The Sacred Loneliness of the Spiritual Path
One of the quiet truths I don’t think we talk about enough is how lonely the spiritual path can be.
Not because we’re surrounded by no one. Many of us have families, partners, coworkers, and friends. We can spend an entire day around people and still feel a kind of loneliness that has nothing to do with physical presence.
It’s the loneliness of longing to be deeply known.
To have conversations that wander beyond the weather and the news. To sit with people who wonder about consciousness, the soul, dreams, death, love, mystery, and what it truly means to be alive. To walk through a forest with someone who doesn’t just see trees, but living beings worthy of reverence. To share silence without needing to fill it.
Sometimes I wonder if even that longing is a subtle form of ego. Is it simply a desire to find people who see the world the way I do? To be understood? Maybe it is. Or maybe it isn’t. Perhaps it’s simply part of being human. Maybe we aren’t meant to walk entirely alone, even if solitude has something to teach us.
I think many spiritual people know this feeling.
For a long time, I believed what I was searching for was community. And in many ways, I still am. I long for genuine connection—for people willing to be vulnerable, curious, and awake to the mystery of life.
But somewhere along the way I began to realize something else.
Solitude isn’t simply the absence of community.
Sometimes it’s where community begins.
When the world grows quiet enough, we begin hearing ourselves again. Beneath the noise of expectations, opinions, and endless distractions, there’s a deeper voice waiting. Call it intuition. Call it the soul. Call it Source. Whatever name you give it, it’s the place that remembers who you are beneath everything you’ve been told to become.
I’ve come to believe that we’re all threads woven into the same tapestry.
No thread exists by itself. Every life touches countless others, often without ever knowing it. A kind word changes someone’s day. A teacher shapes generations they’ll never meet. An ancestor’s courage echoes through descendants they’ll never know.
We are already connected.
The tragedy is not that connection doesn’t exist.
It’s that we’ve become so distracted by separation that we’ve forgotten how to recognize it.
Modern life often encourages us to think of ourselves as isolated individuals—our success, our happiness, our identity. We learn to protect ourselves, compare ourselves, and compete with one another. Somewhere in that process, it becomes easy to forget that we belong to something much larger than ourselves.
Maybe that’s why authentic connection feels so rare.
Not because it is impossible.
But because it asks us to remember what we’ve forgotten.
I’ve stopped seeing loneliness as something that needs to be defeated. Instead, I’ve started seeing it as a quiet invitation.
An invitation to return to nature.
To return to stillness.
To return to the deeper current that has always been flowing beneath the surface of ordinary life.
Ironically, the more I’ve rooted myself there, the less alone I’ve felt.
Not because I’ve suddenly found hundreds of people who think exactly as I do. I haven’t.
But because I’ve begun to notice connection everywhere.
In rivers that have watched generations come and go.
In birds who greet the morning without worrying about tomorrow.
In ancient trees whose roots intertwine beneath the soil, sharing nutrients in ways we cannot see.
In strangers whose brief kindness changes the course of an ordinary day.
In ancestors whose lives still ripple quietly through my own.
The world begins to feel less like a collection of separate things and more like one living conversation.
I still long for community. I don’t think that longing will ever disappear. Perhaps it isn’t meant to.
Maybe it’s part of what calls us toward one another.
Part of what reminds us to build spaces where people can show up honestly, ask difficult questions, and walk alongside one another without needing to agree on everything.
Because I don’t think awakening is something we do entirely alone.
We need each other.
Not to complete us, but to remind us of what has always been true.
That beneath all our different stories, beliefs, and identities, we are threads of the same tapestry.
And perhaps the deepest purpose of genuine connection isn’t simply to make us feel less lonely.
Perhaps it’s to help us remember that we were never truly separate in the first place.
Self Adoration and Beautifying the Spirit
A short while ago, I was part of a little online community that was run by a witch out on the East Coast who founded a Heritage Witchcraft school. It was just a forum for discussion, really, that attempted the bring the faery arts back into witchcraft. I became a little disillusioned by it, but at the time I needed it to be around. I learned much of the faery while I was part of the forum, and dove deep into the connections between myth and witchcraft. I made connections that the head did not necessarily want me to connect. He was high neo-platonic, which I think is what made me walk away. That, and I learned that he wasn’t a very good witch, to be honest. Alas.
In this forum, we talked a lot about the familiar spirit. What is the familiar spirit? Where did it come from? How can I obtain it? I’ve answered many of these questions on this blog, and as I have progressed in my studies, I have gleaned more information about the familiar spirits.
One of the first things I learned was that we must beautify the spirit. In the forum, this was explained as spirit shaping: shaping the spirit, the self into our ideal form in order to attract the familiar spirit-lover. This is not incorrect, but it was explained in a way that I think is unhealthy. We were told to model this ideal form after the magician card: beautiful, powerful, alive with magic, touching heaven and earth. This is all well and good, but it raises a lot of questions. What is beauty? Whose beauty are we discussing? Society’s? Our own? Is our own concept of beauty marred by society?
I began to realise, that, yes, this concept of beauty is flawed by our own complexes. I talked a lot with the Urban Shaman about these ideas. They told me that in shamanism, the shaman accepts themselves for who they are, and becomes whole in themselves. This sounded harder to work on. I wanted to be big and strong and sexy, not thin and wiry and pale. I realised that I was imprinting a concept of beauty of myself that was not -me-. And, to be honest, it attracted the wrong spirits.
I began to feel such doubt in myself. I wasn’t alive with my own power anymore. I wasn’t -me-. I was becoming someone else.
I began to look hard at the myths about facing the shadow, and battling with demons in the night battles. Of reconciling our differences within ourselves to create something more beautiful. To reach our Other. The faery lover is attracted to us in our WHOLENESS, not in our augmenting ourselves to fit a standard. I realised that I wasn’t facing my demons, I was covering them up, sweeping them under the rug.
That is what work with the fetch is. When the fetch and the self are wed, then the Other appears. They burst out of the top of us like a bird to flight, chased by the serpent below. It is long, hard work. It is frightening. It is really looking at yourself. Beautifying the spirit is becoming whole in spirit. It is Self Power. Not power over others, but power of the Self. It is assurance of the Self. Confidence. Nothing is sexier than confidence.
I’ve been ignoring my Fetch too much. I think that is why I have been having so many night terrors. I’m not giving in to my primal needs. Fetch wants to be fed. With sex, and food, and dancing, and feeling. With the Red.
“The Night is also a Sun.”

wrong. Divine.
These are the times our traditions were made for.
No, not as an escape from the world...
But to show how the world could be.
Keep circling. Keep dancing. Keep holding community.

The Devil and Witchcraft
(In response to someone’s blog post, but I thought I would post it for the rest of you, too.)
The Devil, that Old Spry Goat, is, basically, central to witchcraft. We can not escape him. We are eternally tied to him, and he to us. It is impossible to not be connected to him in the minds of cowans.
Now, to traditional witches the Devil is not an entity of evil. He is nature itself. Cruel at times, but also beautiful. Constantly shifting, turning, churning. As witches, we learn to read his signs, and know what is coming so that we can avoid it. In this we are both servant and master of the Devil.
He is the antithesis of the Christ. Where the Christ is compassionate to all, the Devil is compassionate to few. Where the Christ suffers, the Devil rises above and thrives. Where the Christ suppresses, the Devil liberates. Where the Christ is a Lamb, the Devil is a Goat.
The Devil is Nature. In the bible it is stated that he is the Lord of Earth. It was believed by early Christians that Nature was evil, and of the Devil. Which is why the Mormons destroyed Utah. Sigh…environmental history.
Anyway, the pagans revered nature (late animists, you know). Witches are of nature, and give in to natural pleasures. Therefore: they were connected with the Devil. They also confessed to be in league with him, so there was that, too.
The Devil also freed us from our mindless enslavement. In many traditional witchcrafting traditions, the Serpent of the Garden of Eden is revered, and upheld as the Liberator of Mankind. To quote the late, great Chumbley:
“Eat of the Forbidden Fruit, and ye shall be as Gods! Eat and ye shall be Wise! Said the Serpent unto the Maid…”
And Ouspensky on the Devil card in the Tarot says:
“And I heard the voice of the Devil: ‘I am Evil,’ he said, ‘at least so far as Evil can exist in this best of worlds. In order to see me, one must be able to see unfairly, incorrectly and narrowly. I close the triangle, the other two sides of which are Death and Time. In order to quit this triangle it is necessary to see that it does not exist.
‘But how to do this is not for me to tell. For I am the Evil which men say is the cause of all evil and which they invented as an excuse for all the evil that they do.
‘They call me the Prince of Falsehood, and truly I am the prince of lies, because I am the most monstrous production of human lies.’”
Many who revere the Devil know he does not exist. Or, rather, can not be worshiped, or summoned, invoked, et cetera. He exists, surely, in an animistic way. He is a spiritual concept. An idea to rally around. But, he is also nature, and our natural selves. If we do not tend him, feed him, give in to him, and learn to control him, we will be controlled by him. As witches, we must understand the Shadow. We must dance with the Devil in Pale Starlight, become him, if we must, in order to control how he affects our lives.
We are witches. We should have no fear of concepts like “eternal punishment”, or “the devil coming to steal our soul”. Or even of the big man upstairs. The Devil defies him, and so do we. Witches defy the civilized order of things. Ah! To quote the beautiful Jack Parsons:
We are the witchcraft […] We are on the side of man, of life, and of the individual. Therefore we are against religion, morality and government. Therefore our name is Lucifer.
The Devil is the Great Liberator. Drink from the horse’s hoof, and praise his name, and he will never have need to harm you. To be a witch is to be of Him, whether you like it or not. Might as well give in, and pass through the Shadow to the Light.

I agree with the message but?! this is tone deaf coming from one of the elitist, most prestigious fashion events in the world. you are rich to even be invited, an event where the ticket is literally $30,000.... I’m gonna eat YOU
None of you people understand the actual reality of how much the ultra-rich hoard. Aoc is not even a blip on the radar of rich. Aoc grew up poor in the bronx and continued to work as a bartender while she was on the campaing trail.
Is she wealthier than the average person? Yeah. No shit sherlock. But does she qualify...as RICH?? My fam...my guy....my bud.....the answer is simply No.
Aoc wants to tax the 1%. The people who can afford to buy space programs, influence elections and send countries to war.
She is not referring to...like....lil nas x here. Shes referring to jeff fucking bezos.
Please learn the difference between BEING WEALTHY (aoc) and being RICH (bezos, gates, etc)
For the love of god. SHE DIDN’T PAY FOR HER TICKET!!!!! OR her dress!!! She was invited by a designer who fucking paid for all of that shit!!! This is SO embarrassing!!!! Do you guys not fact check ANYTHING you read?? This is your level of critical thinking skills??????????? Yeah working class hero AOC paid $35k to go to a rich person costume party in a dress that said Tax The Rich and at no point did she or any of her staff think “hey maybe paying $35k to do this will make u seem like a hypocrite.” Of COURSE THAT’S NOT WHAT HAPPENED!!!!! This is literally LITERALLY what they are playing on Fox News right now you are all literally regurgitating right wing propaganda without a thought in the world. Please for the love of god when you see something that seems ridiculously out of character or doesn’t make sense, FACT CHECK IT!!!!
The absolute level of stupidity some people have on this site, I swear… how you gonna sit there and put effort into typing unfounded accusations towards someone, then also put effort into finding regular and meme imagery to go along with the misinformation you just typed out, instead of spending 5 seconds Googling something?
