My favorite female character: Nakiri Erina

This is gonna be a pretty long post so I’ll be breaking it down to 4 parts.

1. I loved her right from chapter 2/episode 2. She was perfect right from then. Her being a tsundere but not exactly the typical kind of tsundere.

She was the most confident and her skills spoke for themselves. I didn’t really mind her failing Soma cause I found it funny and it fit with her character. I didn’t find it to be “bitchy” or whatever. And Soma was being a smug dude anyways.

And her soft side is just HEAVEN. OH GOD. Isn’t she just the fucking best marshmallow. Love the way her face just melts with embarrassment whenever she interacts with Soma. And even before Azami comes, she was starting to warm up to Soma. And the Azami arc just accelerated that.

2. And many people didn’t like the overly mellow and bashful Erina during the Azami arc. I personally enjoyed it cause we got to know about her backstory and hardships and it’s good to see this side of her. And her backstory still makes me cry. The way it was drawn and narrated was too heartbreaking. And then after all that, she decided to ground herself and return the love the PSD people gave her for her PTSD (haha). And she worked so hard to teach them all about Hokkaido.

Just look at her. She’s ADORABLE.

3. Now I’m gonna ignore all the sorina cause I’m talking about Erina but there’s one scene which I can’t ignore. The train scene. She ADMITS that she’s not annoyed by Soma’s antics anymore and that “it’s not so bad”. NO NORMAL TSUNDERE SAYS THAT. And I loved Erina so much more after she said that. She’s becoming more and more honest.

Now. Before the RdC everyone got expelled and she let go of all her pride and CRIED for everyone who got expelled and begged her dad to rescind that. It shows how much she cares about all of them.

4. RdC. Fucking Erina shined in this brighter than a fucking blazar. And blazars are supposed to be the brightest things in the universe. We FINALLY got to see her cook. And her confidence, calmness, anger was PERFECT. It was everything I wanted to see from her and more.

She’s really my favorite female SnS character and my favorite female character in all of anime.

Erina naming her dish after Megumi was perfect to take revenge from Momo. The team battle was perfect cause the dynamic between Soma and Erina was chaotically perfect. I can say so much more. But I have to end it somewhere.

hey! so i was wondering what your thoughts are about people saying soueri is superficial compared to soumegu. i know the manga turned to shit and didn't give even soueri the development it deserved but how's it superficial? lol both ships are good imo and have their own merits and i don't think that soueri has any less merit. if anything at least they're both different but equal. idk.

Honestly their opinions didn’t matter to me at all but since you’ve asked I’ll try to answer it, anon.

Soma x Erina has very different qualities speaking for them that need a bit more explanation. First, there’s the set up: When Soma’s father was talking about having a girl you want to give all your food to, Erina is shown directly after Soma declared he will make her say his food is delicious, aka his goal to cook for her. Panel order IS very important, especially when what we are talking about is what the author is feeling when he is creating this. It was the biggest indication that, in this series where romance is going to be a sub category, the author has in his mind who should end with who.

Second, Erina and Soma are in the same league, or let’s say, they fight more on equal ground than Megumi and Soma do. While Megumi is an outstanding cook herself, Soma and Erina both have an entirely different approach on cooking.

And lastly, Soma and Erina have very similar characters, maybe too similar for some people’s liking, but we have two very strong willed people here, who know very well what they’re capable of, don’t shy away from a fight, are very cocky and come from a professional culinary background.

Erina provides a goal for Soma, he wants her to acknowledge his cooking. Furthermore, she’s given him advice on numerous occasions and he’s seen seeking her out when he wants an opinion he can trust in. While their interactions aren’t as many as Soma’s interactions with Megumi or even Nikumi, most of them are because of Soma. Soma is actively seeking out Erina, for her advice and her opinions, on his cooking, he has a lot of respect for her as a chef, and that certainly count for something.

I think Soma is more in the offense when it comes to Erina. He treats Megumi as a precious friend and defends her honor the way he defends the honor of his father’s restaurant. Erina is not only ‘a friend’, but rather someone he looks up to and thrives to reach, she’s more of a trustworthy senior and provides a goal to achieve, she’s someone he seeks out on his own account. Furthermore, thanks to their similar character traits, they often clash and relationships need conflics in oder to stay dynamic.

I always think that Megumi’s character arc is about her independence and Erina’s is the reverse, about her linking with other people. One learning to let people in and one learning to stand alone. The natural conclusion is very obvious.

I agree that the current arc is meh and BLUE could’ve executed better, but the author MORE than hinted at Soma x Erina in chapter one or two so I don’t get why anyone is surprised that the author chose to focus on their relationship in the finale arc. Personally I think Soma as a character will work better with someone who challenges him and his ideas to be better more than anything else. If he wants to cook to impress her, that’s enough of a basis for the whole 'someone to cook for’.

Find someone who you want to be happy and gives you a reason to cook, Erina gives him one by being someone who can fight back against him and challange him.

So I strongly disagree with whoever person who say that Sorina is 'superficial’, especially if those user has been known as Erina antis since forever. There’s a reason why many people like Soma x Erina as their favorite pairing. Where some would consider Soma x Megumi good I would consider they’re boring, where some consider Soma x Nikumi cute I would consider it shallow in how Nikumi acts especially with Souma involved. You see? If they judge a relationship on good and bad points then they must only read the tamest, shoujo works because they are the ones with the generically good characters and boring ships.

It seems that all our friends who “love” the manga can’t remember one tiny detail

Senzaemon goshdarned told every single Totsuki student this is a dog-eat-dog world. This wasn’t news. He wasn’t fooling anyone. If you have what it takes, you will make it. One of the jewels. Not dirt, jewel. Does that sound like an insult? Why is everyone conveniently forgetting this established fact? Is it so that they have something to whine about? Because if it is that’s petty. Why are you acting like Sen fooled you? Is it because you self-inserted? If you want to whine, whine better. At least whine like an intelligent person.

Also, if your favourite character is side character #3324273837373, then that is your problem. Don’t make it everyone else’s.

My opinion of the last arc and fandom.

I though I wouldn’t write this, but after last chapter and read some posts…well I need to express myself.

First it must say I’m a huge fan of Shokugeki no Soma and sorina, so if you think I’m not being biased it’s okey with me, it’s just my point of view and I’m not better than any of you.

I read few mangas and a of them I could’t finish cause I was bored, can I do it the same with SnS? After rdc…defintely but I like the characters so here I am. But yeah Erina the headmaster of Tootsuki was’t the best idea then we see the rest of the elite see Erina like the 0 seat…and Soma as the first seat I didn’t expect it either but then we see he had various shokugekis between the rest of the seats and he won them.

So yeah our boy deserve it!

After that comes the part of chef noirs (headache) I guess their goal was BLUE with Erina kidnapping and Asahi and Erina bet. I’m not going to extend too much, she agreed with it without knowing the consequences. Then we have the amazing Asahi (sarcasm) {there are villains wich I respect but he? Sorry but no

At least I feel bad about little Asahi.

And with Asahi we “see” the lost of Jou (“see” cause we only see the result) {it still hurt}

Finally BLUE starts, the major competition between world chefs and Soma, Megumi and Takumi are here too.

The rest of the crew?!?! Oh okey it’s just them, well I’ll try to enjoy it.

Megumi won until her fight with Asahi and the same for Takumi versus Erina (he lost) meanwhile we know the purpuse of BLUE and what Mana wants (Erina’s mom).

The mental health of Erina wasn’t the best, I mean her mother wanted to remove her of BLUE.

Soma fight Asahi and he wins

Finally the big battle Souma Vs Erina, Nakiri isn’t herself and Souma decides to give her a special plate.

Well as you can see it wasn’t the best way to do it but we got it anyway.

My best characters are the MAIN ones (Souma and Erina) but I can see why some of you are bitter how the rest of them were treated (me too) but I repeat they aren’t the main ones so…can you tell me a manga where a secondary character recieves the same as a main character? An honest question, I’m curious.

The only characters who you can see on the oneshot were Souma and Erina nobody else.

And some of you think it was Megumi sorry but no.

And anyways you can see her even when she wouldn’t to be (Souma and Jou talk).

But my problem with all of that is why you came here or reddit or twitter, everyday to post bull shit and hate towards a character or Tsukuda, I’m not a fan of how he dealt with the plot BUT I didn’t send hater toward him, people there are limits you can criticize, is normal, but I only see hate during this arc, hate towards Erina for everything she did, for her parents, for her god tongue, for not being herself, for be an ice queen…hate towards Tsukuda for forgotten the other characters, for Megumi loss, for how he treats his own characters and I just want to ask you, do you feel better now? Do you see a change? Is Shokugeki no Soma better now?

And you write paragraphs, aren’t you tired? I mean, I am after write this and it’s my first time. 😅

It was exhausting to come here and see the same bs day after day, maybe it just me but why waste my time only to write hate.

Last

Can I talk about soumegu fans who hate Erina for everything and then they said they’re allowed to have a opinion but then if I made a joke about sorina and soumegu came to my post talking about respect. I wonder what they will say if I write a post in which I hate Megumi.

If you think Senzaemon gathering all the jewels to come butt heads and clash was invalidating how good they are as chefs, you haven’t been paying attention. Point form, because I have the world’s worst headache but need to get this off my chest:

The jewels generation.

He is literally calling them jewels.

The jewels that will clash and fight to sharpen Erina.

That does not mean the jewels themselves aren’t sharpening themselves and each other.

That does not mean they aren’t good chefs.

That does not mean they are being done dirty.

That just means Sen gave more opportunities to people who might have otherwise remained undiscovered.

A chance to join Totsuki.

A chance to have THAT on their CV and resume when they graduate.

Do you know how much that is worth in the real world (in the manga)?

Without Erina, a bunch of your favs from the PSD probably WOULD NOT HAVE MADE IT IN.

And they did because Sen wanted her to grow with the best so that she would never run dry.

So that she would have people to grow alongside her.

So that she wouldn’t have to wander the wasteland alone.

So essentially everybody.

Education.

If they are still fodder, they are fodder because they aren’t good enough, not because the school hasn’t provided the resources to help them be the best they can be.

So admit it.

Y’all just hate it because you hate Erina.

are we not gonna acknowledged how we were robbed off a Jouichiro vs. Soma, for the “Delicious”?

Even though, Soma wanting to beat his father was like….kinda the established end goal? Like….KINDA.

I mean, Erina saying “delicious” was also one of the goals but it was established on third place and it wasn’t even that impactful to begin with, since it was clear that she’s just mostly a Tsundere about his cooking SO.
