Eat, for this is Her Body: Chainsaw Man and the Doxology of Cannibalism
“One day,” Anthony Oliveira writes in “The Year in Apocalypses,” [Jesus’] disciples approached their master while he was silent in prayer and made a request: ‘Lord, teach us how to pray.’“ From here, Jesus teaches them the Lord’s Prayer, what the Catholic Church once called "the summary of the whole gospel”:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Denji is no one’s disciple. When we first meet him, he is closer to how Oliveira describes Jesus himself, “homeless, gleaning for food in the field like a sparrow and relying on the kindness of strangers to put him up, … a man cheerfully resigned to powerlessness.” And so, Denji doesn’t need to be taught how to pray. He has always known. Every bone in his body at the opening of Chainsaw Man sings out the Lord’s Prayer: “forgive me my debts”, “deliver me from evil.” And, of course, Denji is intimately familiar with the prayer’s most pitiable, most powerful line. It’s this line that he cries out to Makima when he rests, Pieta-like, in her arms at the end of the first chapter. It can only be this line, one that Denji might have written himself:
Give me, from this day forward, and for all the rest of my days, daily bread.
fonda lee got legit bullied and suicide baited for talking about the bookstores showcasing disparity in the pub industry and no one here cared but maggie gets professional criticism for her covers and book choices from teens on twitter and legit issues with rep and decides not to write books invokes outrage,,, we know<3
Maggie got death threats and doxxed and had her kids lives threatened. So I’m sorry what? Also pretty sure that Maggie is more well known on tumblr than whoever Fonda Lee is? I’m sure if Fonda Lee had a larger fan base, I’m sure plenty of people would have come to her rescue?
Like you’re comparing authors that not everyone knows about? Do these fandoms even intersect much? I think I just heard of the Green Bone Saga like three days ago and didn’t even know the author’s name till I googled just now?
What does Stief defending herself after being actually harassed/threatened have to do with another author’s experience? Has Fonda Lee talked about this? Does she have a large fandom? I mean you’re comparing one author who has 93,000 followers to another author who has less than 600? Or on Twitter where Stief has 137k and Lee has 22k?
How are these in any way comparable when one author has been in the book business since 2008 and is decently well known and the other has been in the business since 2016 and isn’t well known? Not to mention the vast disparity between American marketing and Canadian marketing? Not even to mention all the stuff Stief does for fans that, from what I can tell, Lee doesn’t do (not saying Lee has to do personal bookplates and thousands of hand signed pieces of art and music and tarot cards but Stief has always interacted with her fans in ways many YA authors don’t put the time or effort into doing and that’s certainly built her a better and more personal rapport with her followers).
Lee’s lack of support doesn’t automatically invalidate the shit Stief has dealt with over the years.
?????
I don’t get arguments like these. They literally make no sense. Compare a more popular POC author to Stief and then it’ll be valid.
congratulations you literally just proved op’s point right!
man. in between an asian author and a white author, who do you think will receive the biggest negative impact when it comes to harassment? fonda lee spoke in favor of broadening the presence of marginalized authors among bookstores. she spoke in favor of people she knows rarely get a seat at the table, which till today she still gets heavily harassed for. meanwhile, stiefv*ater throws a (one of many btw) tantrum and immediately sympathy gets thrown her way.
fonda lee has to constantly ask readers not to spoil her arcs because this ALWAYS happens to authors of color. when has this happened at such magnitude with stiefv*ter? by no means is op condoning bullying/harassment, but rather asking you to consider who has always had the upperhand in the industry, who gets to get away with everything. you think the significant fanbase difference is a coincidence? in between both, who do you think will get the most promotion, just by simply appealing to a “default” white audience?
sit back for just one second.
also, didn’t your fave started a petty fight with halsey a while ago? <3
