The faction was his own child in a way, built and sculpted to his design. At time he’s even convinced that he’s the only one who actually cared for the Order as much as he did. Neither Ren nor Snoke were there in it’s lowly beginnings, but Hux was. He grew with it – when the Order expanded, he grew in height. Hux didn’t understand it but his self-worth has always been intrinsically tied with his perception of his military success, as the Commandment had molded him to be. There was always the desire to create a legacy that outlives him, but his main concern was to be the one to bring order to the planet and stars – to have it all under his control and jurisdiction. In fact, Hux believed that he was saving the galaxy from itself ( well, rather, putting it in the right hands, as he sees it ) – from the chaos of the resistance and placed under the protection of the most technologically advanced army anyone had ever seen. When the First Order crumbles, it will be the end of it’s namesake; Order will deteriorate with it.
And yet at the end of the day found himself worrying about Amalie and his unborn child more than he did about the fate of his regime. It didn’t help that he thought he saw her wander into the common area.
Jade eyes narrowed. It was her, and in the next few moments he found himself stumbling to her on weary legs, but stopping at a farther distance than he would have liked to be. Upon closer inspection she didn’t appear as ill as he did, and it filled him with some relief but in time it would worsen. He didn’t even know how it would affect the child growing in her. “Amalie, what – what are you doing here?” His voice is hoarse and a disparity seems to make its way into his words despite his efforts. The urge to reach over and hold her was strong, but he stopped himself from committing to the impulse, afraid to touch her. “…I thought the virus was contained at the very least, how did you…”
the very person amalie wanted to see most was the one person who she had stumbled across initially. her heart broke at the sight of him; it was almost more painful without the glass between them. she was able to see him in more vivid detail now. the dark ( darker than usual ) circles, the weight loss, the sunken features. even the way he walked in her direction broke her heart, and amalie had to take a deep breath to avoid crying at the very sight of him. luckily he stopped decently far away, but amalie was still leaning in his direction as the dread overtook her. while all she had was a mere cough and a slight fever, he appeared to be diminishing by the day. when she stumbled across him, drunken and emotional, he had still looked better than he did now, sober and aware. the misery in his tone at the sight of her broke her heart, and again she felt frustration towards rey for infecting her so quickly. it was not her life she feared for, but their child’s. she was carrying it, and was responsible for staying healthy for it. she could only hope they found the cure quickly, before her condition deteriorated.
“a-armitage...” she choked out, shaking her head slowly and stepping forward before pausing again as he spoke. it was painful to have to admit to him, and she worried immensely for the amount of stress it would add to him. but all she could do was be there for him, and hold him, which so often calmed him after long, stressful work days. perhaps it would work now. she moved forward again, speeding up gradually, and eventually jumped slightly into his arms, clutching onto him like a lifeline. she knew she needed to tell him before he got too panicked, so slowly she pulled back, still remaining in his arms, but looked up into his eyes and breathed shakily. “...rey escaped... she came to find me, and begged for the plans... i-i had to give them to her, i thought she could find the cure sooner... i needed you back with me...” she whispered, holding him tighter before swallowing then continuing. “we spoke for a minute or so... but i woke up tonight with a cough... with a few of the symptoms... i-i put myself in here before i could infect anyone myself...”
