Trying to normalize kneedle as the spelling for a knitting needle, ostensibly to differentiate it from other, more poky needles, but mostly because I don’t understand why this isn’t the standard spelling to begin with.
Also, I want to call them k-needles to go with k-nights and their big k-nives.
This is my pinned post mostly so that anyone visiting my blog will know I am spelling it that way deliberately.

Little throw rug I made today as part of a stash busting challenge. Had a ball of Bernat Home Bundle left over from a houswarming blanket I made for a friend. It’s a little over 60cm/24” in diameter.

1. What's your blog title from? Amashelle is a name I made up in jr high and it just became my default online persona. This is my knitting side-blog. I also have @amashellewrites where I post writing and worldbuilding stuff. My main blog is @amashelle Echoes of Camelot and was supposed to be all about Arthuriana but I branched out fairly quickly and didn't figure out side blogs til much later.
2. Latest movie? What did you think? A rewatch of a film called Curse of the Dragon Slayer. It is a terrible movie that I love dearly.
3. What are you looking forward to right now? Pathfinder session on Thursday! Really fun campaign coming to a turning point. Excited to see where we take it from here.
4. If you could do anything at all today, what would it be? I would really love to sit outside and work on my novel, but it is raining :(
5. Drink of choice? Flavoured Lemonade. Pretty much any fruity or flowery flavour, but green apple or lavender are my favourites right now.
6. Hair routine? Wash 2-3 times a week with two different shampoos, followed by conditioner. Between washings I do very little with it.
7. Favourite way to travel? Is there another you want to try? I love driving if I'm the only one in the car and can blast dumb 90s music without judgement. I've always wanted to go on a cross-country train trip though.
8. Favourite month and why? I love September because I love the freshness of a new semester, even though I am not in regular school right now; It feels like the real start of the year to me.
9. Favourite time of day and why? Night time. Like 10pm-1am. I am at my most creative, and everything is quiet, and the night air is fresh and cool :)
10. Do you play or follow any sports? Not since my sister stopped figure skating, and even then I only followed her competitions and like 1-2 world competitors. I cannot tell the difference between most jumps.
11. What kind of music has been stuck in your head lately? The Gris soundtrack. I got my hands on the sheet music for the piano arrangements and even though I suck I've been slowly learning to play them, so they're in my head all. the. time. Beautiful pieces though, so no complaints.
12. Dishes or laundry? Dishes.
13. Something you learned recently? TW: human anatomy I recently learned that the urethra is not physically connected to the vagina in any fashion. It's such a small thing, but I didn't take biology in HS, sex ed in North America sucks, and nobody ever thought to mention it. Since everyone knows the male urethra extends into the penis, I just assumed. Stupid, I know, but
14. What would you talk about if you could give a TED talk on anything? Oo... this is hard, because there are so many things... probably something to do with the origins of the Arthurian legend. Or the sorry state of literacy education in NA.
15. Piece of advice you find yourself giving a lot? Relax. Have a treat. Sugar is good for your brain.
16. Piece of advice you would give yourself five years ago? Don't berate yourself for falling down on the good habits. Just call it a day and try again tomorrow.
17. Do you believe in luck and superstition? Do you carry any lucky items or follow any? Not per-say, but I do believe in signs. Like if I'm coming to an intersection and I can take multiple routes from there, I'll take the route based on which crosswalk is open when I get there, even if it's technically the longer path.
18. Are you musical (play any instruments, sing)? Would you ever perform for an audience? I sing reasonably well, I play beginner-intermediate flute, and beginner piano. I have performed for an audience with all three.
19. Write, type or speak? Write or type. I do both every day.
20. What do you wish someone would ask you? Honestly, I'm just happy to be tagged here. I never get tagged for these sorts of things.

I don’t know why, but it’s never occurred to me you could make elves with amigurumi. Did you use a pattern or freehand these? (I am mostly curious about how you got the ears to be so perfect!)

Step 1. chain 2 Step 2. sc 6 in 1st chain. Step 3. In that same 1st chain, 2sc, 1dc- reverse st (take loop off hook, push hook through two loops you pulled the loop through, then pull the loose loop through those two loops)- 1hdc, 2sc. End with slip stitch.
For the other ear i do the pattern in reverse :
Step 1. chain 2 Step 2. in 1st chain, 2sc, 1dc- reverse st (take loop off hook, push hook through two loops you pulled the loop through, then pull the loose loop through those two loops)- , 1hdc, 2sc Step 3. sc 6
Let me know if you need a video tutorial for the reverse stitch part, its tough to explain and idk if there's an official name for it XD But its what makes the pointy ear
AFTER all this, i attached the ears to the head with the long yarn i left after the end stitch. Then i sew the ear a little but against the head so it stays a little flat instead of sticking out too far.

In my quest to try new and interesting knitting techniques, my next stop is double knitting.
Does double knitting have a significant effect on gauge? I feel like it should but also shouldn’t.
Also, does it tend to lay flat despite being stockingette?
What’s the one thing you wish someone had told you when you first did double knitting?
Teaching myself to knit backwards (moving stitches from right to left kneedle) because I saw people saying it was possible. I think I actually like it better than standard? It doesn’t work my shoulder the same way, at any rate (I do English style most of the time).
Anyway. Making this linen stitch cotton face scrubber to test things out, and I think it’s going rather well. No major tension issues, at any rate. I think I have some twisted stitches, but linen stitch makes it hard to tell for sure.

My sunflower mat, to go under my desk chair. The edges were supposed to be a little more wavy, but I don’t hate it enough to redo it atm.
Feeling cheeted because the first tutorial I ever saw on making an i-cord used a full set of dpns, with one stitch on each kneedle, and it was so hard that I’ve avoided i-cords for the past decade.
Recently learned the i-cord bind off.
Realized that tutorial from so long ago was a lie wrapped in stupidity.
Long story short, I just made my first i-cord
(It goes all the way around the neckline)
It took like… no time at all? Every time I checked the length I was shocked at how much it had grown. Like… I am actively thinking of more places to use these now and I hate that I was deprived of them for so long.

the stitches in its clothing make too much sense compared to current ai’s crochet-generation quality. plus the image has none of the usual “tells” of ai. probably real!
Also this is a pretty neat way to tell if something AI or not. Eventually once society crumbles we will have crocheters and knitters be the backbones of our society
So my brand of interchangeable knitting needles went out of business a few years back and I’ve been getting by, but I’m down to only one functional cord and two kneedle sizes are unusable now :(
I am looking to start a new set, but I am a little overwhelmed by my choices.
I am pretty indifferent about material (though I prefer Not Plastic); I care more about the colour selection; I like a different colour for each size, or a whole set in a colour I like (blue maybe?).
My previous set had really stiff cords that were prone to breakage, so something more flexible would be nice.
Any recommendations?

Because someone was asking, and this is something of a repeating obsession of mine, I thought I’d compile a few of my learnings.
Garter stich on kneedles that are 2-3 sizes larger than the recommended size for your yarn
Unnamed stash yarn 7wpi on 9mm kneedles
Moss stitch on kneedles that are 2-3 sizes larger than the recommended size for your yarn
7wpi yarn on 8mm kneedlea
Brioche Waffle:
multiple of 2+selvage, setup with 1 row of all purls (ws) r1: k1, k1below r2: p1, p1below
I did a variation of this worked over 4 rows:
1: k1, k1b
2: p1b, p1
3: k1b, k1
4: p1, p1b
My unblocked example:
This untitled slavic stitch (more of a scale mail sort of look, but cool nonetheless):
English: X - Selvage 3V - Pick up 3 strands from slipped stitches on previous rows and ktog with next stitch --- - Purl | - Knit .\ - slip stitch with yarn in front
even rows are worked in k1 p3 to row 8, then p2, k1, *p3, k1* to last two stitches, p2 for rows 10-16 Rows 2-18 form pattern
