SPIN TAB

This is an experiment setup for measuring and harnessing ENERGY in a café setting. Why Port Dickson? The water resources, wind, and sun is already providing an opportunity for us to do something for the environment. This is to experiment on self-generating energy and GBI as well to increase awareness of energy usage and efficiency.

Each customer is given a card and every spending of RM10 at the café will reward the 100 energy credit. Customer can spend the energy credit for services/charging of gadgets. To activate power at seating station, users are to slot in their Ecard. To save on Ecredits, user can harness their own energy (kinetic) either using the bicycle pedal or treadmill charging counter.

Coming into the entrance brings you first to the ordering counter and the seating system which allows you to choose available seats and views around the circular staircase. Each seating provided with ipad and charging device for the customers for convenient ordering service and to remind the reuse of electricity into our daily life. Take away services are also provided with seating next to the entrance whereas family seatings are located next to the counter.

Conveyor belt serves as the main function provides dessert choices for the customer to choose from, like in a sushi restaurant. Dumb waiter is installed at the corner of the café for sending up orders to first floor by using a pine wood food trolley for convenient self-services to reduce human resource. The vending machine provides fresh filtered water from rain water harvesting; customers are allowed to purchase with coins or to use their Ecard for drinking water. This is not only an energy harnessing, communication space but also a recycling space. Recycling bin and recycling rubbish shoot are opportunity to raise awareness for a recycling campaign.

The café structure is made out of regional material recyclable ecofriendly fiberglass. Despite the high cost, fiberglass can be easily molded into any desired shapes.  Fiberglass canvas are used as envelop around the structure for temperature control, glare control, and ventilation control. GBI usage is a major part functioning in this structure. Green roof insulation, louvers and home grown plants keeps the structure cool for comfort. The indoor greenscape and water feature serves as a cooling ventilation, to grow herbs, local organic product, rain water harvesting, and to harness energy. Irregular shaped open windows structured allows cross ventilation and stack ventilation for cooling effect and flexible amount of fresh air as well. The design also installed North American Black Walnut flooring to bring out the nature within.

The energy harness and usage are keeping track on smart sensor and live update energy chart located with light indication near the cashier so that the amount of energy used are in control. Technologies installed might seem to be high in electricity usage but with the amount of natural resources from solar and wind harvesting, there is also a method of conserving electricity to power the structure. Energy saving mode using kinetic energy which is bicycle paddles situated under the table allows customers to power the conveyor belt once it stops after 45 minutes to reserve electricity for dumb waiter, gadget charging, music, lighting and air conditioning.

Spin tab allows locals and as a tourist attraction to expose, enjoy and explore more on innovating natural resources implying into the next generation and to reduce global pollution.
