Once a week, I like to showcase the projects that I'm working on. This is a space for me to showcase my skills and take pride in what I've accomplished over the last week. But once a month, I like to showcase the projects that have also been abandoned. To me, it's essential to showcase all aspects of knitting. Last month, I shared a baby blanket and a brain hat as my abandoned projects. This month, I'm proud to share some progress!
First up is the baby blanket. It is a basic stockinette stitch with a garter border. It's knit in panels and then will be sewn together. I've finished three panels and am currently working on the fourth panel! So close to the finish line!
The second project was a brain hat. It's a ribbed hat with i-cords sewn to it to make it look like a brain. I had mentioned in my previous post that I wanted to purchase an I-Cord machine to make it easier to finish this project. I haven't purchased it yet and to be hoenst it's not high on my list of things to do. Here it is still sitting by its lonesome in the bottom of a bin.
This month, I also wanted to share a new project that's been sort of abandoned. The problem with this one is that I randomly get bursts of energy to work on it again. Because of that, it doesn't always feel abandoned. The project itself isn't that hard, but it is time-consuming. It's the Free Bernat Just Keep Knitting Mitered Squares Knit Blanket Pattern. The pattern calls for a bulky velvet yarn, which I didn't have on hand and didn't feel inclined to purchase, as I'm not a fan of bulky yarn, nor am I a fan of velvet. Instead, I used this opportunity as a stash buster!
I had originally bought two skeins of Red Heart Super Saver Ombre in the color Anemone to make myself a sweater. Well, I made the sweater and hated the way the colors were. The ombre didn't work out the way I wanted it to. I frogged it, and it's been sitting in my bin ever since. It's also important to note here that the Bernat Velvet yarn is a size 5, and my Red Heart yarn was a size 4.
About a year ago, I thought that the ombre would likely make a nice blanket since it would have a larger surface area to show off the colors. Thus, the Mitered Squares blanket was born! Unfortunately, the blanket hasn't seen much love and is nowhere near where it needs to be. I'd originally wanted a queen-sized blanket to put on my bed, and now it's just sitting there, barely sixteen inches long. Maybe one day she'll be finished!
