Ive seen this going around ever since ai art has started to become popular and it’s just really silly but I’m gonna say this. Vocaloid and other such voice synthesizers aren’t on the same level as ai artists imo. In contrast to an ai where you can enter a single prompt and it spits out a completed piece of art, vocaloid cannot produce a completed song or even sing all on its own, YOU have to do the leg work, it’s technically a musical instrument in that respect. I get that they’re both artificial and meant to “replace” a human, but vocaloid still needs human intervention, all it does is provide a voice, and an actual human person has to manipulate it and make a song for it to sing. Capisce?

more importantly, vocal synth voice banks (even the fancy "ai-powered" ones like the newer synthv ones) are still based on real recordings by professional singers that the company has hired and paid and gotten consent from, as opposed to the "ai art" models that just scrape whatever images they can get their hands on off the public internet and smash them together with no regard for attribution or licensing.
