The second artist I chose is Mark Todd. As opposed to Marco Brambila’s medium, Todd utilizes illustration to make art. A lot of his pieces feel very Adult Swim- esque and kinda make the viewer feel uncomfortable, but in a good way. Personally I think it’s really wacky and kinda fun, almost like graffiti. The pieces that initially caught my attention were the superhero pieces he did. For these pieces, Todd re-illustrates the covers of old school comic books. Moreover they are also collages of other comic books as well, which is apparent from the different titles on the pieces. The colors are vibrant and remind me a lot of looking through the classic red and blue 3D glasses. Like hid other works, Todd portrays these super powered characters in his own weird and wacky style. For example in the picture above Ironman is twisted up and disfigured, almost as if he’s caught in an intense game of twister. The other piece that intrigues me is the upside down spider-man head, which makes a frowning face. Although it seems unintended by the original artist, Todd’s spin adds a touch of comedy to these otherwise normal posters. Ultimately Todd’s pieces are just weird and funny, which is why I get a kick out of them.

Alright, so one artist that we talked about in class that fascinates me is Marco Brambilla. Primarily his use of media in his pieces. His works are filled with chaos and insanity, but they also weirdly fit together. Also the amount of work that is put into his videos is amazing as well. The fact that there are hundreds, if not thousands of bits of film cut up and arranged to fit together in one coherent image is just mesmerizing. It really reminds me of where’s Waldo or I Spy, where there’s just a bunch of information coming at you and your eyes just kinda take it all in. But after a while you kinda slow down and start identifying certain things. Examples of this are the Jonas brothers angels from Night at the Museum 3, or the E.T. movie poster, or even the Stay puff marshmallow man. It really speaks to me because of how crazy and intricate the videos are. Almost as if you can stretch them out and create a large mega poster to hang as a sort of mural. Ultimately I feel like his works are just pure insanity, and even though after awhile it starts to hurt your head (from all the information that your eyes are receiving), its wildly entertaining.
