I have completely isolated myself from people who used to be my closest friends, and it kind of hurts to think about how close we used to be.

I unfortunately can’t give you a definitive answer on this because there is no way to tell if my interpretation is true.

Regardless, I like to think it means Michael has been looking for a soulmate like Tori forever. Someone who would understand him, someone who would appreciate him as a person. It’s similar to how Lucas thinks of Tori as a “dream”, but without any selfish expectations.

However, maybe “forever” is a hyperbole. Maybe Michael says this because Tori always seems so lost. She’s difficult to contact, difficult to communicate with, never says what she means, and is always so difficult to understand. Maybe when he says this, he thinks he has finally found her, finally pulled her out of her loneliness and understood her.
