Changes

For the first time in decades I am making a significant life change just for me and nobody else. A run-in with renal cancer four years ago, my impending 60th birthday, the blossoming and flight of my offspring, along with my long-time solitariness have all served to focus my mind and give me the impetus to up sticks from my very comfortable but constrained existence in the rather lovely village I have lived in for 18 years and try something new.

So I’ve bought a beautiful cottage in north Wales and will fashion my life around that. Rather than moving somewhere to pursue career or person, I am moving for its own sake to be somewhere I know and love. I enjoy my work in academia, the mental stimulation, but its somewhat repetitive nature and its workload pressures will be no more. Mountains and sea will act as the only confining features now and serve to inspire and occupy, and a new life will emerge.

I can't describe my excitement and impatience...
