Today we're headed for a historic, record breaking, 39C (102F) in my area and when I say my area I mean the Netherlands. The land of windmills, wooden shoes, Gouda, Vincent van Gogh, tulips, and fucking cement boxes designed to keep the heat in. Cement boxes that have neither AC or ceiling fans. Cement boxes that are stacked on top of each other in cement block neighborhoods where people live in rental apartments that have strict rules about installing proper air-conditioning (as in don't you fucking dare).
I think in a rare twist of fate, I'm actively jealous of all the Dutch football fans who are in the US right now because at least the US has AC. Even if they are in Florida, Texas, wherever—there is AC. Like miss me with the football itself but please, that sweet AC that cools the entire fucking house and keeps even the kitchen a safe space? How I long for it
At home I'm making do with my tiny, portable AC unit in my PC room and a fan that's working alongside it to try and make it through the day. I've brute-forced ice cubes into my spray bottle, I have wet towels and thankfully enough clean water to refill my bottle every hour, but it's uncomfortable because I'm also dealing with brain-anger toward the noise, toward the sensory issues of everything being wet, toward a lack of sleep, toward the idea of being trapped, and toward the idea of suffocating in the heat (hellooo anxiety brain) which overpowers any cool air that blows my way.
Also I started writing this to make some clever, witty point but honestly I already forgot what that was supposed to be so now there's just my whining. Enjoy though!
