TOMORROW IS HALLOWEEN!!!
sad news today. Beeftongue, slug beloved, is no more. it lived just over a year, a good long time for a Florida leatherleaf, and tasted dozens of lettuces and other delicious vegetation beyond any slug’s dreams. found under a fallen stop sign in Miami, I was honored to share some time with this awesome beast.
farewell, Beef.
Pride Month upon ye
Jesse: "Yo, Mr. Fring, I've been thinking about this quote, man. "One must imagine Sisyphus happy." What do you make of that?"
Gus: "Ah, Jesse, I see you've stumbled upon the existential musings of Albert Camus. It's an intriguing concept, to say the least."
Gus: "Sisyphus, condemned to an eternity of rolling a boulder uphill only to watch it roll back down again, represents the futility and absurdity of life's struggles."
Gus: "However, Camus suggests that by accepting and embracing this absurdity, one can find happiness."
Jesse: "Yeah, but I mean, isn't that just some crazy philosophical bullshit? How can someone be happy in such a fucked-up situation?"
Gus: "Happiness, Jesse, is a state of mind. It's not about the circumstances we find ourselves in, but rather how we choose to perceive and respond to them."
Gus: "Sisyphus, despite his eternal struggle, can find meaning and purpose in his repetitive task. By embracing his fate and finding fulfillment in the act itself, he transcends the burden he carries."
Jesse: "That's deep shit, man. So, what, you're saying we should just accept all the crap that comes our way and be happy about it?"
Gus: "Not necessarily. Acceptance doesn't mean complacency. It means acknowledging the realities of our situation and finding a way to navigate them while maintaining our inner peace."
Gus: "It's about finding meaning in the journey, even if the destination remains elusive."
Jesse: "Yeah? I guess that makes sense in some messed-up, twisted way... Hey, speaking of finding happiness, have you tried Taco Bell's Nacho Fries? They're insane, man!"
Gus: "...Nacho Fries, Mr. Pinkman?"
Jesse: "Oh, you gotta try 'em, Mr. Fring! They're like these crispy, seasoned fries with this gooey cheese dipping sauce. It's like a flavor explosion in your mouth, man. I bet you'd love 'em."
Gus: "If they are as remarkable as you claim, perhaps we can find a moment to indulge. After all, even in the face of existential ponderings, we mustn't forget to appreciate life's simpler pleasures."
Jesse: "That's what I'm talkin' about, Mr. Fring! We'll have ourselves a little culinary adventure amidst all the fucking chaos. Life's all about finding those moments of joy, even if it means embracing the absurdity along the way, right?"
Gus: "Indeed, Jesse. Life's contradictions often lead us to unexpected discoveries. Perhaps, we may find a glimpse of Sisyphus' elusive happiness in the process."

this photo from Atlanta’s lesbian bar last weekend is so amazing. we need to add it to the canon of images like This. A femme about to pounce!!!
[Image ID: a crowded lesbian bar. the camera is focused on the interaction of two black women. one of them is squatting down onstage wearing black cowboy regalia with silver accents. the other is wearing a simple black t-shirt, jean shorts, and a small smile on her face. both are staring deeply in each other's eyes. /.End ID]
Must watch. For anyone wondering about the Palestinian government or authorities outside of gaza. You should watch this, there is no one protecting Palestinians, they're occupied and israeli settlers have the same green light to do whatever evil just as the soldiers. If someone can add a description I'd appreciate it.
DON'T SKIP. IMPORTANT.
Transcript: So I was talking to a Palestinian friend yesterday. He lives in the West Bank and he sent me this very scary image of a photo of him with a target on his face and he told me that this photo was found on a Israeli settler group chat, and there are other images of Palestinians circulating on this group chat, where they are basically hunting Palestinians and killing them. They have already been successful at killing some of the Palestinians in this group chat, and under the photos of these Palestinians they have their names, where they live, their age, their occupation. Basically they make up like, you know this person hates Jewish people, this person calls for the death of Israel. My friend works for a humanitarian organization. So they are making these false claims to justify them killing Palestinians.
My immediate response was to tell him that he needs to get out of town, to leave his city. And he tells me that there's no way for him to leave the city because the IDF is patrolling the main roads and the Israeli settlers are patrolling the back roads. So for him to leave right now would be a suicide mission. And I think for many people, you would think if you were in his position, you would call the police or the army. Palestinians don't have an army. Palestinians have something called the Palestinian Authorities and they work directly with Israel. They sell Palestinians out, they do not protect Palestinians. And this is the realisation of the experience of a Palestinian. That there is no one protecting Palestinians.
In this group chat where Israeli settlers are sharing photos of Palestinians, they have already been successful in killing some of the Palestinians. In the group chat that whose photos they are sharing. This is a very scary situation. And I wanted to share this with you guys. Because I want you to understand the gravity of this situation. There are people who are actively killing innocent Palestinians and there is no one there to hold them accountable. They are working in the favour of the Israeli government. The Israeli government is so far right that they look at these Israeli settlers, who are committing acts of violence on Palestinians, as their heroes.
Right now all eyes are on Gaza, which is very understandable. But there is something happening in the West Bank. There is a slow genocide and ethnic cleansing that has been happening for the past decade in the West Bank. And right now Israeli settlers, Israeli government and Israeli army are using this to their advantage. And I wanted to share this with you guys, because I want you to know that these Palestinians in the West Bank - they have no army, there is no Hamas there. There is no one coming to protect them. Majority of my Palestinian friends live in the West Bank. And I feel it is my moral obligation to try to do anything I can to save them. Even if it means just letting you know the truth of what is happening.

[VD: A clip of an interview from Sky News between journalist, Dr. Myriam Francois, and news anchor, Yalda Hakim.
Hakim: Dr. Francois, there are many who are saying the Biden administration, frankly, should have acted sooner and faster. That hundreds of billions of dollars has been put at risk because the Houthis have held this area in the Red Sea at ransom.”
Francois: Sorry. So, let me just get this straight Yalda. We are bombing the poorest– one of the poorest countries in the world that has been under a humanitarian blockade. There has been famine, these people have been decimated. And we are bombing them because a couple of guys in dinghies in support for the Palestinians, who are having a genocide committed against them, they’re objecting to that and we’re bombing them? Come on, now.
Hakim: Well, it– I–
Francois: I mean, this is just an insane world for us to even think–
Hakim: I–
Francois: I’m so sorry your Amazon packages are delayed, I really am. Like, I wish mine came on time. But, you know, genocide, guys, genocide. There are two mothers a day dying in Gaza right now. It’s 109 days into a conflict in which a humanitarian crisis has been declared to the world day in, day out.
Hakim: By the way, Dr. Francois, there are many who are Yemen watchers who monitor and follow the Houthis, who say this is doing wonders for their branding, actually.
Francois: Mhm.
Hakim: That it isn't just the Palestinian cause that they're focused on.
Francois: So call a cease-fire now and end the positive branding. If you want to stop the Houthis doing what they're doing, then call a cease-fire right now.
Hakim: Do you genuinely believe that the Houthis would stop doing what they're doing, if...
Francois: They have literally said that that's why they're doing what they're doing. They have not previously blocked those routes for any other reason except this one. So, yes, I do. And I also think the West needs to start to understand, that you cannot just go around playing cowboys in the world. There are consequences to your actions. You cannot just go around bombing people's countries, ignoring international law and expect no repercussions. For every cause there is a consequence and just 'cause you don't like a couple of guys trying to resist. The fact that this is–
Hakim: I mean, these are now proscribed terrorists, the Houthis.
Francois: Sure, according to Western governments, they are terrorist governments, yeah.
Hakim: Well, also according to the Yemeni people, because they've obviously been–
Francois: Yeah, which is a Saudi-backed government, which is essentially our.
Hakim: Yeah, but the Yemenis who live under Houthi rule, talk about the fact that this group continues to terrorize them as well.
Francois: Yalda, I'm no fan of the Houthis apart from when they're blockading in favor of a cease-fire, which should have been called a long time ago. 25,000 people are dead in Gaza right now. There are over 60,000 people injured with no access to food, water, aid. How dare we have a conversation about trade, when there are children right now being treated without anesthetic?
Hakim: Well the fact is that—
Francois: There are some things that require us to make some sacrifices and this would be one of them.
Hakim: I mean, they do have the global economy, global markets hostage.
Francois: Good for them.
Hakim: Bill Browder
Francois: Good for them. Cease-fire now, cease-fire now.
Hakim: We're gonna have to leave it there. But Dr. Myriam Francois—
Francois: You cannot allow these people to be decimated and expect there to be no consequences.
Hakim: I think that is a separate conversation.

i am quite honestly very exhausted with this starbucks feminism that preoccupies itself with the centering of rich white feminine women in the neoliberal capitalist lens and typically no one else.
criticizing buying 100 stanley cups is misogynistic. criticizing taylor swift is misogynistic. margot robbie not getting nominated for an oscar is misogynistic. saying you dont like pink is misogynistic. not wanting to wear makeup is internalized misogyny. not liking romcoms or romance novels is internalized misogyny. thinking self-infantilization on the basis of it being an inherent trait of your gender is bad is internalized misogyny. these are the most pressing manifestations of misogyny. can we spare a thought for any woman not waiting in line at starbucks.

Today, Jan 27, the United States, UK, Canada, Australia, Germany, Finland, Italy, the Netherlands, and Switzerland have suspended all funding to UNRWA because Israeli authorities have accused UNRWA workers of allegedly being involved with the Oct 7 attacks on Israel. From their own website, UNRWA says that they rely on donations--
"UNRWA is the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East… UNRWA helps Palestine Refugees achieve their full potential in human development through quality services it provides in education, health care, relief and social services, protection, camp infrastructure and improvement, microfinance, and emergency assistance. UNRWA is funded almost entirely by voluntary contributions."
If you are able, please consider donating to UNRWA. If you live in the USA or Spain, your donation can be claimed for your taxes.

You can make a one-time donation or set up a monthly donation. There is also an option for Zakat.
I donated in memory of my Teta (grandmother), who was born in Jerusalem before Israel even existed and was a UNRWA nurse.
