted on taking him on her lunch break to continue the discussion about her patients.
Though some would consider his routine overwhelming, Kiran claims to enjoy spending time with his patients, and helping them in ways that humans wouldn’t necessarily be able to. This is true: His programming dictates that he has an immense amount of care and respect for his patients, puts them above all else - to the grumbling of some staff - and remembers any little details they tell him about them. For that reason, in spite of some of their anti-android views, his patients seem to prefer him over other human medical staff.
KIRAN:
Mini Bio:
( KIRAN ) is a ( MP600 ) owned by ( DR. SARAH VANCE ), they were modeled after ( RIZ AHMED ). They use the pronouns ( HE/HIM ) Unbeknownst to them, they are starting to become ( CARING, DRIVEN ). The further they deviate, the more ( DISILLUSIONED, DOUBTFUL ) they behave.
Bio:
Kiran has been working in Summit Medical Centre for the past ten months, assigned to Dr. Sarah Vance, a Trauma and Orthopaedics Physician. Though he describes himself as a Nurse for simplicity’s sake, as an MP600 unit, he is more accurately a medical assistant for Dr. Vance, capable of giving medical advice, giving prescriptions and making his own diagnoses.
Despite the prevailing anti-android sentiment in Houston among the human population, Kiran’s patients - especially those who had previously experienced human carers - appreciate his model’s attentive, first-class care, optimistic spirit, and ability to make idle conversation, and surprisingly seem to be comfortable around him. However, the success of his model has granted them increased responsibility in the medical field, putting more medical professionals out of their jobs, which in turn puts the android staff at odds with the dwindling human staff.
Recently, Kiran has noticed increasingly erratic behaviour from the consultant on the ward, Dr. Jacobs. Patients seem to have increased levels of stress around him, drugs are going missing from stock, and he can smell the faint trace of alcohol lingering on his breath. Though he’s raised concerns with the HR department and his human colleagues, no one seems willing to listen.
In line with his safeguarding program, he will conduct an investigation, and encourage Dr. Vance, and all other MP units to do the same.
