Watch Sam get playing tips from the team
First of all, thank you to this Anon for sending such a thoughtful and beautifully written reflection.
This is one of those messages that manages to be respectful, calm and still very much on point. Many of the questions raised here are questions I find myself returning to as well because sometimes the development of things is difficult to understand from the outside.
If you have ever wondered why so many of us keep circling back to the same larger question — what exactly are we trying to understand about Sam, about the image, about the patterns, and perhaps also about ourselves — I really recommend reading this.
The text was originally written in Italian and has been translated into English. I am posting the English translation first simply because most readers here follow in English. The Italian original is included in the screenshots at the end for anyone who would like to read it in its original form.
Grazie di cuore, anon. Lo apprezzo molto. 💚🤍❤️

By Anon
Why are we so fascinated by Sam? A personal reflection.
I apologise if these topics have already been discussed before… I will try anyway.
I hope the translation stays as close as possible to the meaning I am trying to give to my thoughts.
I have often asked myself why I, and so many other people, feel so drawn to the figure of Sam. It is a question I keep returning to, because rationally I find it difficult to explain.
Yes, he is undoubtedly a fascinating man, but within the world of cinema and entertainment there are many actors who are just as attractive. He is certainly a good actor, although personally I have the impression that his talent emerges more strongly in theatre, where he can probably express his artistic training with greater freedom and depth. On screen, however, I sometimes feel I can detect a certain repetitiveness in his expression: when rewatching some of his older performances, I have had the feeling that he often returns to the same emotional registers.
Naturally, every actor has distinctive traits, but some are able to show a versatility which, in his case, I perceive less.
And it is precisely here that my question begins: what is it, then, that pushes us to follow him with such attention, almost with a sense of continuing fascination?
My personal impression is that, behind the public image, there may once have been a certain insecurity, perhaps compensated for over time by the enormous popularity that arrived almost suddenly. This, however, does not diminish his professional value: I simply believe he is a very good actor, without personally considering him an exceptional or particularly revolutionary performer.
There is also another aspect that strikes me.
Observing many other actors, I often notice relationships of friendship, collaboration and mutual respect that are also shared publicly: group interviews, moments of lightness, complicity between colleagues. In his case, however, I have the impression of seeing him more frequently alone, almost as though he preferred to maintain a more central and individual position. Naturally, this is only an external perception, and it may not reflect the reality of his personal or professional relationships at all.
His image as an extremely kind and available person is also something many people emphasise. I have no reason to doubt that; nevertheless, I wonder how much, in certain public contexts, kindness can also become part of the construction of a public persona, as happens with many famous people.
Another element that leaves me perplexed concerns his personal style. Not so much in terms of elegance, but rather in terms of personality. During official events he often appears impeccable, but it is also true that on those occasions he is followed by professionals, stylists and image consultants. Outside those contexts, however, I often have the impression of seeing a person with a very casual style, at times rather neglected, which I personally struggle to reconcile with the public image that has made him so iconic. I remember, for example, his appearance on a well-known British talk show, where he turned up in a vest: a choice which, from my point of view, felt rather jarring and not particularly elegant.
I understand the desire to highlight one’s physical appearance, but I have wondered whether behind certain communicative choices there may also be something else, something that goes beyond simple spontaneity.
The question of the tattoos has also made me reflect. I have absolutely nothing against tattoos in themselves; on the contrary, they can be a very meaningful form of personal expression. However, in his case, some aesthetic choices have seemed to me not very coherent with the image I had built of him over time. It is, of course, an entirely subjective perception, but I had the feeling of witnessing a sort of change that I struggle to understand, almost a return to expressive modes that I associate more with youthful impulsiveness than with established maturity.
And perhaps this is precisely the aspect that most intrigues me and, in a certain sense, saddens me. I always thought he had all the qualities to become an authentic artistic and human point of reference. For this reason, I wonder whether some choices simply come from a very independent character, not particularly inclined to listen to external advice, or whether behind them there are personal dynamics which, obviously, we as spectators cannot know.
Finally, I often reflect on the way he manages his private life. I do not enter into the merits of his personal relationships, because everyone has the right to love whom they wish and to live their emotional life as they see fit. What interests me, however, is the management of privacy. The history of entertainment is full of examples of extremely famous artists — from Meryl Streep to Julia Roberts and many others — who have managed to keep their private lives away from the spotlight for decades. This shows that, at least in part, it is still possible to choose a certain degree of discretion.
For this reason, I sometimes wonder whether, in his case, public visibility has also become a tool for keeping alive that enormous media interest and the peak of popularity he has reached in recent times.
Naturally, these are only personal reflections, impressions from a spectator and an observer. And perhaps this is exactly the most interesting point: not so much understanding who Sam really is, something probably none of us can know, but trying to understand why a public figure can provoke such strong emotional involvement in so many people. Perhaps, in the end, the most fascinating question is not about him, but about us: what do we see, or hope to see, in a person we actually know only through the filter of celebrity?
A further reflection concerns the way we perceive the relationships of public figures. To give an example, I think of Jamie Dornan: he is a very fascinating man, married and the father of three children, yet his private life has always appeared to be exposed with great discretion. His wife is an established artist, with her own professional and creative identity, and what emerges externally is the image of a balanced couple, made up of two people who seem to support each other while each maintaining their own space. I do not believe the public feels jealousy towards a reality of this kind; on the contrary, it often inspires sympathy and serenity.
This leads me to question why, instead, some other relationships between famous people generate such intense attention and, at times, so many discussions. I wonder whether this depends on the fact that, as external spectators, we perceive something less harmonious or simply more difficult to understand. Naturally, these are only perceptions, because none of us truly knows the private lives of the people involved. However, I believe that the way a couple presents itself publicly can greatly influence the public’s reaction.
I think again of the example of Jamie Dornan and his wife: both are artists, both have their own professional and creative dimension. She, in addition to music, also dedicates herself to other forms of expression and shares some aspects of her activity on social media with measure and authenticity. Perhaps it is precisely this combination of independence, simplicity and naturalness that leads many people to perceive certain couples as particularly balanced and credible.
And this is exactly what continues to make me reflect: I do not believe that the interest or discussions around other famous couples necessarily arise from envy or jealousy. Rather, it seems to me that they derive from the perhaps inevitable attempt to understand what we perceive from the outside and to give meaning to dynamics that, in reality, remain profoundly private and unknown.
In the end, once again, the most interesting question is not so much about them, but about us and the way we interpret the stories that public figures choose, voluntarily or not, to show the world.
And perhaps, at the end of all these reflections, analyses and questions, what I truly feel is neither anger nor disappointment, but a certain tenderness. Because beyond the public persona, the media strategies, the interpretations and the perceptions each of us may have, sometimes I find myself thinking that there is simply a person living through a very particular phase of his life and career.
I have a feeling — probably entirely subjective and perhaps completely wrong — that there is something fragile in all of this.
As though he were proceeding with great determination along a path that, to my eyes, appears full of risks. The image that comes to mind is of a ship moving forward with confidence, without noticing the obstacles on the horizon. It is only a feeling, naturally, and I sincerely hope I am wrong.
Because, beyond any artistic or personal judgement, I cannot feel hostility. On the contrary, perhaps I feel a kind of sorrow, almost concern, in seeing a person who, at least from what appears publicly, seems to be pursuing something that could prove more fragile and less lasting than it appears today.
And perhaps this is precisely the reason why I continue to wonder about him: not because I consider him perfect or extraordinary, but because, paradoxically, in his apparent contradictions, in his fragilities and in the choices I struggle to understand, I end up seeing something profoundly human.
And this, for better or worse, is perhaps what continues to hold my attention.
I hope I have been clear and that I have given you some calm food for conversation.
I would also like to compliment you on your compelling analyses; I have read them with great interest.
Someone vanished into thin air, at the Gallo-Way style 🏍️😵💫
The Canadian guest brought by SH to the Ride Galloway — a widow residing in Ireland—barely made it to Clatteringshaws, the first of three major designated stops along the Ride Galloway event's 130-mile coastal route alongside Loch Ken in the Galloway Forest Park. That in itself was a stellar achievement. At the second stop in Kirkcudbright, the "Artists' Town" on the Solway coast, she posed for a quick snap with the event photographer and a proper motorcyclist. Unfortunately, it seemed the latter failed to impart any authentic biker wisdom.
2nd stop
Unsurprisingly, she was nowhere to be seen at the third stop in the Isle of Whithorn, a picturesque coastal village on the Machars peninsula, and the guest subsequently vanished along with the motorcycle. After all, the route is rather brisk, even on a Beta Chinchilla. One supposes that being a novice on a demanding course isn't the most effective way to handle a rented motorcycle. She kept the HEDON helmet on—a Handcrafted luxury motorcycle helmet with carbon fibre shells & premium leather interiors, even colour-matching with some SH's ones.
Matching things up is SH's new trend. Sam’s "full house" look is, frankly, too much for everyday styling. Piling on matching tattoos and copper bracelets, rings, and a necklace all at once? It lacks a certain subtlety and, needless to say, class. Though class is something he never possessed anyway. It’s less a curiously chosen ensemble and more absolute chaos. Jewellery schmewerly, just make her a grilled cheese and call it a day.
The poor man thinks he’s hit the mark by copying the ideas of an unhinged person, a wildly erratic widow. What an absolute plonker; he’s convinced that a faded black thread on his arm is a true masterpiece. What will he do next— get her face tattooed?
Let this serve as a reminder that someone didn't make it to the end of today's Ride Galloway. After the second stop, she clearly disappeared; maybe still waiting for them 😂, but clearly her presence meant nothing special to those gathered at the Galloway Distillery. And, by the way... since we're on the subject! Someone who won't be remembered because everyone's already forgotten she was even at the Ride Galloway.
If SH’s first travel companion lacked the necessary skills and mindset for the adventure, inviting her was an utter waste of time for both parties. He decided to give it a go anyway, but with no real strategy, it proved to be a rather questionable choice—a point I had already made in a previous post.
After all, there is a world of difference between a leisurely stroll around a West Cork farm to admire the alpacas and setting off on a motorcycle trip abroad for the very first time. One must carefully vet a riding buddy, especially when the risk of them throwing in the towel halfway through is highly likely. Naturally, her lack of experience saw her straying onto terrain that vastly exceeded her capabilities, leaving poor SH in a spot of bother and looking more than a little foolish in the process
SH’s assessment wasn't terribly helpful, as usual. For a self-proclaimed motorcycle enthusiast, his grand attempt to help her meet other female riders—ostensibly to inspire her on the ride—resulted in nothing more than a few fresh photos and followers for her own account, not to mention ensuring the photographer in the photo captured her best angles at the event.
During the journey between the second and third stops, the SH guest disappeared; she was no longer with him, nor did she appear in any photos.
At least she noticed that, even with a marshal shadowing her the entire way, she still didn't manage to finish. While it might seem a bit superfluous, showing her off and introducing her to other adventurous female motorcyclists didn't quite yield the desired result, primarily because it didn't magically turn her into a real motorcyclist. There is a staggering variety of motorcycle gear out there—both practical and attractive—yet she didn't find a single thing that made the ride even remotely fun.
This is despite the fact she was riding the flagship model of Benda, brand her rented motorcycle. Given she is clearly a beginner, as was glaringly obvious, it was an awful lot of bike for her limited experience.
The proof is in the performance: This shows more about her beginner motorcycle posture she doesn't know how to start after a brief stop. For a safe motorcycle stop, motorcyclists place their left foot on the ground at a stop to keep their right foot on the rear brake. This standard riding technique—keeps the bike stable, illuminates the brake light, and leaves both hands free.
Ride Galloway - on the way out of the distillery
Look at her 👀, she is maintaining gripping two hands on the handlebars while hovering both feet off the ground (keeping them in the footpegs) while in gear at a brief stop which is highly discouraged by instructors and considered unsafe for a standard, two-wheeled motorcycle, (raises a question) She passed the motorcycle test or has a licence ?? 🧐 She cannot ride a motorcycle 🏍️ like she drive a car 🚗
The proper, universally recommended stopping technique prioritises the "power triangle" for stability and an emergency escape plan: 1. Left foot on the ground- This allows you to support the weight of the bike. 2. Right foot on the rear brake- This firmly secures the bike, keeps the brake light illuminated for drivers behind you, and allows you to hold the front brake with your hand, and 3. The bike in 1st gear.
But, Given her glaring lack of experience, naturally ignored all the universally recommended advice. This isn’t about playing to an audience, but merely about satisfying SH's own ego. He must be immensely proud of how easily he was taken in by the smooth talk of a widow who claims to know absolutely everything—and whom he, foolishly, believed. SH is entirely spineless; there is no point in him trying to lead a motorcycle group when he hasn't got a backbone.
Sam Retford with a Royal Enfield motorcycle
By the time the group reached the distillery, she was conspicuously absent from the arrival photos and videos. From the Isle of Whithorn, riding as part of SH's entourage, came Sam Retford, who finally made it to the distillery (the final stop). If SH’s guest cannot even complete the route, one wonders what she was doing there in the first place. She lacks skill, contributes absolutely nothing, and clearly requires constant supervision. How SH—who only passed his motorcycle test five years ago and isn't exactly a motorcycle expert—thought this was a brilliant idea remains a mystery, especially since he couldn't even manage to get her guest to the finish line. One can only speculate why SH brought an inexperienced rider with the group. Perhaps it was just to inflate the numbers, as there were nowhere near as many participants as Heughan had reported 🤷
In the first group—Sam Heughan and Sam Retford—on the way to the Galloway distillery, the final stop.
However, after seeing his video 🔝 SH’s companion was ostensibly there just 'for decoration'—a merely superficial addition. In reality, this focus reflects rather ironically on his own video: after the first lap, his companion vanishes like a magic act.
If his guest isn’t the expert she claims to be and he cannot rely on her at crucial moments, the entire premise of the invitation falls apart. He would do well to simply buy her a ticket back to West Cork—where she lives—since having her around is doing him no favours. Frankly, his judgment is clouded; she is draining his energy to her dubious purpose, and he is prolonging a situation that is a complete waste of time.
SH arrives alone at the Galloway Distillery—the final destination—thus concluding the Ride Galloway on Father's Day.

Wonderful post! My secondhand embarrassment for Sam and his poorly orchestrated circus just keeps growing!
Not … yet …
WE STAYED THERE, THE four of us, through the rest of that day, the night beyond, and most of the next day. When I finally resumed contact with the world, I was curled beside Jamie, a sheet of canvas flapping in a gentle wind above us.
“Here, Auntie.” Young Ian’s hands slid under my arms, and he lifted me gently into a sitting position.
“What …?” I croaked, and he put a canteen to my mouth. I drank. It was cider and I had never tasted anything better. Then I remembered.
“Jamie?” I looked blearily round for him, but couldn’t make my eyes focus.
“He’s alive, Claire.” It was Roger, squatting next to me, smiling. Bloodshot and black-stubbled, but smiling. “I don’t know how you did it, but he is alive. We were afraid to move you—the two of you, I mean, because you wouldn’t let go of him.
” I looked around. We were still behind the rocky outcrop, shielded from the battlefield, but I could hear—and smell—the cleaning-up. Grunts and talk and the shoof of shovels and soft thud of dirt cast aside. Burying the dead.
But not us.
I put a hand on Jamie. He looked dead. I certainly felt dead. But apparently we weren’t. …
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
… I wetted my cracked lips and leaned over Jamie.
“Can you hear me?” I said.
His face twitched briefly, fell into stillness, and then—after an agonizingly long moment—his eyes opened.
Only a dark-blue, red-rimmed slit, but open.
“Aye,” he whispered.
“The battle’s over. You’re not dead.” He regarded me for a long moment, his mouth slightly open.
“Not … yet,” he said, in what I thought was a rather grudging tone.
“We’re going home,” I said.
He breathed for a minute, then said, “Good,” and closed his eyes again.
- Chapter 148
-- Not … Yet …
Sam started following a restaurant in Edinburgh called ARDFERN.
Thank you anon. Everyone please practice your shocked faces for when it turns out to be the restaurant in question. While we’re all on the edge of our seats waiting for new photos, that will surely be exciting and overflowing with love, I’d just like to remind everyone that, as can be seen above, this is all part of a game Sam and Purv are both very much a part of.
But I’d like to offer another possibility: are the photos even necessary anymore?
The story is already out there. It already managed to get a few people here jumping out of their seats, so God forbid we forget Steph exists for even a second. So Purv and her magical "global team", don't even have to post any photos, it will be absolute truth for Purv’s army of sock accounts anyway.
And the proof? Sam’s follow, of course.
Who actually needs to drag himself all the way to Edinburgh with a woman and child he may or may not even like, when you can get the exact same effect with a useful blogger and an Instagram follow?
Personally, I’d love to see these photos, if they exist. I’m always encouraging Sam to improve, and maybe this time he’ll even look at her. SQUEE!!!
This has become so stupid it’s exhausting. The fatigue is visible across the fandom, and my guess is that with 3-6 more months of games like these, there won’t be many people left here to laugh at the joke Sam is making of himself with her. Purv will keep talking to herself, Sam’s mommies will keep crowding his events, and the wider circle will keep shrinking.
I’m sorry I haven’t posted all the anons I’ve received over the past few days, will hopefully get to them later. But one anon asked why I think Jamie Roy went to the match in Miami and Sam didn’t.
So beyond Sam’s marketing failure with the Tartan Army, unfortunately for Sam, Jamie is the new Jamie now. And maybe this is the first real spark of Sam’s imminent irrelevance.
Until recently, I still hoped he would wake up, understand where things were heading, catch it in time, and change direction. Build an image that would actually serve him, instead of this circus that anyone who so much as sticks their head inside can see is rotten from within. Take care of his businesses. Expand his audience.
But for now, it seems he’s mostly investing his energy in manipulating the fans who still care about him.
The hourglass that flipped when the show ended just keeps running.
Thanks for the video to, you know who you are! 😘
Lately I've found myself thinking a lot about Sam Heughan, the Outlander fandom, and what happens when a show that has been part of our lives for over a decade finally comes to an end. And honestly? I don't have the answers. I'm just trying to make sense of it all.
The reality is that for many of us, Sam and Outlander are deeply connected. Most of us discovered him because of Jamie Fraser. We fell in love with the character first, and then became interested in the actor behind him. That's not unusual. It's how fandom works.
Now Outlander is over.
Yes, the show is still available to watch and it will most likely bring in new viewers. Some of those viewers will become Sam fans too. But the question I keep coming back to is: what does Sam's career look like now that there are no new seasons bringing millions of people back every year?
On one hand, Sam is doing what many actors do after a long-running role. He's exploring different opportunities. There are the whisky businesses, the books, the travel projects, the charity work, acting roles, voice work, appearances and events. On paper, that all makes sense. But I also understand why some fans are feeling uneasy. Over the years, the relationship between Sam and the fandom has changed. In the earlier days, many fans felt they were seeing a more spontaneous, authentic version of him. These days, some feel that nearly every social media post is connected to a product, a launch, an event or a promotion. Whether that's fair or not is another discussion entirely.
The truth is that fame changes things. Running businesses changes things. Having every post analysed by thousands of people changes things. At the same time, I think some fans are experiencing a kind of fatigue. There seems to be a feeling among parts of the fandom that they're constantly being sold something. A new bottle. A new event. A new project. A new experience. Again, that doesn't mean Sam is doing anything wrong. He's building a career and businesses beyond Outlander. That's perfectly reasonable. But right now, there are fans who feel less like they're sharing a journey with him and more like they're customers being marketed to.
Then there's another issue that makes everything even messier.
A growing number of fans seem less interested in Sam's work and more interested in his private life. Every photo, every comment, every interview gets picked apart and turned into theories, hidden meanings and innuendo. Personally, I wonder if that's part of the reason we see less of the spontaneous Sam that we fans remember.
If every post becomes a conspiracy theory, wouldn't you become more guarded too?
And it creates a strange cycle. Fans critisze and analyze. Sam becomes more private. Fans feel he's becoming less authentic. Which causes even more speculation.
The result is a fandom that feels a little lost at the moment.
Some fans are excited for whatever comes next. Some are frustrated. Some are worried that without Outlander the momentum will slow down. Some are simply happy to support whatever Sam chooses to do. Maybe all of those feelings can be true at the same time.
What I do know is that we're watching something that happens to a lot of actors. For twelve years Sam Heughan was the face of one of television's most beloved characters. Now he's trying to figure out who Sam Heughan is beyond Jamie Fraser, while fans are trying to figure out what their place is in that journey.
Perhaps that's why everything feels a little uncertain right now.
Not because Sam is a fraud.
Not because the fandom is collapsing.
But because we're all standing in the space between what was and what comes next.
No doubt, Sam has had to learn how to reinvent himself over the past year and a half and deal with the end of one era and the beginning of another. But he is not some rare exception. Caitriona went through the exact same thing, probably in a healthier way. Plenty of actors who played one role for years, with the same level of intensity, have gone through it too. And so do regular people, when they leave a place after many years or go through a drastic life change. Sometimes under much harder circumstances.
At the end of the day, he got twelve very successful years. Those years gave him a platform, opportunities to build businesses, and a large fanbase that stood behind him. The fact that he is now destroying that with his own two hands doesn’t mean I have to feel sorry for him.
It may be a bit of a chicken and egg situation, like you said, but I have no doubt that if Sam weren’t so secretive and manipulative, people wouldn’t be analyzing every reflection in his photos. If people believed he had nothing to hide and that he was honest with his fans, there would be no need to take out a magnifying glass to figure out where he is, build timelines, and ask how, within 72 hours, he somehow managed to be in London, Cork, Belfast, Glasgow, and Edinburgh.
At the end of the day, there is a loss of trust here between him and his fans. And in my opinion, the source of that is him.
Only those who are on my friends list will be my tags. Those who are not on this list will not be able to write a comment. P…..s friends are very upset, as if I have no right to express my opinion on this wonderful couple, such as Sam & Caitriona
whose fans I have been since the beginning of the film and have even reached their age..
.Happy weekend ❤️
Ps-
And I'm writing because of another message. While I'm here
What platonic love are these people talking about? 🤷♀️🤭Can't they see, can't they stand it, that they can't touch each other?
We've been watching for so many years?
I respect their relationship and love...
The rest is none of my business, they know better what they want and what they don't...
