Character designs for my upcoming book "Lockettopia: The Trojan War Cycle."
Sources vary on HELEN'S agency: in the Iliad, she goes with Paris under Aphrodite’s coercion, suggesting a choice shaped by divine compulsion rather than free will. The Cypria emphasizes abduction and Aphrodite’s spell, framing the event as a god-driven crime. In Helen, a tragedy by Euripides, the poet presents an alternative myth in which Hera creates a phantom (eidōlon) of Helen that Paris takes with him, while the real Helen is transported to Egypt.
Im all ears if you want to share your thoughts on ways to improve any of the character designs before i begin diving into illustrating the epic cycle.

In the Iliad, ODYSSEUS lies, spies, and kills efficiently, most notably during night raids and covert missions where mercy would endanger success. His heroism is inseparable from moral ambiguity, as survival and victory repeatedly justify calculated violence and deceit. I'll be highlighting these contradictory themes surrounding this character in my upcoming book.

In the Iliad, with Athena’s aid, DIOMEDES wounds Aphrodite and Ares in a single day, gains divine battle vision to recognize gods by their radiance, and fights wreathed in wildfire-like fury. After the war, Aphrodite’s resentment brings divine backlash, souring his homecoming and driving him into exile, where later traditions say he wanders west and founds cities in southern Italy.

AJAX THE LESSER commits a grave crime after Troy’s fall by dragging Cassandra from Athena’s temple and assaulting her, violating sacred asylum. Though he survives the war, Poseidon wrecks his ship, and Ajax is finally dashed to death on the rocks, punished for his arrogance and sacrilege.

In AJAX by Sophocles, Athena plays a decisive role by striking AJAX with madness after he plans to kill the Greek leaders for denying him Achilles’ armor. She mocks him by turning his rage against livestock instead of his enemies, and when AJAX regains clarity, the humiliation and loss of honor drive him to suicide, exposing the brutal power of the gods over mortal pride.
