chadwickboseman It is with immeasurable grief that we confirm the passing of Chadwick Boseman. 

Chadwick was diagnosed with stage III colon cancer in 2016, and battled with it these last 4 years as it progressed to stage IV. 

⁣A true fighter, Chadwick persevered through it all, and brought you many of the films you have come to love so much. From Marshall to Da 5 Bloods, August Wilson’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and several more, all were filmed during and between countless surgeries and chemotherapy. ⁣⁣

It was the honor of his career to bring King T’Challa to life in Black Panther. ⁣He died in his home, with his wife and family by his side. ⁣

The family thanks you for your love and prayers, and asks that you continue to respect their privacy during this difficult time. ⁣⁣

“In the US, murder is the third-leading cause of death among American Indian women, the rate of rape on some reservations can be ten times higher than the national average, and Native women and girls are highly overrepresented in cases of missing persons (for example, in Montana, Native people make up 8% of the state population, and yet 40% of the state’s missing girls are Native). A complex maze of jurisdictional policies and institutionalized violence means much of this violence is not only not addressed, but not documented.”

This database is the most comprehensive one, is made with the consent and input of families, regularly fundraises for the families (parents, grandparents, and children) of mmiw, and is inclusive of trans women, and includes indigenous women from areas that aren’t always included in mmiw counts, like Kanaka Maoli and diasporic migrant Indigenous women. 

I cannot vouch enough for the work A.L and her team do for this.

A reminder that the crisis for Missing and Murdered Indigenous women isn’t exclusive to the United States. Racism against Indigenous people runs rampant in Canada and the best place to donate for Canada is the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. Systemic genocide is still happening in Canada, just look at our recent invasion of Wet’suwet’en, which was unceded land and governed by C’ihlts’ehkhyu/the Big Frog Clan when Indigenous people protested the running of an oil pipeline through their lands.
