Phone Transmission

When the transmitter on MCR’s website was still active, if you hit the flashing numbers in a certain way, it would reveal the code “017602783136.” What most of us didn’t realize was that it wasn’t just a string of numbers–it was also a phone number. If you called the number “1 760 278 3136,” you’d hear a muffled transmission. Some of the words are hard to make out, but the word “Draculoid” is quite clear. One fan realized that the recording contained Morse code, and translated it to the following:

…  ….  .  ..  …  …  ._  .._.  .  ._  ._  ._ S H E I S S A F E A A A or maybe SHE IS SAFE AAA

Another fan pointed out that “AAA” means “stop.” I don’t know how long this recording had been active, but it essentially told us the fate of the girl after the “SING” video.

At the time of writing this, you can actually still call the number and hear the transmission yourself. Or you can simply listen to the recording above!

It's honestly so far fetched that gerard was able to pull off what is genuinely a full fledged musical theater rock show at this point with distinct characters and 0 dialogue aside from his weirdo bad accent band leader rambling. And it's all through pantomime and really small but clever tricks of economic storytelling (punch cards, Sylvia batting away her chaperone, the clerk using the upside down message on the checklist as a way to secretly ask for help, the silly shitty keposhka SOS bracelets). like this is musical theater and it is corny certainly, and largely comedy based. But it's uhhhh fucking fun. And GOOD. It's all that and it's a fucking LIT rock concert with pyro. Face shredding penis shredding obliterated etc. Tbh I think we were ALL scared it would be musical theater and it would be fucking annoyinggggg like could you imagine if the clerk had a lav mic and was like exchanging shitty dialogue with gerard for 2 hours that would be 0 fun. It's sooooooo pantomime.

a final project of mine officially titled "HESITANT ALIENS: an exploration of oneself through another". each of the eleven photos is rooted in the themes and feelings evoked by its respective track off of gerard way's first solo album, hesitant alien, and features me in an outfit modeled after the one they wear on the cover. gerard is, as you can probably tell from this blog, hugely important to me in ways i cannot and likely needn't express to anyone who might be viewing this post. this project wouldn't have happened without my photographer slash roommate el (not on tumblr), my dearest friend and co-conspirator helen @frankiecorleone (pictured in the brother and get the gang together photos, owner of the white headphones, and drag makeup artist extraordinaire), and each of my darling friends that agreed to be in the get the gang together photo and help out in a trillion other ways, including emmy @eternal-intern (the rest are, like el, not on tumblr). thank you all for your patience and encouragement. i love you endlessly. 🤍
