Amane Yugi and Nene Yashiro

Had this thought whilst replying to a comment on reddit

Amane/Hanako and Yashiro are almost exact opposites. Even their character design colour scheme (Yashiro is very pastel and bright whereas Hanako is dark with red/orange undertones). I think that sort of represents the difference in their mentality/life.

We know that Nene Yashiro only has a year more to live. But Yashiro doesn't know this. Simply put she's just your run-of-the-mill average student. She's quite simplistic and naïve in a sense with the attracted to appearance thing. She's just a normal kid who's going to have her life cut too soon. She'll never be able to achieve her dreams or goals but she'll always BE dreaming and having hopes. On the other hand, Yugi Amane basically decided for himself/ he knew he was never going to achieve his ambitions.

We all know that one scene

I think her dreamy fantasy about good looking boys and just accentuates her state as always hoping for something in the future that will never happen. Yashiro's about to enter the prime of her life as an independent young adult and that seems like the obvious given. But it's not and that's the tragedy in it. It doesn't even cross her mind for a single moment she may not make it into adulthood.

Amane always dreamt of becoming an astronaut, going to space, following his love for science. But,at a younger age than Nene, in middle school he(for some Tsukasa involved reason) knew that having your future as a set path isn't something to be taken for granted. Which strengthens my current belief that Tsukasa was never going to make it into adulthood anyway probably due to an obvious apparent reason such as illness.

Even at the elementary school age he seemed to have some feeling that his dreams might not become true.

I think the contrast between the two is very interesting because Nene Yashiro is not meant to live until adulthood and she isn't aware of it. But Yugi Amane was written to become an adult except he was aware that having a future and being able to live past childhood is not to be taken for granted.
