What would I do if something happened to you, Billy? First, there was a car crash and then a rig fire. And who knows what’s next?

" It's been a long time since I've met a man who could...uh..." There was a blush, a giggle, and an inability to form the right words. - Caidy
Seemed like she hadn’t forgotten about the other night. No doubts, he took pride in that. The wide smile on his face indicated that he wasn’t trying to hide that fact. Why would he when they both had found so much joy in it? Or still did. The aftereffects hadn’t yet faded to their amusement. “A man who could…?” he teased, hovering half over her with his lips over hers and his nose brushing against hers as his arms wrapped around her waist. “You’re gonna have to tell me what you mean. Need to know where I’m at ‘cause I feel like I still have to do a lot more to top them.”

There were empty drawers, but she left so much behind. She left him, she left Hershey! But she explained it all. She could understand if he was angry that she left a letter and didn’t call, but everything had an explanation! But he just wanted so much to believe that she just left like before – and she couldn’t help but wonder why.
“ I did! I wrote it down in five pages trying my best to make you understand why I had to go and where I was going, why you couldn’t come with me! I left it – “ she stormed past him and pointed toward the bedroom. “ – In there, on your pillow so you’d find it! “
She knew she put it there, she could retrace her steps to the letter but when he asked her why she came back she turned to look at him hurt and confused. “ I came back because I love you, and I promised you I’d come back I just needed to know – “ and that’s where she took a breath, shook her head, tears streaming from her eyes.
“ This isn’t just about me leaving…” she muttered quietly, mostly to herself, firmly believing he read the letter and everything she told him about her, her family, her lineage. Biting her lip she looked back at the folder, then back at Chris.
“ For the record ; I’m not the one walking away – you’re the one telling me to leave. Funny that you’ll look past all of my flaws but not this one, huh?” She nodded slowly as she would look back at her packed bags she had put down, walking over to pick them back up again but she hesitated, hopeful he’d stop her.
But she had a feeling – and it was one she hated.
IT SOUNDED MORE AND MORE ABSURD. None of it made sense. Something in him was trying to protect him, told him not to believe her. There was this hole in his heart. The first time she’d left had been bad enough. But he never expected her to do it a second time. Even though she came back this time, it didn’t make up for anything. He had been left with nothing. Chris knew he wouldn’t survive it a third time. How was he supposed to trust her? How could she assure him it wouldn't happen again? Her claiming that she’d left a letter on his pillow, on their bed... he could only shake his head. She did it again. Again she lied. He bit down on his lower lip as she asked that question, eyes closing as he lowered his head with a sigh. No, he couldn’t look past that and he wasn’t going to try. His voice was calm this time, but he was still stirred up. “Funny how wrong I've been about you. You should go.” Which meant he wasn’t going to stop her. Instead, he nudged the bridge of his nose. He couldn’t take no more.

“ I didn’t leave you ! “ she yelled back. “ I told you I was coming back ! “ Her grip on the fabric of her shirt got tighter as she looked at him. “ I understand that a letter wasn’t the best way to do it but I didn’t have a choice! I explained everything! I thought of all people you would understand! “ Yelling at him only brought tears forward, her head was spinning but she didn’t want him to see her like this. He was angry with her and she knew he would be by leaving with just a letter ; but she never thought he’d hate her this much for it. She thought that maybe … well, she’s not sure what she thought anymore.
A chance to get an idea of what her family was, to maybe learn more about herself she thought that he would understand – but she was also part of a lineage she worried a man like him would want no part of. Maybe that’s why she was to take the blame. Not so much for leaving, she thought, but for whose blood runs in her veins. She didn’t know for sure, and she didn’t want to ask.
“ I would never hurt you like that again…I learned my lesson the first time.” Her voice went from yelling to a dead whisper as she shook her head again, looking at the folder, then back at him.
“ But I guess it doesn’t matter, does it..? “
WHY WOULD HE BELIEVE HER? The more she talked, the more he couldn’t make sense of anything she said. She hadn’t told him anything about coming back. All there was were empty drawers when he came home, no sign of her. Their home had become an empty place. How it had driven him to the edge of madness when he tried to find her. But even her brother was gone, the only one he could have reached out to. What was he supposed to think? WHAT was he supposed to think now? It was like looking at a completely different person. At the very start, at their first date, she had been anything but strange. There had always been this sense of familiarity, which had been shattered the first time she left. But now? Now he couldn’t see as the same woman he had fallen in love with—not anymore. Chris stared at her, the scowl made him older than he looked. His pulse shot up. Did she just lie to his face? “ You didn't tell me anything. There was nothing. Just like the first time. So don't tell me you've learned your lesson, ” he got louder and Hershey who didn’t hold any grudge against Caidy, even had welcomed her home, now was hiding under the sofa. “ Why are you even here? To apologize again for realizing you made another mistake? Save your breath and leave! I’m done listening. ”

Caidence found herself lost in his affections. While this was the first kiss they shared ( and hopefully not the last ) it felt like they had been together far longer than these past few hours. If this is what it felt like to have a soul mate, then she was all in. No questions asked.
She didn’t want to break away, even as she held her breath in the kiss and her head gave a small spin. She’d simply blame that on the intense feeling between them as her arms slipped around his shoulders, her foot not bothering to back to the ground.
IT COULDN’T BE STOPPED, not that it was in his intention. It was a perfect match. Him and her. Like two pieces that had lost each other and found each other again. Nothing with her seemed foreign, although there was still a lot to learn from each other.
But it seemed like he got to know everything about her just with that kiss. The familiarity, yet so new. His body leaned into hers, hovering over her. His thumbs did not break contact as he still held her face, lips moved slower against hers, feeling them sticking together like glue.

His words stung. No - a sting would fade. His words wounded her as she looked away from him. She didn’t ask him about the letter that she left for him, explaining the finer details of the situation. Maybe he read it, maybe he didn’t care – exactly what Caiden warned her about.
Caidy took a few steps forward and dropped a thick folder on the table. “ Never thought I was your problem…But thank you for the clarification, Officer.” pointing to the folder. “ These are some things I thought you should know, but maybe you’d find more use for it in a fire place - you know - since I’m not your problem anymore.”
She’d wrap herself in her jacket, hands brushing against her hidden, growing stomach.
WHEN IT CAME TO HER, Chris didn't know where he was at anymore. What it was with her. Why his own words stung, anyway. She had left him twice. Twice without a word. By now there were no doubts that he had been wrong about her—completely wrong. Not moving when she dropped the folder on the table, he cared little about its contents. He didn't want to try again. He even fought against the feeling that wanted convince him to question her intentions behind it. That folder, the way she called him officer, her saying there were things he should know about. He had enough. What was she even trying? “You left me, Caidy. Not once but twice,” he shouted, losing control of his temper that he otherwise knew to tame. “You!” he pointed his finger at her, the scowl on his face became darker, hovered like a shadow over his scruffed features. “Now you expect me to listen to you again? I'M DONE, Caidy. I'm done making a fool out of myself.”

Feeling his hand tighten around hers to stop her she paused for a moment in confusion. Turning to face him she went to ask him if he was okay but she never got a chance to ask. She couldn’t get over how he looked at her - like she was the only one around and how it made her blush. But when she felt him pull her in, his hand to her cheek followed by his lips on hers that’s where Caidence fell completely still.
Eyes fluttered shut as she moved her other hand to his waist feeling the heat and spark from his kiss. Maybe it sounded silly, like a fairy tale but how it felt to be kissing him felt so right and intense even with such a simple act of affection.
Without even thinking on it, her right leg moved off the ground in a ‘pop’. And she only thought that happened in movies.
IT JUST SEEMED RIGHT, JUST SO RIGHT. It could be felt. There were no doubts, no remorse while his lips enclosed hers in a deep but gentle kiss, holding her face as though she was made of porcelain. A rush hushed through every inch of his body, a kind of warmth he had never felt with anyone before. There Chris knew that this was more than just right. It was perfect. She was perfect. He was certain if he hadn’t done it at this very moment, that he would have had added to his list of regret. But he was glad he had taken the chance as it was within his reach. And now he prolonged the moment, not even breaking away from her to catch his breath.

Just holding his hand she felt something electric between them. There was a moment of silence as she looks back at Chris seeming so lost in the moment - but more than happy about it. She had a feeling this dinner would be memorable, just like how they met one another.
Throughout the dinner Caidy would ask questions about him to get to know him and give tidbits back in return about her and when food arrived she was eager to try everything with him. Even at one point she would try to use chopsticks to feed him some noodles in the attempt of being cute, but she was no master of chopsticks. So, it was no surprise when some noodles fell into the sweet and sour sauce. But the night was still young and Caidy was not yet to call it quits.
Outside of the restaurant the night was falling, stars were shining and she’d take a deep breath. This was almost surreal this feeling and it hadn’t yet faded. Walking back toward the bar, she would reach over and she’d take his hand. If it was back in his pocket she’d find a way to urge him slightly to bring it out so she could hold it - sweat or no - she didn’t seem to mind.
“ I’m not ready for this night to end yet…but I’m not sure where else I can take you around here. We can just walk if you’d like to..?”
Everything that happened at the dinner, he would never forget. From the food to the laughter as she tried to feed him with chopsticks, forgetting about the looks of other couples they had drawn to themselves. Every second, every moment just seemed perfect. Nothing with her seemed strange, as if he had known her for much longer. “Yes, I'd like that.” But he then held her back before she could continue walking, his hand tightened around hers. The sweating had subsided, but he didn't care about that anymore. He just liked the feeling of her delicate hand in his. His bright blue eyes just looked down into hers as he sank into her beauty, even though his shadow covered half of her face. Yet, it was still as clear as the starry sky above them. He wasn’t sure what came over him, but nothing that night felt wrong. Nothing at all. Not even when he leaned down to her, holding her hand while his other extended to her cheek, and then his lips fell over hers.

“ I think that’s where you’re wrong.” she shook her head when he said he was nothing special. She could go on this tangent about how everyone is special in their own way but she wouldn’t do that. The rest of the world didn’t matter to her at the moment. Her focus was on Chris and this feeling he gave her. “ Just talking to you for this while, and when I talked to you yesterday – Someone who can make someone like me feel like you are now? That’s pretty special.”
And as he told her about his hands and how he didn’t want to touch her due to his sweaty hands she just smiled, reaching over across the table and putting her hands over his. “ Then allow me to touch yours and give you assurance that I am nothing to be nervous about.”
There Chris halted, unable to say anything. Unable to speak when she suddenly reached over to put her hands over his. Normally, he would get uncomfortable but he didn’t. His fingers didn’t even get stiff. There was just this hot rush running through every inch of his body and it worsened his sweating. But the only reason why he was staring at her now, was because she had surprised him. What was he to say now when she had thrown it right back at him? Now she had him
