The Vulcan Ambassador to the United Federation of Planets, father to Commander Spock, and husband to renowned linguist Amanda Grayson. current inbox + queue: 23
I am Ambassador Sarek. I have been informed that communicating via this public channel will assist me in various aspects of my ambassadorial duties including my approachability, to name one of the benefits I was presented with. My wife, Amanda, has expressed interest in this endeavor and has planned on joining my broadcasts. She is quite excited.
I will be open to your inquiries on the caveat that they are within reason and my and my wife's answering capabilities.
Live long and prosper.
OOC Intro post:
Ask blog for Sarek! Mostly Star Trek: The Original Series (so Mark Lenard's Sarek and Jane Wyatt's Amanda).
Rules:
play nice and be respectful, we're all just having fun here
Sarek might not have been the best father to Spock, but no one's perfect and he's trying and he loves his family (even if he has a hard time expressing it) so please no outright sarek or amanda hate/bashing
Bigotry, homophobia, etc won't be tolerated
mod is teaching themselves golic common script from the VLI, so Sarek can write out responses if prompted!
Right now, mod doesn't have any super hard limits or rules for asks aside from just being reasonable and if something comes up, it will be added here. Otherwise, feel free to do whatever, everyone's in charge of their own internet experience.
Other Info:
Sarek's speech will be normal; Amanda's speech will be green when she joins in
Feel free to ask about Sarek in the mirrorverse! I haven't done much for him yet, but I think it would be interesting to expand on
I have RP friends but for the most part, I'm in my own little corner so feel free to interact with other RP blogs, OCs included and encouraged!
I've been trying to keep related asks/storylines together, but sometimes they get mixed up. rp responses will also potentially be slow due to various reasons, but I am getting the hang of this!
Mod is over 18 and uses they/them pronouns :)

Do you think you Vulcan making-out with your wife all the time shows that Spock *inherited* wasting time looking deeply into his captains eyes.
...perhaps, although I do not believe this habit is an inheritable trait. I am also able to complete my duties while being in contact with my wife, which Spock seems unable to replicate given the nature of your question.
...One of the voices talking a Dr. Cecilia Lykke. A replacement for Dr. Tristan Adams, apparently. I didn't know he died. Van Gelder's doing, no doubt. She sounds proud. Maybe she's the inventor of this new weapon.
...I don't think they know we're here; they just mentioned the Empire will attempt to kidnap Captain Kirk at Eupeithes II. As a— hm.
[The library banks do not have any information on that direct term. However, it keeps asking if Spock means the Neural Neutralizer.]
Their conservation's ended, sir. However, before they cut the connection, Dr. Lykke mentioned something called 'Trellium-D?'
(OOC: continuation of this post)
[Spock strokes his goatee as he considers the best course of action. With the planned attack on Kirk, and the usage of Trellium-D, a potent neurotoxin to Vulcans, it is clear now that their grace period is over, and the Empire has finally traced their activity back to them. Fortunately they have not predicted their earlier than scheduled arrival and departure from Eupeithes II. On the other hand, he had planned to go into hiding within that solar system, which is no longer viable. He needs to find somewhere else to hide.]
Lieutenant Sulu, keep orbiting the planet opposite to them until they leave. Once we are outside sensor range, plot a course for Vulcan. Lieutenant Uhura, you have the conn.
[Spock enters his quarters and, after he has made sure his encryption is secure, calls @ambassad0r-sarek. They have not been in contact for several years, and Spock is not sure where his loyalties lie, but there's no current safer alternative.]
[Sarek is... surprised to see his son's comm number on his screen. They haven't spoken in many years, not since Sarek had accused Spock of betraying his clan by enlisting in the Terran Empire's Imperial Fleet. It was, at the time, a logical yet ill-fated attempt to protect his son from the horrors of the Empire's greasy black stains and unrelenting grip on its servants.
Since then, Sarek had longed to talk with his son, refusing to admit the terror that struck him with every officer executed for insubordination. It was gratifying to see that Spock was miraculously still alive, despite the disadvantages of his dual Vulcan and Terran natures.
Amanda is away on business. The house is empty, his aides gone for the night. Sarek shuts himself in his office, scanning for any hidden devices that may be listening. One could never know with a Terran living under one's roof, despite how much he loved and respected her. Trust, under Terran rule, was a luxury few could afford.
With the door closed and locked, Sarek accepted the call from his son.]
Greetings, Ambassador. Dif-tor eh smusma - that’s what they say innit ?
Erm so yeah. I’m on Vulcan for three days and looking for a good place to get food. Cheap food or - even better - FREE food. A friend told me to go to the places where locals eat but I don’t know anyone in Shi’Kahr so I thought maybe I could call the Embassy ?
- @ensign-tlumi-shai-tellak
Greetings, T'Lumi Shai Tellak. Sochya eh dif and welcome to Vulcan. We are gratified to make your acquaintance. I personally wish to convey the logic of your thoughts, the embassy is here to assist in any way we can.
Shi'Kahr has a large tourism industry, it is only the central most district that contains elements of other Federation cultures, cuisines, and lifestyles. If you are interested in such establishments, a map of Shi'Kahr's tourist district can be found on the front page of the Embassy's archival pages, accessed via a personal PADD.
As for inexpensive local cuisine, there is a large market within Kir province that operates on the first and fourth days of every week. It should be operating during the time you are visiting. The market is approximately 30 meters in length and consists of many local artists, farmers, and other hosted producers. Everything is priced accurately and fairly and substantially less than markets closer to Shi'Kahr Central or tourism-based shops.
I often accompany my wife, Amanda, to this market on the first of the week. We shall attend it tomorrow morning, you are invited to join us if you are so inclined.
Live long and prosper, T'Lumi, and enjoy your stay.
[A message comes through from someone Sarek is unfamiliar with.]
hi!!!!! i’m stuck in medbay and this address came across my device hiiiii!!!!
[The text also includes an inadviseable amount of heart, sparkle, and cat emojis. Clearly, this individual does not know who she is messaging.]
- @ensign-teddy
[Sarek is taken aback by the sheer about of emojis, sparkles, and overall chaos. Despite his initial reaction, however, Sarek knows that it is polite to respond and introduce himself, then allow Teddy to decide how to move forward. Perhaps Teddy was attempting to reach someone other than the Vulcan Ambassador, hence the absurd amount of glitter. Sarek is just thankful that he will not have to attempt in vain to clean glitter out of his carpet.]
Greetings, Ensign Teddy. I am Ambassador Sarek of Vulcan.
If you wish to continue communications with my person, may I inquire as to how you have managed to be 'stuck' in medbay?
Aww, Sarek, technically your boys both took an interest in rock in one way or another! Sybock musically, and Spock physically. Did you or Amanda keep any of Spock's rocks after his fixation faded?
(referencing this post)
I have not connected my sons interests quite so... succinctly, but you would be correct.
Amanda has a shelf in our room with a select few of the multicolored rocks Spock deigned pretty enough to gift to his mother. I myself have three of the larger volcanic crystals in my office that Spock had found among the outskirts of the Mount Tar'Hana. They are slightly obscured by the eggs in my collection, but are still displayed quite prominently.
Terran teens and children often go through phases while they're growing up, such as anime, emo, rebellious, etc (and some people stay like that forever and we especially love those people.)
Did your kids have any phases growing up?
Sybock listened exclusively to 20th century Terran rock and metal music for five-point-four months when he was 17 standard years of age. I believe his preferred musicians were Guns and Roses, Metallica, AC/DC, and Black Sabbath, to name a few.
For three-point-eight years of his life, Spock took a great interest in Vulcan's selection of natural geodes and rock formations. He amassed a large collection, some of which is now housed in storage or donated to off-planet xenogeological research centers, and refused to participate in many activities that did not include, in some fashion, his fondness for rocks. I believe he was 7 standard years of age when this phase began.
Greetings, T'Pring, it is gratifying to see that you are well. How are Sevet and T'Prill? Similarly, how have you fared since the last time we have conversed?
- @ambassad0r-sarek
Greetings, Ambassador Sarek. My parents are in good health of the body and mind, having avoided an influenza outbreak at my father's workplace.
I have fared well, both I and Stonn have been productive both in our professional and personal lives. I trust it is the same for you and Lady Amanda?
That is good news. Influeza is a difficult disease to combat, it is beneficial that your parents managed to avoid it.
It is pleasing to know that you and Stonn have settled and found success in your lives. Amanda and I are doing well; the VSA has recently asked Amanda to give a lecture on Human-Vulcan communication based on one of her earlier academic papers. She is pleased by this, as am I.
Amanda wishes to inquire about a time you and Stonn would be available for tea, if the two of you are amenable to such a proposition.
We would be amenable, and Stonn is quite willing to host it at our household if that is preferable.
I would be fascinated to hear a summary of the lecture if Lady Amanda will oblige me, as I'm sure there may have been some particularly.. controversial, responses amongst fellow Vulcans as it pertains to Vulcan-Human contact.
Perhaps the fifth day of next week at midday? We have also acquired a new animal at our residence, a bearded dragon named Lap, and from your history with animals I am quite sure you would be pleased to meet her.
That arrangement is beneficial, as my residence has become something akin to a zoo. Please give Stonn my and Amanda's gratitude for the suggestion.
Amanda is enthusiastic about sharing parts of her lecture to someone who is interested. She has, quote unquote, "many things to say about my research that aren't appropriate for polite academic settings". She is out of the house at present but wished for me to convey her message.
Amanda and I are both available at midday on the date you have suggested. I shall mark the date on our calendar. We look forward to spending an afternoon with you, Stonn, and Lap the bearded dragon.
Your parents seem very into PDA, did this ever bother you as a child or as an adult?
Most certainly. While it was deemed vaguely appropriate due to the particular circumstances of their union, it was nonetheless quite unusual to show such public affection on Vulcan and therefore became a further source of torment for my peers to use upon me. I do however understand that @ambassad0r-sarek wished to situate my mother as fully legitimate to the eyes of Human as well as Vulcan society, and therefore felt it imperative to demonstrate his affection for my mother most clearly.
...I suspect however that it is mostly because they are rather violently "in love."
It was only logical to ensure that Amanda had at least one individual she could find comfort in on an alien planet, and logical to follow the societal norms of Earth, including the use of PDA to suggest that Amanda had chosen me as a mate.
I am also quite fond of your mother. We are, as you said, 'in love' and your reasoning for our actions is quite correct, my son. I apologize if our actions have caused you negative social interactions as that was not our intention.
Ambassador it appears that another capybara, two cats and three French bulldogs have appeared in your living room!!
[Sarek startles at the aparation of six new animals in his living room, where he had been partaking in some personal reading. Of course, Sarek quickly composes himself: Vulcans do not startle. Instead, Sarek puts aside his PADD and takes in the animals. Three, Sarek could potentially do. Frank may need support in caring for his new adopted litter, at least until they are old enough to sell. The cats... well... Sarek refuses to admit that he has a soft spot for them. The French bulldogs, however, require much more maintenance than the other animals in Sarek's menagerie, maintenance that neither Sarek nor Amanda have time for.
T'Mani may appreciate a more... energetic companion, but that still leaves two French bulldogs that Sarek doesn't have the occupancy for. Sarek sighs. Fortunately, he has a... contact, of sorts, who is particularly fond of the dogs. Sarek opens his PADD again. The animals, for the most part, seem to be content where they are.]
Rosalina, three French Bulldogs have recently fallen into my possession. I am aware of your interest in 'frenchies', as you refer to them, perhaps you would be interested in housing a pair?
I shall gladly take them Sarek!! I’ll pop by your house and grab them seeing as we’re neighbors. Also I thought I saw a cat wandering around your house is this one of the ones that appeared or a new one?
I am gratified to hear of your willingness to host the dogs.
If the cat you mentioned possessed a coat resembling a tuxedo, then it is one that appeared. Amanda and I have named her Orca, after the common name of the Terran mammal she resembles.
The other cat is a silver tabby Amanda named Fish. I do not understand her logic, but I cannot argue the name when it makes Amanda laugh.
Lady Amanda, I apologise if this question seems invasive but I simply must know. Is it true that Vulcans purr? And if so, does your husband purr often?
There have been rumours that someone had heard the Ambassador make a noise similar to purring after a conversation with his son but you know how starfleet gossip can get.
- sincerely, a nosy Lt.
Ah, it is no trouble at all, Lieutenant!
Vulcans do indeed purr, although most of them will refuse to admit to such an illogical behavior, Sarek included. Before Vulcan's reformation, purring was an involuntary expression of happiness or contentment and had a number of documented healing properties. Nowadays, purring is typically reserved for one's bondmate and usually occurs in private.
Purring has also been known as a way for one to self soothe when in fear of pain. Often, Vulcans will purr while in a healing trance and healthy Vulcans will purr around sick or injured Vulcans as a way to help them heal and recover. As such, purring is quite typical for Vulcan hospitals.
I'm off topic, apologies Lieutenant, but Sarek does tend to purr a lot around me and he often purrs after talking with Spock, although I'm still not fully sure if it's a self-soothing behavior or if Sarek is just secretly happy that Spock wants to talk to him.
Either way, I'm glad that Sarek and Spock are talking again. It makes me happy to see them get along-- just don't tell them that I told you! 😉
Waaht if i told u t'pau and i are havjng a bonding ceremony in the fall
Will you come to see us get shacked up
Im buying the fancy cardstock and stuff and i want to know if im sending jnvites
I fear I have not made myself clear in this matter: please refrain from discussing my mother's personal life with me.
As for the ceremony, I would appreciate an invitation. I should like to see who T'Pau has chosen as a bondmate and how she will dissolve her bond with Skon if it is not a secondary bonding attached to her primary bond.
An opportunity has come upon me to attend a formal gala upon Earth, and there is conflicting opinions among my acquaintances as whether to arrive in typical Vulcan, or Earthen formal attire.
I deemed it logical to pose the question here, to receive opinions as to what would be the most appropriate.
In my experience as the Vulcan ambassador to Earth, I have found it logical to dress in traditional Vulcan formalwear. It is much more comfortable than Human formalwear and allows one to present themselves as someone of great power and influence.
Humans are also fascinated by alien culture. It is only logical, however, that you shall look pleasing in whatever attire you decide to arrive in.
Did you guys ever find out who left that romulan ale? Cause that was super creepy.
Ah, the romulan ale.
I have not discovered who left the ale, but I am not particularly concerned. I have theorized that it was left by someone I know well but I have taken no further steps to ascertain their identity.
They have caused no further damage and Amanda and I are enjoying the ale.
We thank you for your concern. Live long and prosper.
