“’Course I will. You’re a good agent and I like talking to you.” Daniel didn’t see the point in continued machismo, it didn’t get him anywhere anyway. Once a week would kill any chance Daniel had to date, but he found that he didn’t mind.“Once a week? Any place or are we going on weekly adventures?”

Pepper nodded and leaned back in her chair as he spoke. Her demeanor immediately shifted into something more professional, much more businesslike. If this was a job interview, then she was certainly going to treat it like one. Glancing down at her desk for a scrap of paper, she quickly picked up a pen and jotted down notes. Tony must have had an entire file on Sousa, she was sure, but this was her own interview. She’d do it her own way.

“So, detective, veteran, good at filing, attention to detail.” The joke definitely didn’t have the effect he wanted. Unsure of how to respond to it, Pepper plowed on with the interview. “I can look for some filing positions for now while I scan to see if we have more administrative positions? Just to see how you work and just to put you somewhere while I check for openings. Not sure how many we have.”

Feeling the genial atmosphere die Daniel sat taller, trying to remain respectful. Pepper’s note taking set him on edge. While he was all for keeping ones thoughts in order he couldn’t help but wonder what it said.

Work was work and he knew better than to argue with her plan. Nodding once Daniel cleared his throat, adding to his list. “I am also a fast learner, if you think I could fit somewhere I’m sure I could pick up the needed skills easily enough.”

“No, we’ll get a boring guy in a suit who thinks he’s a super spy. I wouldn’t say that’s better.” Her irritation was plain on her face. Daniel couldn’t help but wonder if he’d ever caused a similar feeling and simply not noticed. Seems like he had missed a lot. “Sure thing, sounds swell.”
