Normally, the backstage area of the theater department was a safe haven for their Dungeons and Dragons sessions. Rarely did someone else intrude on their hallowed ground, but tonight was proving to be a rare exception. Eddie had been in the process of setting up of his screen and notes and scattering miniatures across the hand drawn map for this campaign when he heard one of the doors open. A glance at his watch determined it was too early for any of the usual suspects, and his stomach sank with dread as his gaze landed on Billy Loomis of all people. "Think you're confusing me for the wrong clique." The quip was said lightly as Eddie settled to sit on the prop throne. "The nerds are usually the ones with the glasses," he mimed pushing an imaginary pair up the bridge of his nose, "and pocket protectors and academic prowess." The comment hung in the air for a moment before he added, "Not really my department."

Eddie's hands dug into his pockets, wiping sweaty palms on the insides of the material. "Uh---" Eddie droned, going forth with the stumbling gait of man who knew he was in over his head. "Yeah. My palace, as it were," he answered. It was supposed to sound humorous. Instead, his words were flat and nervous. Tina seemed determined about that tour, and he was desperate to get some semblance of control over the situation. He slipped by and beat her to the door, leaning his back against it. Two could play the flustered game. "But y'know, Tina, you haven't even bought me dinner yet. Think it's a little early for a bit of the bedroom mambo."
It didn't really SURPRISE her that he rushed passed in order to guard his door. In fact, she had ALMOST been counting on it. But his WORDS did catch her off kilter. Only a little bit. But ENOUGH to force a little blink of surprise before the FACADE went back up and the smirk reemerged. He was just FULL of shock value, wasn't he? Good for him. Tina cocked her head to the side and simply STARED up at him for a moment. Trying to figure out the BEST course of action, but before she knew it, the girl was leaning forwards and SLIPPING one hand towards the door knob. She knew she was too close, but that was on PURPOSE. Hand SETTLED there on the worn out knob for a moment, but she didn't YET open it. Instead she stood there, mere inches from his chest and shot him a cheeky little look before playing into his game. ❝Play your CARDS right and I might even buy you dessert. You gonna SHOW me the damn room or not?❞
The air between them seemed to grow warmer as Tina got closer, shrinking the space between them. One rational brain cell argued that this wasn't a good idea, but it was quickly overwhelmed by other hornier brain cells excited at the prospect of a good time. "All right," he relented as he stepped aside, allowing Tina enough space to get through the doorway.
Inside, it would be polite to say a bomb had gone off. Sheets spilled off one side of his bed, the floor peppered with worn clothes he hadn't bothered to gather for laundry yet. His electric guitar hung on the wall, helping further obscure the mirror already partially covered by posters. The dressers were crowded with sound equipment and various detritus: emptied beer bottles, spare change, crumpled receipts, and a partially filled ashtray. "Sorry for the mess," he interjected. "Really would've called the maid if I knew I'd be entertaining company for the evening."

"Well..." Good question, he thought to himself. Hawkins was far from a bustling metropolis, and the options of places to go and things to do were slim at best. "It's the kind of place you have to make your own fun, if I'm honest." His shoulders rose and fell beneath layers of denim and leather, adding to the sentiment. "There used to be a mall, but that burned down last year." His lips curled in a sudden smile, dark humor egging it on. "Guess you could say that was a win for the Mom and Pop stores. Anyway..." he digressed, waving loosely with a hand, "if you're looking for an unadulterated time, The Hideout's about the only place for that. It's a bar on the outskirts. Me and my band play Tuesday nights."

❝ I don't know. Something tells me you'd actually do very well with therapy. You might even be one of those rare successful cases where the therapist can't even do anything else to help you because you've made so many emotional breakthroughs. ❞ Clearly, she was only teasing him. If he did have any emotional baggage he was doing a pretty good job of hiding it. She was his friend but she wasn't going to pry either. That was some shit her dad liked to do. ❝ He's an alright psychiatrist, I guess. He knows how to help everyone but himself, or his own family, for that matter, ❞ she added bitterly.
Eddie swiveled in the chair, moving to prop his elbows on the desk and resting his chin on the interlaced bridge of his fingers. "Huh. Sounds kinda like that story with the clown. Like this guy goes to see a therapist because he's depressed and the therapist tells him to see this amazing performing clown. That'd make him laugh and cheer him up, and the guy's like...'But I AM the clown.'" He gave a small shrug at the idea. Maybe it didn't quite relate, but he could understand the special disappointment related to father. "So...guess it makes sense your dad isn't the best at it. Doesn't make it suck any less though." He reached across to the Newton's cradle near the corner of the desk, setting it off. His dark eyes followed the back and forth of the clacking metal balls. "I don't have the best relationship with my dad either. He's in prison, actually."
Going to be working on some drafts to throw in the queue. The past week has been hella busy and i'm in the middle of six day stretch at work now. I persist despite the horrors - probably Edward Munson.

A smug smile swelled from the previous smirk, and as he ATTEMPTED to usher her out, she stayed ROOTED to the spot. Oh no, this was far more fun than she had expected it to be. ❝Now wait just a minute. - ❞ The blonde cocked her head to the side and SLOWLY made a show of looking around the small trailer. ❝I'm not in any HURRY. And besides, you haven't offered me the grand ... well the TOUR.❞ It wouldn't last long, that much could be for sure, but she kept any SNIDE comments to herself and began to take a step TOWARDS where the kitchen lay. ❝Is this your room back HERE?❞

➫ STEVE smiled at his victory over the other, bringing out his wallet and filling the till while the receipt printing away. He counts the money before tucking it away and giving the drawer a nice firm close, before turning back to his long haired beauty. He tried not to smile too much, though there was no one around so he genuinely felt safe enough to make love sick looks. The jock can’t remember the last time they had a night just the two of them, without a kid or Uncle Wayne, or a stupid work schedule getting in the way.
“Unfortunately, a little after midnight. Robin had the day off and Keith is in the back. He’s probably stoned and napping at the moment..” His words trail off as he turns his head to the break room door. He wants to reach out and hold hands with the metal head, to have some sort of contact that’s not awkward and friendly in a way that’s completely opposite how he feels. Steve is so eager and confident in his attraction to the other, if not for the fear of getting caught, causing more harm to Eddie than he already had gone through, he would reach over this counter and kiss him. Fuck the consequences.
But he’s protective of him, Steve will never let anything harm him, ever again. Hazel eyes come back to meet the others gaze and his own softens, if this is all they could have now then he would take it. “Can I.. do anything else for tonight? For you?” Hands play lightly on the counter, inching closer and yet trying not to be too obvious.
Eddie knows that little smile, how Steve relishes in doing something nice for him. Eddie isn't used to being doted on and spoiled. Sometimes, it's difficult to let go, to let Steve take care of him in these ways. The tapes tonight are a small way of relenting. His gaze follows the turn of Steve's head, silently noting how Keith is holed up there and either out like a light or stoned out of his gourd. He knows the kind of shit Keith smokes. He buys it from him. They're practically alone as Eddie then turns to look behind him and out into the parking lot. There's no new cars or warning flashes of approaching headlights. Eddie gives a coy tilt of his head and starts to reach across the counter, clasping one of Steve's antsy hands in his own. "No, Mr. Harrington. You've provided me with excellent customer service today." There's a beat of silence, and it's punctuated with a hard, fearful pang of his heart that seems to shake his whole ribcage. Using his grip on Steve's hand and the counter as leverage, Eddie hurriedly leans in and steals a kiss. It's over and done in the space of a few seconds, and his lips tingle as he pulls away, wanting for more but not daring to risk it. "I'll wait up for you," he promises with a small smile and swipes the tapes from the counter, scampering out into the night air before Steve can fully react and draw Eddie back.
