the american crow is a large member of the corvid family found distributed throughout much of north america. they are solid black, with an iridescent sheen (some individuals, like the bird pictured in the third photo, have different coloration due to leucism or other genetic mutations). they are adaptable and intelligent, commonly known for problem-solving and forming relationships with humans who offer food. american crows are socially monogamous, and mated pairs form large families (up to 15 individuals), with previously fledged nestlings helping their parents raise new offspring. many crows do not breed until 4-5 years of age, though they become sexually mature at 2 years old. although associated with bad luck or bad omens by many, crows display compassion for others in their flock along with often engaging in play behavior for the sake of fun; they typically do not have ‘brooding’ or introverted personalities, and are highly social birds.
