Hi.
Ambient Centre Recommends: Trans Am - Surrender To The Night LP (Thrill Jockey 1997)
When studying my studio mate had a small army of cassettes he had found in charity shops. One had a side A that said 'Greg's Mix' and turned out to be an annoying B-boy mix with lots a wicky, wicky scratching. Side B however, said TRANS AM and nothing else. It turned out to be this album and it got played over and over again. Chiefly because it's just stupidly good fun. If you are looking for something that will make any task a joy, I can't recommend it enough.
Ambient Centre loves: Codeine - The White Birch LP (Sub Pop 1994)
Ambient Centre Recommends: Cleckhuddersfax - Spen Beck LP (Upset the Rhythm 2010)
This is a short album but it really gets the blood pumping. It's not easy music to love, coming on like Oneida guesting on The Trap Door. (My girlfriend still refuses to have anything to do with their first album after her iPod got a boner for Buses and made 'random' a Russian roulette.) If that sounds bad then I promise you that this album is a huge step forward. The years of touring with weird bands from Europe has at once opened up the band's sound and also tightened in the reins. For proof check out 'Stellar's Sea Cow' above, possibly the oddest but most compulsive song I heard in the whole of 2010.
