In Ankara, Turkey, reports of gunfire and tanks in the streets amid “military intervention”

According to Reuters, Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirm stated Friday that “military action has been taken without chain of command” and that there has been “an attempted military intervention” in Ankara, the Turkish capital. Tensions between President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the military have been rising recently. This is a developing story.

Update: BuzzFeed News posted a statement reportedly issued by the Turkish military, in which it announced it has “completely taken over the administration of the country to reinstate constitutional order, human rights and freedoms…”
