“Does it make you feel good?” Amelia asked, genuinely curious of her step-sisters work, her enjoyment of it and everything involved. “That’s good, they should hold you all to the same standard, just don’t push yourself too much- you don’t want to end up with a serious injury.”

“I’m not really in a celebrating mood,” Gale said, the dark circles under his eyes would no doubt answer the question as to why. He was getting only enough to sleep to survive through the day but not enough to be in a good mood. Even the bag of sweets he’d treated himself to for his birthday wasn’t brightening his mood, “I’d appreciate it if you’d respect that,” He added, not wanting to hear a protest about how he should celebrate because it was his birthday.

Amelia stopped mid sentence, not wanting to overstep when the other clearly hadn’t been doing too well. “I’m sorry, I didn’t... notice.” She replied, “Are you okay? Do you want to talk about it?”

“Not a bad idea,” Caleb entertained with another laugh. “I took the day off actually,” he admitted. “My boss complained that I had holidays I wasn’t using so I’ve sprinkled a few throughout the next few weeks,” he added. “And you?”

“It’s funny how bosses will always complain that you have too much leave stocked up, but when you actually want to go on a holiday at the time of your choosing it’s suddenly a problem,” She commented, “How long did you take off?” Mia asked, purely out of curiosity. “It’s my day off, but still I’m working. Just can’t seem to escape the paperwork.”

A soft expression of fondness drifted over Lulu’s lips at the question and she nodded her head emphatically. “Entirely.” She admitted quietly. “It’s hard work and I end up with a lot of bruises and after practice most of the time all I want to do is sleep but I love every moment of it. It’s hard to believe I actually managed to make my dream come true.” For a little while there, she didn’t think she would get all this.

A large smile moved across Amelia’s face, she wanted to see the people that she loved succeed and was infinitely glad that done that, especially more knowing that Lulu enjoyed it. “I’m so glad- even if you come out of it with more bruises than you entered. They’re not working you too hard or anything like that, are they?” She asked, knowing the feeling of burnt out at work all too well.

“Do I still like it where?” Lulu questioned as she flicked through the magazine she’d picked up. “And it depends really. It’s pretty versatile. A nice skirt can do it sometimes or denim shorts if the weather is right, you know?” She gave a shrug and chuckled. “I mean, I’m normally a grab and throw on type of person but at some point I’ll wear it. No time soon if that’s what you’re asking.”

“At work- is it still everything you wished it would be?” Amelia asked, she had been making quite the effort lately to know Lulu and make up for the years of mistreatment. “You’re right! All it needs is a little something and it’ll be perfect.”

“No of course I don’t mind,” he assured her, moving to pull up another chair so they could both sit. “I stole your seat anyways, so it’s kind of you to let me stay here either way,” Caleb chuckled, moving to take the seat further from the electrical outlet.

“Maybe I should put my name on it next time,” She suggested with a laugh, Mia truly didn’t mind considering she had been gone for more than a few moments. “Are you on a break from work?”

“It feels like maybe they were going for one but then couldn’t decide and now it’s just a big old mess,” she theorized, flipping through some more pages. “I’ve had it for quite a while. I usually bleach the blonde to almost a silver or go pink. I’ve done purple once before but it faded pretty quickly. Do you think I should go for another color instead?” Alessandra wondered with a little smile. “Oh,” she turned around to look at the tattoo Amelia had selected and was showing off to her. “That actually suits you really nicely! You should go for it. Who knows, maybe you might even getting it permanently.”

“Purple sounds nice! Was it a darker one or kind of in the middle to pink?” Amelia asked the other, “Maybe you could do a mix of the two? Balayage style?” Mia suggested. “Ooh, maybe. At least I’ll be able to judge my Mum’s reaction to it beforehand,” She laughed, “Have you changed your mind on any of the designs or sticking with the dye?”

“If you’re sure,” he nodded his head after her reassurance. “Oh? No of course not, I wouldn’t have offered if I did,” Cyrus insisted, reaching to take the bracelet the woman seemed to be referring to. “This? Or maybe did you mean the one just next to it?”

“The pink one next to it- sorry. I should have been more specific!” She said as he reached. “Sometimes the height thing is a real curse, it’s pretty embarrassing trying to do groceries alone when you can’t reach the top shelves.” Mia spoke with a laugh.

“They probably think that if they scare the people who don’t agree with them off, the easier it’ll be to manipulate everyone else.” She considered. “How are you feeling about it all?”

“I didn’t say I was an auror yet, I said I’m going to be one in a matter of weeks. Bloody counting down the days at this point,” Felix said, frowning a little. He thought he was just as good at the job as any qualified auror, better even, but he knew he wouldn’t be treated the same as them until he earned the title. “I’m meeting Evelyn shortly so I’m not going to be alone, okay? Does that make you feel better?” He huffed a little, but was a little surprised at Mia’s reaction to his statement. “Dad wanted us to give our all to our jobs, to be good at them and put the work in. He wouldn’t be happy if I just left right now without trying to help. Us Hopkirks are better than that,” he said firmly.

“And even when you are qualified in a few weeks, you’re still going to be a baby. You still need to be safe.” Mia responded; whilst she was proud of her brother for reaching this milestone and achievement in his life she, like many older siblings, was constantly worried for his health and the now very real possibility of something happening to him whilst on the job. “Yes, that’s good. Thank you, so long as you two stay together.” Mia replied, a frown maintaining pride place on her features. She almost wanted to laugh at his comment about their dad, it couldn’t have been further from the truth. “I’m not saying don’t help, I’m saying think about it before you go running head first- you don’t need to be in danger yourself to help someone else. You can be a lot better than him, Felix.” Mia replied, trying her hardest to keep her head level in order to not spoil the mindset that had been so carefully crafted by their mother.

“No, no don’t even worry about it,” he assured her. “They can use patrol everywhere so I could be doing what I do here, just over there. It’ll be fine,” Frank said. “Let’s just move quickly, okay? And if we see anyone injured on the way you don’t mind helping me bring them over to the nearest healers tent, right?”

“I really appreciate it,” Mia replied, whilst she believed that she’d be okay navigating through the dangers herself to find her brother but Frank was probably in the right by insisting on coming with her considering everything that had recently occured. “Of course,” She said, not thinking twice about it as she walked with him with haste. Mia knew in the vaguest way that her brother was okay but easily there could be others worse off along the way. “I’ll help you with them too if we come across anyone, I wouldn’t leave you to help them alone.” She promised, even if it were his job to help the people he came across.

“Yeah that sounds like our best bet,” she nodded at Mia’s suggestion of their game plan. Vera moved forward towards the left with Mia. “Merlin, I dread to see what this place is going to look like once the fighting subsides…” she sighed as they passed a building with the display windows shattered, broken glass crunching underneath their shoes as they walked. “Building this back up is going to take a lot, even if we do have magic on our side.”

“Is it possible for it to end up being worse?” Amelia asked; somehow it didn’t feel as if anything could get much worse than what was in front of their eyes but Mia had very quickly learnt with everything that they had gone through that anything could get worse. “I think we can say for sure Hogsmeade won’t be the same for a while,” She agreed with a sigh, “Where would you even start?” She questioned, “Maybe some people from the ministry will come and help them.”

“You seem quiet,” MK pointed out as they lay in Mia’s bed just hanging out. “Anything on your mind specifically?”

“I can’t get the attacks out of my head,” Mia admitted, it seemed to be on everyone’s mind and Amelia would honestly be surprised if it wasn’t- it seemed to almost be scarred into their minds. “I know they’re just trying to make us scared but- what do they benefit from it?” She asked with a sigh, all Mia had done the last few days was putting herself into their minds for no particular reason at all.
