Ik it's super old and this acct is super dead but I'm here to complain, one of the things that frustrates me the Most abt the Tumblr discourse abt pedophilia is that the Basis of the argument, which I think was a good conversation to have, was so lost in the shuffle of it all. The basis being that:
1) paraphilia terms are outdated, being classified as having a paraphilia doesn't prove harm done and it doesn't automatically mean you Will harm someone, not all abusers are abusers just because of a paraphilia
2) it is way too easy to pick and choose who is and isn't someone who falls under having a paraphilia, and it is way too easy to lie about someone and claim they're dangerous when there is no proof of real harm done
3) the knee jerk reaction of saying Kill All Pedophiles in response to trying to have complicated analysis about paraphilias does nothing to support victims of abuse, and ignores the systemic issues that help cause abuse in the first place
Everything went to shit so fast and it's so so frustrating to think abt why did all that happen at all. Like I know what led into it, it was like poor word choice leading into a huge campaign of harassment and bigotry but still. Can we actually have the conversation now. I was actually invested before it turned into a completely different thing.
I was thinking "oh but I can't be autistic, I'm so good at eye contact and small talk! I know all the right ratios for looking/not looking and asking/answering questions! I even know the best posture to communicate low-stakes friendliness (about 15 degrees from facing them. weight on one leg. 70% eye contact. still hands.) everybody says I'm great!" before realizing I may be refuting my own point
Went home for a week-long break.... And my family....... Is FUCKING with the space I spent WEEKS cleaning and organizing, SINGLEHANDEDLY, ON MY OWN, FOR DAYS STRAIGHT, after it's been unused and unappreciated for YEARS. This has been so largely viewed as My Space in my house I'm going to lose my MIND my sibling is moving their little Survival Horror Wet Dream gear in here I'm going to BECOME the horror if you don't give me my space back. ALSO WHAT THE FUCK IS SIX LARGE ASS CANS OF CRUSHED TOMATOES GONNA DO FOR YOU IN AN APOCALYPSE SCENARIO. YOURE DYING. YOURE DYING. YOUR ASS IS NOT SURVIVING THE HYPOTHETICAL APOCALYPSE. YOURE DEAD. LEARN SKILLS LIKE HUNTING OR FISHING OR FORAGING OR HOME-GARDENING IF YOURE THAT WORRIED. HOARDING CANNED FOOD IS NOT THE ANSWER. READ A BOOK.
