I wrote this song as an homage to NY. The beauty, the chaos, the deep connection I felt from the very first time I visited through the precious years I lived, laughed, loved and lost there. One thing about it is you cant cling too tightly to your own plans or expectations- you gotta be ready to give in and just go with it because the city is alive, and she can break your heart and blow your mind in a day. But that’s when the real magic happens. The AC goes out and the play is cancelled after you waited outside in the street for an hour, you end up making friends out of strangers and before you know it the most incredible fireworks are going off right above you and you don’t even know why. Or the sky opens up on your walk home and it’s suddenly pouring buckets of rain and you run under an awning only to realize you’re now standing with an old friend you’ve been too busy to catch up with.

I still spend a lot of time there, and take long walks through Brooklyn with my headphones on, feeling my feelings and catching lyrics here and there. In February I was there doing that, looking for inspiration in the old familiar places and finishing up the last pieces of our album. I came around the corner and saw the sky and it took my breath away. Literally stopped me in my tracks. Bright red. As I moved closer to the edge of the water, I noticed all the people around had stopped to stare too. All of us in the middle of our own separate lives, suddenly connected through this surreal natural beauty that was too incredible not to stop and appreciate. I took the picture and watched it go all the way dark, and I wrote the moment that was given to us just as it happened. Thanks NYC. Love you forever!

I don’t normally post pictures of my food but Beth and I had the most incredible meal last night at MATTY MATHESON ‘s Prime Seafood Palace Everyone was so nice and the food was beyond. 10/10! I can’t stop thinking about the bread and butter! Thank you for the most delicious night of the tour!
