Bri + Phillip's Surprise Marriage Proposal Caught on Camera
Back in January, I text Phillip telling him that if he ever plans on proposing to Bri, which I hopes he does because I really like him, I would be more than happy to help him with the surprise. Without delay, he texts back saying he definitely is taking me up on my offer! I'm ecstatic, and we immediately start talking details. After tossing a few ideas back and forth, Phillip decides he wants to do it at Piedmont Park on the end of the dock. My role would be to wait in a concealed area and then when I see them, run into them by happenstance with my camera. Phillip would ask if I could take a photo of them on the dock, and I would happily oblige. Just as they get together for the photo, Phillip would get down on one knee, and I would catch the whole thing on camera!
After waiting through a few rainy days, the weather finally clears up, and Phillip tells me that it's go time. We plan to meet just before sunset at Piedmont Park that evening. By some crazy coincidence Bri calls me the same day asking if I could photograph her and Phillip at Piedmont Park since they don't have any current photos of themselves. I tell her that luckily I don't have any plans, and I would LOVE to photograph them! Taking advantage of this excuse, I go over to her house early so that I can paint her nails and make sure her makeup is perfect. At this point, I'm shocked that this plan is going so smoothly!
Finally all three of us head off to the park for their "couple's session." While Bri is happy as a clam to be taking photos with Philip, he is concentrating on acting normal and making sure to keep the box in his pants pocket hidden. We get to the lake and see that the dock is being occupied by an event and I can see Phillip's wheels turning. After a few warm up photos, I follow Phillip's lead, and we head up the hills into the trees. He quickly chooses a huge old tree that stands alone at the top of the hill. Pointedly, he asks me if I think this spot looks good, and I tell him it's perfect. Phillip tells Bri to close her eyes, then he gets down on one knee and tells her to open them. Her reaction is priceless, and I photograph every single second of it!
I've never witnessed a marriage proposal before, and I'm honored that Phillip allowed me to be there to capture this intimate moment. We both knew that these photos would mean the world to Bri, considering she's a full-time wedding photographer. Bri is my best friend, and I'm so overjoyed that her dreams of getting married to the love of her life are coming true. I know that these two were made for each other and will lead a beautiful life together. Congratulations you two; I love you both! -Amie
