The Worst Tarot Cards Give the Best Advice
Some find it confusing when a difficult card falls in the advice position. Death is not asking you to die. But the Five of Cups wishes you would cry.
Death
Purge your soul of what no longer serves you. It will only be more painful if you wait for life to force you.
Three of Swords
Acknowledge your pain. The wound will fester if you keep denying its presence. Healing begins only with acceptance.
The Devil
Dive into it with all your might. Do not go gentle into that good night. It will all be worth the fall.
Five of Cups
Cry till the tears run dry. Till the darkness has gone, leaving only the light. Then turn around for a wondrous sight.
Two of Swords
You will never be completely certain. No one is in life. All you can do is follow your heart. It will lead you to what is right.
Five of Wands
There is a time for peace. But it is not today. You have to fight for your beliefs. Let nothing stand in your way.
Seven of Swords
Leave your morals at the door. This is no place for principles. What matters is survival. Time to think like a criminal.
Ten of Wands
You are walking through fire, and the pain is unbearable. But give it one more minute. The hurt will all be worth it.
Eight of Swords
You look at yourself and see a prisoner. And yet the ropes are loose and the lock is open. Stop acting the victim.
Five of Swords
So you lost. Cry for a while. Then dry your eyes and try again tomorrow. No need to drown in sorrow.
Nine of Swords
Turn your fear into fuel. Do not sit there waiting for destruction. Fight with all your might to escape annihilation.
Five of Pentacles
If you bother to look up, you will notice a shelter. Enough with the self-pity. Time to outsmart the weather.
Nine of Wands
As things stand, it is not safe for you to love. This is not the time to fall. Protect your heart, and build a wall.
Ten of Swords
Some pains demand to be felt. So feel them. Give them their deserved recognition. Then banish them to oblivion.
The Tower
Let it end. Watch calmly as it comes crashing down. You have to eradicate the old before you can build a new town.

Simple Shoe Execration Heka
Dunno if you guys know this, but one of the things that Egyptians liked to do back in the day is put images of bitches they hated on the bottom of things.
Walking sticks (according to Wilkinson), shoes, the legs of chairs, you name it.
Essentially, when you push the item down, or drag it across the floor, you’re smiting whomever is written on there or depicted there. So if I were to write my enemy’s name on my shoes, I would be effectively stepping on them and squishing them every time I take a step.
Enemies don’t have to be people, though. They can be more abstract than that- things like depression, self doubt, debt, anger, etc. Just like any other form of execration, you could write anything that you want out of your on the bottom of your shoes (or whatever).
Simple and quick heka for you to experiment with.

2020
Aries / Aries, this year will not only be fulfilling, but monumental. This past year tugged you around and showed you the ropes and transformed you, but this year will be the catalyst for what you wish to achieve. You will embark on many different journies and trails to become who you are and it will make you different in the end, but better.
Taurus / Taurus, although this year you may have felt lost and unsure of where to go next, you still made it and feeling proud of yourself for that is not a shameful thing. However, this year will bring a lot of closure for you in a lot of things that have made you feel lost and uncertain of who you are. You will be on a journey of self discovery this year, and a lot of your questions will be answered. You just have to be patient an enjoy the ride.
Gemini / Gemini, this past year might’ve been a roller coaster for you, with a lot of ups and maybe a lot more downs than anticipated. However, this year will be all about self love for you. Learning how to take care of yourself and trusting yourself to get through even the hardest of situations. It’s not an easy task to become your own best friend, but this year you will realize that you are the only one who is stuck with you for the rest of your life, and you will find peace in that.
Cancer / Cancer, this year threw a lot at you and you may have had more successes than you realize. This year, your main focus will be to acknowledge how far you have come and embrace where you are now. Sometimes you may get lost in a seeming failure or something you might’ve done wrong, but you have to stop yourself in your tracks when you do this. This year will show an abundance of strength for you, and you will learn how to manifest it.
Leo / Leo, this past year may have felt really long for you, maybe because there was a lot packed into it, or maybe because there wasn’t enough. But now, you’re running towards everything you want this year, full force. Nothing can stop you. You will learn the drive within you and how abundant it is, and just how much you can take. Sprinting towards your dreams and everything that you want, you will not let anyone or anything stop you this year. You’ve had enough pain, it’s time to let the light in.
Virgo / Virgo, I sense that there was a lot of change for you this year and it may have knocked you down a little. This year, you will learn to accept that change and see it as an opportunity. You see, the bad things that happen to us are sometimes blessings. Although things can be hard, that doesn’t mean nothing good comes out of it. You are going to see the light at the end of the tunnel this year and it’s going to give you hope again.
Libra / Libra, this past year may have been transformative for you. You may feel like a different person than you were at the start. This year, you’re going to push away things that aren’t meant for you. You’re going to accept love as pure and innocent, instead of toxic and degrading. You’re going to learn what is best for you and in your life. You’re only going to accept things that bring you joy.
Scorpio / Scorpio, your passion and drive is undeniable and can be seen by everyone. However, it’s just as important to know when to slow down and take time for yourself. This year you need to focus on not going so fast, taking time to smell the roses, and enjoy the moment. This may be hard for you, but it is an essential key for your happiness. You’re so used to working hard and making things happen, but everyone gets worn out from time to time.
Sagittarius / Sagittarius, you might’ve had some big wins and changes this past year. I want you to remember those and feel pride in yourself. This year, you’re going to look back and the past and work through things that you’ve been ignoring. This is important for your growth, to acknowledge these things. They’re not going to feel bad and toxic anymore, but part of who you are and you’re going to embrace that more than ever. It’s important to look back sometimes and work through new things.
Capricorn / Capricorn, this year may be a big one for you. Everything you work hard towards will finally have meaning and you may be offered big opportunities. This is your time, don’t belittle the things you have done and remember just how hard you have worked at becoming who you want to be. It’s easy to get lost in it, embrace it as it comes.
Aquarius / Aquarius, this past year might have been more stressful than previous years. But this year, there will be relief. There will be things that come out of the woodworks for you, and it will be up to you to accept them as they come. Do not be too scared or not confident enough in yourself to do them, you can do anything you put your mind to.
Pisces / Pisces, this year you will realize how much you can help. Maybe with people, in your community, or just in day to day life. You have a natural talent of generosity without expecting anything in return, and that is so special. This year will be rewarding for you to say the least, and you will realize how special you are and how much you are worth to this world. People like you are rare to find.
gentle reminder: you are very capable and I’m excited for your future
slightly less gentle reminder: you do have to work for it
Hi, I hope your night has been relaxing. I wanted to know what spread you use daily? Or what you would recommend to other tarot readers who want to use their cards everyday. Thank you for your time.
Tarot Spreads I Cannot Live Without
Yearly
The Major Arcana grand tableau is something I always look forward to on my birthday. It tackles the widest range of subjects about my life and shows me a snapshot of my whole year ahead.
Weekly
I do the Celtic Cross every Sunday at midnight without fail. The cards always manifest, but not necessarily in ways I expect. The foresight gives peace of mind; the uncertainty causes excitement.
Frequently
Whenever I find myself curious about someone’s or something’s future — which could be as often as three times a week or three times a day — I employ the help of The High Priestess spread.
Daily
I do not perform daily draws. I am not in need of such frequent guidance. I do not think anyone is. But when I asked my understudies to do it as practice, they reported getting literal answers.
A day is simply not long enough for any tarot card’s energy to manifest in full. I recommend doing it weekly instead. It does not matter whether you have been reading tarot for 10 weeks or 10 years. Watching your predictions come true one by one will always feel magical for anyone.
A trove of more than 100 small ritual objects and pieces of jewelry has been restored and will soon go on display in Pompeii.
"Archaeologists have discovered an incredible array of amulets, gems, and lucky charms in Pompeii. Researchers think that the mysterious trove belonged to a female sorcerer who could have been a victim of Mount Vesuvius more than 2,000 years ago."

Cottage Witchcraft: Magic in Cleaning
****THIS POST CONTAINS MY PERSONAL THOUGHTS, OPINIONS AND VIEWS ON COTTAGE WITCHCRAFT AND ENERGIES IN ONE’S LIFE AND HOME.****
I thought I might take a moment to talk about cottage witchcraft, keeping one’s home clean and how this creates clean/positive energy. Cleaning, to me, is a form of magic and I use it daily. I am well aware that there is both bad and good, light and dark polarities in life and in regards to energies. I get tired of being in a bad mood though so I thought I might share this one way I try to get rid of the negativity that creeps in on me.
I know that I am uniquely me and my thoughts may not work for you. You may have no issues with stuff lying all over the floors and dishes piling up, but for me I get anxious, upset and agitated if my home is not clean. Those are all negative emotions brought on by a messy house. Cleaning my home brings in a more positive or clean energy for me. It helps me relax and gives me an outlet to get rid of any negative emotions or energies I’m holding onto within. When we first moved into our current home I found myself repeating, “A clean home is clean energy” as I cleaned. I’ve seen similar variants of that in books or online since. I feel like this is important to cottage witches (and perhaps even hearth witches, but I’m making an assumption here). Our homes contain all of our magic. For some of us our entire home is our sacred space so we should treat it with the respect we’d treat a sacred area for an altar or magical working surface. One would keep their altar and the immediate area around it clean and tidy, change out the seasonal decorations and take care of any tools so a cottage which might consider doing the same for their home.
So let’s get onto the fun stuff. I hope I haven’t rambled too much and everything has made sense so far. To sum it up, our homes can sometimes harbor negative energies in physical and spiritual or emotional forms when one lets it get dirty. This post will address how one can get rid of the internal negativity (even if it wasn’t caused by a messy/dirty home) by cleaning the physical.
- Washing the dishes: When I’m washing the dishes I visualize any negativity being washed away and going down the drain. I strongly dislike handling dirty dishes and I get pretty cranky when it comes time to do them so I reserve things that are really bothering me and stir up negativity in an instant when I think about them for the task of doing the dishes.
- Wiping down counters and other surfaces: A counter is like one’s altar table. You want to keep surfaces clean and make sure it’s a work space that’s always ready to use. Rushing around trying to clean things up right before a task (or ritual/spell work) can bring in negative or chaotic energy. Don’t forget about end tables or coffee tables. They need some cleaning too. You never know where you may decide to work on a whim. So when I’m cleaning these things I’m not only cleaning away the physical, but I also imagine myself wiping away negativity or energies that aren’t helping me out. For instance if I’m having a rough time with anxiety I may see myself wiping it away. This section also applies to shower walls and bathtubs as well as anything else one might wipe down.
- Cleaning mirrors: Mirrors generally need a good cleaning every so often so when I clean off the mirror I visualize myself wiping away any negative thoughts I have about myself or any negative ways I may see myself when I look at my reflection.
- Cleaning the toilet: Well, there’s not much to say about this. We all know what a toilet’s purpose is. When I clean it and flush away any cleaning solution for the bowl I visualize negativity being flushed away with it. One could also see it as getting rid of the build of up of waste in their life in the form of negativity.
- Vacuuming: Carpets can keep all sorts of dirt, pests and the like deep within. So when one vacuums they might visualize any deep rooted issues causing negativity being sucked up right along with any physical particles of dust, dirt or what have you.
- Sweeping: This is one most already do on the physical and astral level with brooms for the mundane and besoms (or designated brooms for magical use) so I won’t go too in depth. When you’re sweeping up all the dirt, dust, animal hair that’s been shed and so on imagine yourself sweeping away any negativity. I throw whatever is in the dust pan right into the trash and visualize it being thrown out of my life, but one could also sweep the negativity and dirt out of the front door as well and visualize it being pushed out of one’s life.
- Dusting: This is much like sweeping. One could visualize dusting away any negativity that’s been hanging about for a long while that’s settled into their life. As you dust visualize that negativity lifting and being cleared away.
Once one’s house is clean the energy improves and the energy within them improves as well. At least I notice the improvement within my own home and within myself. Perhaps someone else might find working a bit of magic through cleaning helpful too.

Divining by Smoke
Expanded from my longer post: On Smoke
Capnomancy or libanomancy have been used throughout history by various cultures. There are different ways of interpretation but since documentation is slim, I’ve been going about the process as an autodidact. With a strong connection to plants and an intimate relationship with smoke, I found it to be the most appropriate means of divination. Below is my personal process which is ever evolving as I learn more.
For all readings it’s best to find a place with mostly still air for the most accurate reading. Obvisouly smoke reading shouldn’t be done outside on a windy day, but a place with no air movement is impossible to find so it takes some judgement. Pre meditation is important to relax the mind and body and to focus on what is to be asked. I also may use other plant-derived sources and other pre-divination rituals to help strengthen trance.
Picking which botanicals to consult can depend on the question in mind but my favorite catch all diviner’s blend is: mugwort, rosemary, mullien, yarrow. A blend might be formulated specifically for a question or person, sometimes a single plant ally will be consulted if it is found to be more appropriate most commonly hops: the truth teller. They are burned in the following ways
In a loose blend, over hot charcoal: burns fast, good for quick answers or continuously add blend for longer reading.
As a cone or stick incense.
In a tied bundle; good to pair with a dark bowl to fill with smoke.
As an herbal cigarette; let to burn, not inhaled.
Smoke is easiest to read for yes or no questions:
A rising smoke is a sign of the affirmative while low hanging smoke tells the negative with a few variations for answers inbetween. - this is the most common interpretation in smoke reading.
In depth readings are a little more complex but I’ve found that capnomancy is most helpful in divining “the path”, the smoke tells the journey, so I find it important to frame questions in this mindset. (I’m working on other approaches but so far this has worked the best.)
Reading requires keen observation and intuitive interpretation. I find helpful to jot down notes and/or doodles from the observations before interpretation, but other times the moment is to intense to do so.
Like with yes or no questions, rising or hanging smoke is considered. Direction of the smoke can also be looked at. I use the Sun as a method of interpretation. If smoke lingers towards the east it shows of a begining while the west tells of closure, to the north means focusing on the outward spiral and to the south one should look inward.
Most importantly, the senses are engaged and subtle signs are taken into consideration: how easily burned, density of the smoke, any crackling or sounds from the burning plants, what the smell is like, any patterns or motions in the smoke, direction of flow, does it linger or dissipate quickly, any images seen, are any memories or emotions evoked. These signs are applied to the question or thoughts at hand to form a message from the plant allies or spirits invoked.
I also employ other methods of smoke divination with larger sources such as campfire, bonfire, and chimney smoke. I have always found that smoke helps reveal the unseen and I especially adhere to the New England folk adage that it chimney smoke touches the ground a bad storm is on its way.
