here's your reminder that you shouldn't have to have close proximity to a cause for you to care about it; you shouldn't have to have a gay brother to care about gay rights, you shouldn't have to intimately know a trans person to care about trans rights, and you shouldn't have to have a black bestfriend to care about black lives
“Let me wake up next to you, have coffee in the morning and wander through the city with your hand in mine, and I’ll be happy for the rest of my…little life.”
— Charlotte Eriksson
do you ever read fanfiction at 3 in the morning, read something stupid, and then proceed to make sporadic shrieking sounds?

Imagine where we would be if the Supreme Court hadn’t ruled the Civil Rights Acts of the 1870s were unconstitutional.
For context: they forced all businesses to allow both whites and blacks to use their services and enter them (no segregation). They also made sure that state governments couldn’t instate any laws that would prevent blacks from voting.
During the civil rights acts, over 1500+ blacks were elected into government, 16 were apart of the HoR, and 1 was apart of the Senate (Hiram Revels). This was in the 1870s.
Only ten African Americans have been elected into the Senate, to the date.
May 2020 was the warmest May worldwide in recorded history, going back all the way to 1850, NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration have confirmed.
The U.S. is experiencing a growing crisis of costly and destructive heat waves, wildfires, hurricanes, floods, and other extreme weather events exacerbated by the warming climate.
In 2019, President Trump repealed repealed the Clean Power Plan, Obama’s signature climate policy. It required states to meet targets for cutting greenhouse gas emissions from power plants.
Scientists say U.S. carbon emissions are continuing to rise—even during the COVID-19 lockdown—and human activity is to blame for the crisis.
An analysis of recent polls by E&E News found that Trump’s biggest electoral weakness is his handling of environmental issues. In fact, the gulf between Trump and Biden on climate is larger than differences on other issues like race relations, the economy, or health care.
