To run with you
The Last Unicorn (1982), as seen on my 1999 CRT TV
This is a personal piece for me. When I first learned about my cancer diagnosis, this scene from The Last Unicorn came to mind. Amalthea realizing her own mortality and I too felt like my own body was rotting away.
I wanted to redraw this scene. I drew her uglier and made her cry because that was me: I was just sobbing and gross and mourning my own decaying flesh. It was human, just like she was in this moment.
Finally after being in remission for two years, I can draw this piece and share it. I am glad that I am here drawing and sharing my thoughts.

Hi. If you happen to revisit the last unicorn again, I hope to see your illustration (or a sketch) based on this scene?
“Then the Lady Amalthea smiled at him for the first time since she had come to stay in King Haggard's castle. It was a small smile, like the new moon, a slender bend of brightness on the edge of the unseen, but Prince Lír leaned toward it to be warm. He would have cupped his hands around her smile and breathed it brighter, if he had dared.”
It’s basically saying he would have kissed her, but in a more poetic way.
Your arts are beautiful and really amazing 😭
yeah!!
Does it make you happy?

the unicorn lived in a lilac wood, and she lived all alone
Fan art for one of my earliest influences and still a great movie.

I imagine that the Last Unicorn still has nightmares about what it feels like to be trapped in a human body…
