“Are you jealous of the fancy date?”

“This will just be a signal fire. We’ll fill those heroes full of holes, and put them in their place. All for a brighter future.” → happy birthday, Ana! @aizawashoutta
kisumshi:
When Otabek points out the consequences of helping, Yuri’s quick to nudge a small stack of disks away from him.
“Oh shit, sorry.”
The last thing he wants is to get his friend in trouble, so for the meantime, he pretends to glance over random track lists, occasionally picking up covers with weird or interesting art to study.
Eyes swell open, however, by Otabek’s response. He couldn’t go? Why the Hell not?! He feels his jaw clench, mind reeling over the possibilities why Otabek would reject his company. Had he found new, better friends to hang out with? Was he bored of Yuri’s company already? Maybe he’d bombarded the Kazakh skater with too many texts and memes and finally exhausted his bountiful patience.
Upon hearing the real reason why Otabek can’t attend though, a smile immediately returns to his features, hands slamming onto the table in a rush of excitement jolting a few lulling coworkers from their slumber.
“Wait, for real!? That’s awesome!”
Yuri readies his fingers over his phone, practically gunning to type out the details.
“Forget stupid food then, give me the time and venue–I’m so coming to see you!”
At the not so subtle combination of surprise and confusion darting across his friend’s features, Otabek couldn’t help but feel a niggle of guilt creep into his conscious, making the short silence in which Yuri processed the rejection seem like it dragged on for way too long. Even when the other’s demeanor bounced right back to normal, he couldn’t mimic the enthusiasm, knowing he’d have to deliver more disappointing news in the minutes to come.
With brows tightly knit, another sigh fell silently from his lips as he wandered over and joined the blond at the desk. Maybe that’s why he’d neglected to mention his gig before now, as, much to Otabek’s own chagrin, it’s not an event they’d be able to attend together, not physically anyway. Of course, he’d be loading updates onto his various social media platforms and texting Yuri as many details as he wanted throughout.
“Sorry Yuri, it’s over 18′s only, you won’t be allowed in.”
“We’d both get into a lot of trouble.” Otabek wasn’t so strait laced as to not bend a rule here or there, but breaking the law was something else entirely.
“Why don’t we meet up right after? I’ll let you know how everything went.” He hoped with this suggestion at least, the blow might be softened if only a little.

Much to the staff’s dismay, their number one loiterer had arrived forty minutes early. It was one thing spending hours perusing vintage titles, and another to come in for the sole purpose of distracting someone from their job. Yuri slides off his shades as he steps inside, looking left then right; those were usually the places Otabek was stationed. But upon hearing his name, his face immediately lights up.
“Otabek!”
Heavy sighs were heard throughout the store soon after–It was going to be one long, gruelling hour.
Yuri jogs down the main aisle, grinning from ear to ear.
“Lame, they got you doing the boring stuff again?” He tosses his studded backpack on the floor, making himself right at home. “Maybe I can help, I finished practice at the rink early today, so I’ve got time to kill.”
“By the way, there’s this new street food joint that opened up at the bazaar.”
A knee knocks against the desk as he leans forward, elbows propped on the counter. He cradles his phone in between his hands, flicking a finger up and down as he scrolls through a flurry of foodie reviews.
“Everyone online is raving about it, wanna give it a try when we’re done here?”
He was accustomed now, more or less, to the unanimous reaction whenever his co-workers spotted the slightly unruly Russian making his entrance. Most were aware of who he was, either by his friend’s own popularity or after interrogating Otabek over the identity of the ‘cute boy’ who often met him at closing time. A smile tugged at his lips in response to Yuri’s, not as pronounced but a smile regardless, head falling into a nod.
“It’s fine, all new staff have to do this.” Seniors fobbing off mundane jobs no one wants to do onto their underlings was an age long practice afterall. Continuing to slot the discs back into their designated rows, he shuffled Yuri’s bag further out of the way with the side of his foot after receiving a particularly pointed look from one of the managers.
“Thanks Yura, but you shouldn’t help me. It looks bad.”
He flashed another brief smile to show the offer was appreciated before resuming task, listening attentively as Yuri reeled off his summary of the newly opened food district. Only instead of meeting the invitation with his usual compliance, Otabek paused, breathing a short sigh as he prepared to let the other down gently.
“Sounds good, I can’t tonight though.” It only now just occurred to him that telling Yuri about the gig had completely slipped from mind. “I’m playing a set later and I don’t have a lot of time to get ready after this as it is. Maybe tomorrow we can go?”
There was still a whole hour to go. Meaning that when the entrance buzzer alerting staff to the arrival of another customer resonated across the room, the last thing Otabek expected to see so soon was the familiar animal print garb and half obscured visage of his fellow competitor and good friend, Yuri Plisetsky. Dark eyes tracked the younger skater’s movements all the way from the the back of the store, lodged between two aisles where Otabek currently worked on the tedious duty of rearranging misplaced vinyl discs back into alphabetical order.
He didn’t mind the task though. It was something easy to fill the final stretch of his shift that didn’t require much brain power, allowing his mind to focus on the introduction set he was scheduled to play in a local club tonight. Head poking above one of the shelves, a hand ascended to give a brief wave over the stacks of vinyls to garner his friend’s attention.
“Yuri.”
“Over here.”
