The rant to end rants
I don’t get it. My entire week has been FILLED with bullshit from men who think women are objects or that they’re beneath them.
How on Earth am I supposed to turn the other cheek when someone via the Internet wishes a violent act of rape and murder on me, or worse - a woman I don’t know and can’t protect?
How am I supposed to feel when today, while driving at night in the POURING rain, a car full of dudes stops traffic on a highway just to roll down their windows to shout nonsense cat calls at me then speed away. SPEED AWAY. Endangering everyone’s lives to “look masculine”.
What do I even say to a man so full of himself who ACTUALLY TELLS ME that he used me as a “practice doll” so he could “get confident for the hot older chicks he wants to bang”. Raggedy Anne right here, ladies and gents!
What about that day where I went to work without makeup on, and my boss - my only coworker - told me that I should never come to the office without makeup on again, and offered me money to have a makeup kit at work “if that made it easier”.
How am I supposed to feel when I look through my closet and pick clothes that are baggy and cover me because I’m acutely afraid of being harassed at the mall again.
How am I, as a woman, supposed to feel when a man calls me a bitch or asks if I’m on my period because I’m being assertive, when if a man had said it - he’d be respected.
“Whoa, did your boobs get bigger?” No, did your dick get smaller? Oh wait, I forgot - I actually don’t give a fuck.
How about when I buy condoms at a grocery store and the man at the register thinks it’s okay to remark with a wink “Favoured? You don’t need condoms for that! He’d probably like it better without anyway.” Like he was doing a service to a male comrade.
Women’s iClouds getting hacked for naked photos, but where were the men’s dick pics? I sure as shit have gotten a ton of those without ever asking for them, so I certainly know they exist!
Doxing women who speak out about gender inequality because “they need to teach us a lesson about our place in the world”. What the actual fuck?! We have access to all of the information to ever exist ever, and we use it to instill fear in others, and for what?
If I hear the phrase “friend zoned” one more time, I don’t know what I’ll do. How about “I can’t take no as an answer because I know I’m right for you, even if you don’t agree, and I’m going to pursue you until you get uncomfortable enough to be really stern with me, then I’m going to be really angry and call you a bitch for being assertive and wasting all my precious time - zone” I think that’s a tad more accurate, but I could be wrong?
Women are still not equal in salary, and the main reason isn’t even wage inequality - it’s that women are less likely to ask for a raise or a bonus because they don’t want to seem spoilt. I once went two weeks without reminding my boss that he hadn’t paid me, because I was afraid he’d think I was just there for the money, that I was being fussy, and fire me on the spot. Where did that idea come from?! At what point in my life did I learn that, and why?!
A women is in control of her body and chooses not to be monogamous: she’s a dirty whore. A slut. A loose woman, and she should be ashamed of herself. A man - he’s a man. He was just getting it out of his system! Boys will be boys after all! “No means yes, yes means anal” remember?
I know change is happening.. I know it is, but fuck me if I’m not sick and tired of being polite and patient when someone is sexist or misogynistic because I’m afraid I’ll offend them or that they’ll think I’m rude. “What’s got her panties in a knot?” You sir. You are a fucking sexist pig, that’s what upset me. That’s what offended me. That’s what made me uncomfortable. Eyes up here buddy.
Call me pretty. Call me sexy, beautiful, hot. I can be all of those things because so can you. What you can’t be is a slut, a whore, be on your period, be a bitch; be a spoilt brat. Instead, you’re a champ, experienced, assertive, authoritative; a strong negotiator.
I know it’s not all men, and for the love of all that is good, I WANT to be corrected. I WANT someone to tell me “No - you’ve got it wrong. Your experiences are totally isolated and they don’t happen on a regular basis to women everywhere.”
I’ve just reached my patience cap this week.
