Me, half-Jewish: Fuck the 4th of July. Why should I celebrate a country that houses immigrants similarly to the concentration camps my people were forced to stay in?
Also me, rembering the childhood joy of lighting up the menorah: OoOhH, sparkly fire!!!
You, half jewish: I hate the country that literally is the reason my people weren't wiped out by fascism because I was told to by media, AND I devalue the suffering of the holocaust by comparing those camps to ones PEOPLE CAN LEAVE AT ANY TIME
Also you: No nothing, just idiocy
I don't hate this country, I just feel right now there are some things to be improved.
Also, yes, I know these camps aren't as bad as consentration camps, and I apologies if that bit came off as insensitive to what us Jewish people went to. I mostly just used that as a way to tie in the fact I'm part Jewish so I could make the Menorah joke, because I wasn't sure how many people of other religions would get the joke if I didn't find a way to mention I was part Jewish (Most of my friends don't know what a menorah is).
I understand were you're coming from with people being able to leave when they want, but not the children. They don't have a choice, they just have to wait in slight suffering. Yes, all this could be worse, and it's no were near as bad as the Hallacaust, bit that doesn't make it right either. However, I did make a mistake comparing the 2.
Lastly, on your line, "the country that literally is the reason my people weren't wiped out by facism". Am I thankful to America for saving my people? Absolutley. Even if they joined the war because of Pearl Harbor, they still helped win the war and saved countless lives. I don't think any Jewish person should be mad about that. However, that doesn't mean I can't disagree with other things America has done or is doing. Yes, I'm thankful, but I personally wasn't saved and so I don't owe America my blind love. It's fine if others love America. I do too. I just think there are some flaws to be fixed that make me semi-uncomfortable with the holiday.
