The yearly festival had begun. Music played, young maidens danced, the king was getting drunk as usual. The only difference were the foreign guests. People from Africa to Asia swarmed what would have been your standard European party. A great party held by the king and queen, welcoming peace throughout the world.
Prince Alfred wasn’t as interested. It wasn’t that the party was boring. The problem was that the prince had to find a spouse by the end of this. His parents were growing old and he wanted to at least choose a bride before it was to late. But none of the lovely young ladies caught his attention.
Interrupting the loud guests, a horn blared. Why on earth would a guest arrive so late? The answer was the young man and his younger brother. Their names were announced.
“Kiku and Niko Honda, princes of the sun kingdom.”
No one could help but stare at them. Niko was slightly shorter, his hair a bit more untamed. His eyes scanned the audience for something. That’s when he spotted prince Alfred, who suddenly had an interest in them. Not them. Kiku.
The prince gazed in admiration at Kiku, his cheeks turning red. Niko nudged his brother and whispered something to him. Kiku looked up and his eyes locked with Alfred’s. His face turned as red as his shoes.
All Alfred could do was admire the prince. How his hair fell in front of his face. The way his white suit made him stand out against the colorful dresses and black suits.
Eventually, he just couldn’t wait any longer. Alfred stood and walked over to the prince. He tapped Kiku’s shoulder, and the prince spun around. Surprise gleamed in his eyes.
“Prince Alfred,” Kiku breathed in shock.
“Would you like to talk?” Alfred eagerly asked.
Alfred lead Kiku to the royal barn.
“Aren’t you a little late for a prince,” Alfred asked.
“It seems I was,” Kiku blushed.
Alfred leaned in to kiss him. But Kiku raised his hand so Alfreds lips landed on his palm. A playful smile danced across Kiku’s face.
“You’d be a bit naive to kiss someone you just met.”
“Then I guess I am,” Alfred lowered Kiku’s hand and pressed him against the wall, connecting their lips.
Kiku squeaked in surprise but didn’t deny him. He wrapped his arms around Alfred’s neck, pulling him closer. Alfred felt his heart doing summersaults in his chest.
Later on in the evening, the two princes walked hand in hand. They watched sword fights and dancing, playing games and ate sweets. Both were very tired. Kiku looked at the time, noting how late it was getting.
“I must return home soon.”
“Then I will write to you everyday.”
“And I will do the same to you.”
As their final goodbye, they kissed, keeping their promise forever, even in marriage
