If I had a nickle for every Victor Hugo novel that I read that was adapted into a peak musical production I would have two nickles. Which is not a lot but still more precious than anything.
I LOVE YOU VICTOR HUGO MUSICALS❤️💙🤍
Just listened to the Book of Mormon soundtrack again in years- tell me why I can change some few lyrics in "I Believe" and its basically Wiccander in Castle Sloak like-
Do you see the vision
My Social media Hunger Games fic, "Im not Bashing your favs, but it's their fault they died" is coming to an end soon.
So here are my top 10 favourite unhinged "wtf are these bitches on" blog posts from the fic (no particular order). Enjoy Vitara's madness:
No i don't know how to link fics :(
1- "that's what you get for stanning district people."
2- "Cassius Dolittle needs to APOLOGISE to Panem with this mess of an arena. The Games are the only place where nepotism doesn't happen in this country but NOOOO. "
#noneposinthegames #Thepeoplesvictor
3- "Another year of only top 5.. BEING A D1 FAN IS NOTHING BUT PAIN AND SUFFERING."
4- "thank you, something to wake the victors up and get them in shape. Ill tune back in if I get to see my royal (divorced) couple either kick ass or mentor their son or daughter into victory YET AGAIN✌️
LETS BRING ON THIS ALL STAR SEASON"
5- "I need her to find [Peeta] already IT'S BEEN A WEEK. WHY are we continuing with the Long game streak."
[In reply] "Man you and your fucking attention span you're probably watching the games via clips on Vitara."
6- "Edit now- like as soon as we get the footage please."
[In reply] "maybe later I'm still angry at her for killing Marvel (and also sobbing)."
7- all of chapter 89. No seriously just all of it. For context it's called: "AU where no one is dying and everything is fine"
8- "EXACTLY LIKE YOU CAN SMELL THE WHOLE RIGGING THING FROM A MILE AWAY. 12 finally had someone that wasn't a total wuss, Crane knows that Abernethy is probably gonna drink himself to death very soon, so he's like "here's a whole narrative to replace him. Enjoy" NO I AM NOT ENJOYING."
9- "yeah and they showed the mother(?) For a quick second and like.. is Kat whatever adopted or something? 🤔 "
10- "if [Finnick] needed a weapon to become more efficient then he's no true GOAT, just surfing on the crowds approval.
And the only reason he even HAS a victor is because his crowd whore mentality kept Annie alive to the final five and then got EXTREMELY fucking lucky. That's no true GOAT. Enobaria's victories were always fair no matter how much people like to discard Kara."
I actually WATCHED the Odyssey now so here are more thoughts. SPOILERS OBVIOUSLY
TLDR: if Nolan wanted to adapt an epic about the horrors of war on the man's psychology HE SHOULD HAVE ADAPTED THE ILIAD
I GUESS SPOILERS AHEAD
Its opening day for Nolan's Odyssey so I guess again SPOILERS AHEAD because WHAT IS THIS STUPIDITY.
I CANNOT believe the silly little indie musical- that never claimed to be an accurate adaptation BTW- managed to adapt core parts of the original myth, while a multimillion dollar movie that claimed to be as accurate as possible ignored them entirely.
WHAT DO YOU MEAN THERE IS NO "NOBODY" SCENE. ITS THE WHOLE BASE FOR HIS HUBRIS RANT. The nobody scene sets up Odysseus as clever, you're supposed to be like "oh good he got away that was clever" and then "wait what are you doing WHY ARE YOU SO COCKY AND STUPID" and the take from this is "don't be cocky and think you're cleverer than the gods because now you're gonna get fucked."
Removing this scene entirely takes away a major part of Odysseus's character.
Apparently they also took away the part where Penelope outwits Odysseus with the bed lie to confirm his identity. But this is a Christopher Nolan movie so I expected the taking away of her core element of agency.
Omw back from a local production of the Guy who Didn't Like Musicals so here's some highlights I adored:
-Instead of "Godspell" the production Zoe and her friends were in was Anastasia, because this local ensemble put up Anastasia last summer.
-Hidgens. Just Hidgens. Hidgens asking the gang to sing We Don't talk about Bruno. Hidgens' sparkly vest tearoff. Hidgens' ensemble. Hidgens's stage presence.
-Charlotte's and Sam's mics cut off during Join Us and Die, they still killed it.
-Instead of an opera note, Charlotte did the Defying Gravity Cynthia riff before dying.
-Female McNamara, and her name was Heather. She had a yellow scrunchie that was changed to blue when infected.
-During America is Great again, Emma shoots McNamara to get her off Paul, McNamara dies as she sang the last part of the song, the ensemble troops+ Ted had a military honor guard for her. Silence after.
EDIT: I forgot/didn't realize this happens in the original show (I'm watching the remount and it just showed)
-Cup of Poisoned coffee had a verse section added like a reprise of the original roasted coffee.
-Mr Davidson captured the insane Jeff aura.
-The homeless man vouged during La Dee Dah Dah Day
The SOTR reaping day sneak peak...
"You're with me till the end, right Hay?"
"Till the end sweetheart"
Fuck off with that actually. No seriously fuck off with that Francis Lawrence and Suzanne Collins there better be a therapy bill stand outside of the movie theatre.
Can someone do a run of the new soldiers and seekers? I was getting stressed over moving stuff and was only half listening.
I know Thaisha is going solo cause Aabria is on maternity leave, and Wicanny+ Murray and Azune stay in the city so...
The Einfassen are SO interesting but my GOD i don't trust these beefy Germans
HUMAN SIZED THIMBLE? But like... are Thimbles wings GONE gone? Or can they just fold in and out at her request even at human size? She can shrink at request but like can she fly even in human size
"Teor got a 1" even in death the dice make sure to be in character
Hal's speech at the end with the song... I love it but my GOD HE'S SO DEAD-
travis was the only one to escape death-by-brennan in calamity & now teor has paid the price final destination style
Oh-
Damn.
I've been thinking again about the Dexter Sol Ansell roles and parallels between them, and the question "would Coriolanus have turned out the way he did if he had a Ser Duncan of his own?" Interests me.
In a way, Coriolanus HAD a kind, loving influence in his life to replace his elitist (dead) family, but Tigris helping him make light of the situation he found himself in, treating him and trying to teach him kindness did not help in the slightest when he still was surrounded every day with the same corrupted, power obsessed system. She too was molded in the Capitol's hierarchy, even with her kindness, and so that was not enough. So by the time Coriolanus actually leaves the Capitol for the great wild world he is imbued with the elitist, classist, dehumanising outlook of the Capitol.
It's not (only) Duncan's influence that "radicalised" I.e helped Egg see the world and the smallfolk around him as people with dreams and desires that deserved better. It was the taking him out of the environment where he *would've* become a Coriolanus type. The last chunk of The Hedge Knight/Season 1 of AKOT7K is about characters realising the importance of outside education and interaction would in a way save Egg from becoming Coriolanus.
Here's the part where you could argue "Coriolanus was always like that(tm). It's the whole point of Ballad." No, Ballad is about the slow trickling brainwashing fascism does to your brain, it's about the corruptive influence of your environment and how distancing yourself from humanity and prespective will shape your outlook, and how war will have a direct effect on that.
In a way, AKOT7K echoes the same themes: the brutal and influence lasting effects of war (although that's more S2 territory), and the inherent corruption that comes with power and seclusion. The GoT line about "Every time a Targaryen is born the gods flip a coin" (a line originally said by my BIGGEST ASOIAF OPP JAEHAERYS II BTW, FUCK YOU JAEHAERYS II) is overused and misses the point: the Targaryens did not fall because of some madness gene. The worst kings, the Dance, are all consequences of unchecked power and loss of touch caused by their position in the monarchy. The same volatile, corruptive environment that made Snow what he is (Although Ballad repacks that environment into a far more familiar, feasible setting to us.)
You can't answer that question without taking into account the outside world prespective (or lack there of) that shaped these two characters more than their relationships with this kind older sibling/parent figure.
I simply find it really interesting that you can take Dexter's two major roles as foils. Where the pressure of the inherent cyclical class struggle either makes you a Child Death Game enthusiast or the first Social reformist king of Westeros.
And you both are haunted by a 16 year old girl who would not be born for another 65 years lmao.
Thinking about Sun Bleached Flies X Teor/ Teorwick specifically
"But I always knew/that in the end no one was coming to save me/so I just prayed."
"If it's meant to be then it will be/well i met him there and told him I believe"
He had to get in one last jab.. goddammit Brennan.
One last convergence episode next week.... Hal is STILL not safe technically but I believe he can flee before the Creed comes.
Can Azune? Remains to be seen.
