featured works from Tara Donovan
Tara Donovanâs large-scale installations, sculptures, drawings, and prints utilize everyday objects to explore the transformative effects of accumulation and aggregation. By identifying and exploiting the usually overlooked physical properties of modest, mass-produced goods, Donovan creates ethereal works that challenge our perceptual habits and preconceptions. âIt is not like Iâm trying to simulate nature. Itâs more of a mimicking of the way of nature, the way things actually growâ the artist said.

Y'all need to look up what this dude did. He was too tired to drive on his way to a match so he let a black hitchiker drive for him, then when he got to the arena walked in with his arm around him to the boos of the crowd, which he decided to embrace and make worse by kissing the guy on the cheek. He then went whole hog into the persona hanging out in black neighborhoods, going to black bars, and getting arrested on petty charges then going to court after hiring a black lawyer paying his fine and then doing it all over again. Wrestling was not as popular and the viewing was segregated but the promoters were only selling about half capacity for the white section while the black section was sold out and people were still clamoring in to see him but they couldnât because of segregated arenas. The owners of the arenas and the promoters eventually decided that business is business and started slowly desegregating their theatres and every time this guy showed up they were selling out all their seats, to the point where this guy and one other held the record for attendance that held until the late 80âs/early90âs.

Telmo Mielâs âEncountersâ at Thinkspace Projects.
Currently on view at Thinkspace Projects in Los Angeles, California is artistic duo Telmo Mielâs exhibition entitled âEncounters.â
The duoâs murals are both surreal and realistically rendered, with a tremendous amount of detail and vibrant color. Able to work fairly seamlessly, their styles have combined to such an extent that theyâre able to execute multiple areas in tandem, exchanging places and completing each otherâs work.
With a respect for both visions, they found that âperspectiveâ is one of the most important & interesting aspects of art. The perspective of the maker compared to the viewer, the difference in intend, meaning and interpretation. Perspectives on concept, colors and composition and so forth. This idea of âmultiple viewing pointsâ and opinions is an ongoing discovery in their work.
They often execute their pieces on a monumental scale, creating huge architecturally sized spray-paint paintings on building façades. Combining multiple elements in a single composition, they layer references to the human and animal worlds to create complex creatures and fantastic scenarios. With positivity, humor and a touch of the romantic, their work is arresting and epic.
The exhibition will be on view until February 22nd, 2020.

Josie Morwayâs âWatershedâ at Thinkspace Projects.
Currently on view at Thinkspace Projects in Los Angeles, California in their project room is artist Josie Morwayâs solo exhibition, âWatershed.â
Morwayâs paintings are fragmented narratives, inspired by everyday words and phrases that bombard us â old signage, broken billboards, overheard conversations. Morway is of the opinion that omissions tell half the story.
Substituting animals for human characters in her visual narratives, she explores gestures, postures and expressions that are familiar and universal but at the same time ambiguous.
The exhibition will be on view until February 22nd, 2020.
